  • "Beautiful, peaceful cosy cottage."

Just what we hoped for when booking. Met all expectations. Situated in lovely quiet village. Didn't want to leave at end of our stay.

  • "The cottage is beautiful and delightfully situated alongside the beck."

Comfy bed but just a double sized bed which is detailed in the partoiculars but might not be for everyone but alas with very lumpy, hard and uncomfortable pillows. Lovely bathroom with nice hot shower. Kitchen has most bits and pieces you need for cooking - extractor fan not brilliant but you can open a window. Alas, the WIFI was not working when I stayed which was a nuisance as I was planning on working from the cottage. Mobile reception can be a bit hit and miss too so beware!

  • "Really nice little cottage in a beautiful location."

I would agree with a former reviewer about the size of the towels and also mention the pillows, which were rather lumpy and could be better quality! Having stayed in a considerable number of holiday cottages over the years and with people's expectations of higher standards, it is often the little things that make a difference. A bottle of wine is a nice touch but honestly feel that a small welcome pack would be better as not everybody drinks alcohol but a few basics and some milk would be lovely. Prices are increasing for holidaymakers and adding little touches is often much appreciated. The owner, Alan, was very pleasant and helpful and I would certainly return - just may bring my own pillows! I must also mention the wonderful pub in the village, The Blacksmith's Arms, where my cousins and I had a superb meal.

  • "Beautiful cottage in a quiet lovely place with sheep coming to visit ."

Friendly people and good local pubs for food .Quiet ,no traffic to speak of even in places like Helmsley where there are plenty of car parks .The owners were lovely and offered use of washing facilities but we chose not to spend our holiday washing ! Lots of interesting places to visit and we joined English Heritage as there were several places worth visiting like Whitby and Riveaulx abbeys.. Beckside is quite small but very comfortable and well equipped. We chose to eat out as we were on holiday .As it is small the only thing we found was that it was quite dark in the kitchen and bathroom but we would certainly go again .Also being picky ,although the towels dried well they were only quite small .Bath sheets would be preferable but that is only our choice not a criticism of the cottage .The owners were lovely.

Mr and Mrs Barker (the owners) were very helpful and helped us arrange our arrival without any difficulties. All in all Could not have been easier. We had booked a holiday with TUI which was cancelled at very short notice and we were able to book the accommodation with Sykes quickly and easily and probably had a much better, more relaxing and pleasant holiday than we would have had from our original TUI holiday

Centrally located at the edge of the moors for the best of North Yorkshire sight seeing. The independence of a self contained small home, and the charm of the outlook onto the beck flowing through willows and beneath a small bridge, makes for a delightful holiday.

The village of Lastingham is idyllic ,as is the surrounding area. It was lovely to get back at the end if our day out to sit outside with a drink listening to the water & all the birds ( be prepared to feed them ) .
