"Beautiful place"
-
"Chose cottage for location for visiting relatives for long weekend in March."
On arrival it was very cold due to heat settings but much better later, with exception of ground floor bedroom. Lovely welcome pack and absolutely everything we needed, all easy to find and of a v good standard. We were a party of 3 adults who were out visiting but could see lots of things for families to enjoy like games, puzzles etc Had no cause to contact owners and only minor criticism was some slight difficulty with the front door lock (reported on departure) Would most definitely book again.

"Lovely quite place for a stay away from it all, with the coast and Hull close by for days out."

-
"Great cottage, everything we needed, very spacious there was only two of us but ideal for families, very spacious we will probably return."
Lots of ground around the cottage for children to play.
-
"A very comfortable cottage, for us we would have liked a clock in the sitting room or kitchen and more choices of cups and chopping knives but by no means did this spoil our enjoyment of the property."
-
"Have stayed here quite a few times now."
We love it and it's very convenient for visiting relatives too. Loads of space and everything you could need. Welcome pack is a nice touch too.
-
"A party of four."
Everything went as expected. No problems at all. A good central position to visit the East Riding of Yorkshire. Spurn Point is a must.
-
"Lovely cottage, had everything we needed and more."
Would certainly book again.
-
"Very clean, inviting, very clutter free I like a spacious holiday home."
Outdoors was lovely, I absolutely love the fact that we were nowhere near anybody else. Definitely recommend this holiday cottage, lots of leaflets to look through and decide where you want to go to. Or just enjoy the peace and quiet.
-
"Very easy for key collection, friendly and approachable owners, nothing too complex."
Property was very inviting, well designed, ideal for people with mobility issues, All rooms were adequately furnished, Kitchen was nice size with sufficient seating for dining, living room ideal size with seating both ends of room, some for watching tv and some for reading.Good size garden, ideal for children to run about in,ideal place for exploring East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, Also only just over 1 hour from York. Would highly recommend a stay. Village is friendly with superb butchers and bakery and local shop which again can recommend. Also pub about 1 mile away. Would definitely stay again.
-
"Wonderful cottage for a touring base."
So spacious and comfortable. We didn’t have the best of weather but we knew we were coming back to a restful place.
-
"Lovely little cottage perfect for our needs, local to family."
Fully equipped and great space for all 5 of us to stay and host family get together for Christmas. Only down side with the cottage is now the beds, the mattresses are feeling worn and soft, 3 of us have come away aching after a few uncomfortable nights. Firmer and newer mattresses would make things perfect.
Thank you for your comments. We do replace the mattresses on an annual basis, in fact we have replaced most of them in the last six months but we do appreciate your feedback and will take it in on board. Property Owner

"Hubby & I , & daughter & hubby ,(,ages 45 to 74) had super holiday at Owl cottage."
We loved the property inside & out, very spacious, everything we. needed & more was provided. We liked the area where the cottage was situated & found lots of lovely places to visit. We went to Spurn Point, Withernsea, Hornsea( visiting award winning chippy) also Bempton Cliffs RSPB, Bridlington ,Filey & Beverley. ,& The Humber Bridge. We had a brilliant holiday, some meals cooked in cottage ,& other meals eaten out including sitting out by table in garden in sunshine with drinks including the wine. Very comfy indoors too playing games & watching good sized TV occasionally. Comfortable bedrooms & lounge. Bathroom ,,& kitchen facilities excellent too. Super hols.. If come to East Yorkshire again would love to stay at Owl Cottage again. Highly recommended!!!
-
"The cottage was very comfortable and easily accommodated 4 adults and our two grandchildren, 7yrs and 5 yrs."
although the weather was on the chilly side we still visited Withernsea, Hornsea, Beverley Bridlington and Spurn point. The welcome pack and newspapers was a very nice touch and the grandchildren enjoyed the open space and toy cupboard. Will visit again.
-
"Owl cottage is spacious both inside and outside surrounded by fields, set back off the road."
A well looked after place with a welcoming note and clear instructions should you need to contact the owners and for Wi-Fi. Definitely recommend.
-
"Very helpful owners and they have thought of everything - really make you feel welcome."
Will definitely book again.
-
"Lovely cottage with some nice welcome touches provided by the owner."
A problem with the central heating was quickly resolved and the cottage soon got toasty warm. There is a lot of space and I can imagine it would be excellent for families with its outdoor play area. The location is quite remote so its not practical to walk to any shops/pubs but there are delivery services from local restaurants.
-
"Absolutely wonderful cottage, had more than everything you need to be a fully functional house."
The owners really did think of everything and left a lovely welcome card and bits.
-
"Lovely cottage, stayed there last Oct as well."
Will definitely use Owl Cottage again.
-
"Had a fantastic short break at the beginning of September along with some fine and hot weather ."
Owl cottage is a beautiful well equipped and spacious modern cottage situated in its own grounds, Its an ideal base to explore the surrounding area. Spurn point is well worth a visit as are the cliffs at Bempton. Looking forward to booking again in the future .
-
"Enjoyed our stay."
Plenty of space in all rooms and outside. Well equipped kitchen. Tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and local papers on arrival. Good base for visiting the coast. Have already booked to come back next year.
-
"The property was very spacious and very comfortable."
We had one very small issue which was dealt with on the same day as reporting it. We enjoyed every minute of being here. Thank you for making our holiday that bit more special.
-
"This is our third time at this outstanding cottage, so relaxing great facilities, love the area, although from South Wales we feel so at home in this cottage and area, love location handy for so much to see and do, always made to feel so welcome, booking again next year, can't wait, thankyou so much."

