"My daughter and myself have just had an amazing week at Wheelhouse cottage."
The cottage was lovely and cosy and had everything we needed. The rooms were bright and airy with a lovely view of the courtyard. It is in an ideal location to visit most of the attractions in the area. There was a plentiful supply of logs/coal for the fire, which was great to come back to after a day of adventures. On arrival there was 6 fresh eggs and more if we had wanted them, we made pancakes and scrambled eggs. We would definitely recommend Wheelhouse cottage and can't wait to go back again.
"Fabulous cottage, lovely open plan kitchen and living area which had everything we needed and was very comfortable."
Three double bedrooms, all ground floor, ideal for those in