"Was delighted with the cottage and had a wonderful week taking our 88 year old mother to lots of east coast resorts."
Enjoyed afternoon tea at nearby sandhill garden centre. Would definitely return to Owl Cottage. Thank you for the milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and news papers, that was a lovely gesture.
-
"The property was in a great location and very well equipped."
The little extras like tea, coffee, milk and even a newspaper were very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning in the future. We feel the property would benefit from outside lights.
-
"Shame about the road!"
So noisy. Traffic started around 6am, in addition to cars, lots of heavy lorries and tractors. Seems to be used as a race track! Not a lot you can do apart from making potential guests aware. Also a little surprised that TV was not connected to internet. Owners very helpful when we lost electricity whilst cooking.
-
"The road is quite busy and therefore noisy particularly if windows are open."
There is a fairly constant flow of vehicles including lorries and tractors. This could be an issue for some or of interest to others.Lovely seating area with good furniture for sitting and traffic watching.
-
"Owl cottage is a very comfortable cottage."
Nice furniture in all rooms. Lovely setting
-
"Property was great, lots of space outside and the kids loved the rabbits in the garden, good location for the coast and hull, lots of restaurants and pubs within a short drive."
only issue was the beds, all three were uncomfortable, we had to use the outdoor furniture cushions under the sheets to be able to sleep in the bed, please replace the mattresses with decent ones and would definitely return
-
"Owl Cottage was home from home we enjoyed our stay there extremely."
Mr Robson allowed us to enjoy our holiday without intervention which was really nice. The cottage was very well equipped and clean throughout, being situated where it is allows for a very peaceful and tranquil stay.
-
"2nd trip to Owl cottage we love this cottage and have booked it again next year"
-
"Home from home everything you need is there we had a lovely relaxing holiday at Owl Cottage."
One highlight was been able to sit outside of an evening using there patio set enjoying the warm nights. Nothing was to difficult for the owners any problem we had they were at the end of the phone or came to the cottage. Thank you Mr & Mrs Robson for a great holiday in your cottage.
-
"We have staying at owl cottage 5 times and never been disappointed, it very relaxing the owners are very helpful."
Once again we have had a really great holiday thank you so much .
-
"This cottage exceeded all expectations!"
It is an absolutely wonderful place and i couldn't recommend it enough to people. It is so spacious and in an amazing location. This isn't to mention the great facilities the owners provided, there was an abundance of cooking supplies, towels provided as well as blankets and bedding. Overall it was an amazing week and would definitely come back again!
-
"We had a fantastic holiday, the cottage is so spacious and very well equipped, the owners provided everything from bin bags to dishwasher tablets."
Complimentary tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were presented to us when we arrived. A deckchair for the beach was even on offer. There are books, board games and jigsaws provided. The owners were very quick to help when we had a minor snag with the WiFi. The property is in a great location for exploring, we had a unimog safari of spurn point, several trips to the beach and a visit to the grounds of Burton Constable. An excellent holiday after lockdown 3, highly recommend.
-
"Wide open spaces."
Great feeling of Freedom.
-
"Lovely holiday 'cottage'."
Large inside and out with excellent facilities. Nicely positioned in rural area off fairly busy road, which isn't a problem. The kitchen could do with more storage cabinets and a new hob, existing one works ok but it's difficult to understand the controls! If I was being picky, the double bed in the downstairs bedroom could do with a new mattress - not the most comfortable. Would highly recommend this property.
-
"We had a lovely week at Owl Cottage."
It is very spacious and comfortable with a very large garden which my 2 year old grandson loved. He also loved the huge windows which gave him great views of the tractors going by. We are nature lovers who enjoy walking and found lots of good places to walk close by. Spurn Point is definitely worth a visit with a lovey beach and great views. There were swallows nesting in the open garage which we really enjoyed watching flying in and out whilst sat outside. Sadly didn't see any owls though. The cottage had most things we needed apart from a bread knife and the only large cutting knife had the tip missing but theses are only minor niggles. We would definitely visit again and recommend to family and friends.
-
"Owl cottage was lovely exceeded our expectations it was relaxing and was set in a beautiful location, ideal for sitting outside with a cuppa or beer/wine!"
!,at dusk one night also saw the owl!!, due to Covid was unable to do all we planned but the cottage was great for just chilling reading and Mrs B's knitting, managed to go to Withernsea for a day trip also a day in Hull shopping and an evening walk in Scarborough with a fish supper, will be booking again next year, can't wait to return!!...
-
"Best holiday ever Great location kids and us enjoyed it a lot"
-
"An excellent central position for trips to the coast and Burton Constable is well worth the visit."
-
"Everything you could wish for and more made us feel at home ,we were so relaxed and stress free"
-
"Stayed for weekend for family event: UPSIDE Nice cottage, clean, spacious and toys."
Staff and owner were good. DOWNSIDE Failed to get pin to get in - possible removed by spam filter. Staff worked hard and resolved quickly RECOMMENDATIONS Yes I would recommend / stay again Look out for the email with the access information and call if you don’t have it!
-
"I think the posting should stipulate that the cottage is near a main road so there is some traffic noise."
Lack of toilet roll holders in both bathrooms. The mattress downstairs was not very comfy and resulted in a lack of sleep for my wife for the first few nights. Perhaps they need changing in both bedrooms? playing musical beds was fun!
-
"Lovely, well kept, well equipped cottage with ample living space, outdoor space and parking off-road."
Fantastic family base for exploring.
-
"This was the best cottage we have ever rented."
It is modern, extremely clean and very well equipped. Was also very easy to find and had lots of extra things we didn't expect. Lots of information on local attractions and places to eat. Would definitely go there again if in that area.
-
"Excellent property - Lack of Wifi was expected - but missed its great use when on holiday,"
-
"The location for us was ideal, as we have family in Hedon."
It gives easy access to Beverly, (market days Wednesday and Saturday), and Hull, (check out The Deep and the museums). We were able to have an extended family bbq afternoon with 11 people because of the ample space, lots of crockery etc. an excellent kitchen, a big bbq and outside furniture for all of us. It has space for the children to run around and play football, although there was fun retrieving the ball from the ditch several times! Owl cottage is off the road; I read a comment about the traffic, but we found no problem with noise. Yes, when you are sat outside you can hear everything, but other than short commuter times, this was the occasional tractor and empty buses. The accommodation is disabled friendly but not built for the disabled, (it doesn’t claim to be either), but if you make the owners aware they will provide a seat for the downstairs wet room shower, (which by the way, was excellent), and they provide a movable suction grip, which can be used to help the infirm in the bathroom. There are one or two minor things able bodied people don’t always see, but I have pointed them out to the owners. If you have anyone partially sighted the three small steps for the area outside the back door can be difficult to distinguish. However, don’t let this put you off. My parents are 88 & 82 and they loved the place and found it very friendly for the unsure on foot. My severely autistic nephew loved the freedom of the paddock to kick his ball around, and the two resident adults and five family members who visited at various times all enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and being able to sit out and watch the buzzards and kites.

"This is the first time we have booked with Sykes Cottages, this was a last minute booking in an area we have visited many times before (most recently May 18) the accommodation was very clean and well presented."
We booked the accommodation for the Mother in Laws 73rd Birthday. There was those little extras that the owner had provided that were really appreciated, the welcome pack, the greetings card welcoming the group, a selection of reusable bags for life to do any shopping with and the local paper, which we have never had anywhere else before. We even had a visit from an owl trust volunteer to check the owl box in the barn,(which we did not mind) an owl was spotted several times throughout our stay flying around the property. We can't wait to get back to the area.
-
"Unfortunately due to us both contracting a Virus, we were unable to get to the Owl Cottage for our arranged holiday."
We have however spent a holiday at Owl Cottage before, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Perhaps we will try again next year.
-
"We think this is our 5th visit and it is still great."
Only criticism is size of freezer, still too small for a property that sleeps 6. Have already booked for September.
-
"The cottage was spotlessly clean warm and comfortable."
It catered for 6 people ranging in age from 8 months to 65 years. The owners were very welcoming with a welcome card and a selection of teas, coffees, cookies etc. waiting for us on arrival. We would definitely go back to Owl Cottage again.
-
"Owls cottage was amazing was like going home from home, really clean and so big would recommend anyone to go there"
-
"Fantastic property excellent value for money."
Close to Hull attractions and also coastal beaches.
-
"The cottage was very well presented."
Plenty of wild life to entertain us. Ideal for visiting friend who, live in Bilton. Close to Hull, also the coast and country side. Will be recommending Owl Cottage to friends and family.
-
"This was the second time we had been to this cottage and we will hopefully go again in the future."
-
"There was an unexpected pleasure in finding owls and swallows nesting in the barn."
The one downside was the noise from the adjacent minor road from about 5am, we were surprised at the volume of traffic using the road.
-
"Beautiful cottage which was a delight to return to each evening."
Made extra special by the barn owls nesting in the open sided garage at the rear of the property.
-
"Perfect cottage, lovely location views of farms and fields with plenty of space for the children to run"
-
"This is our 3rd visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it again."
The cottage is lovely and the owners are very helpful, but not intruding. We are already thinking about our next visit.
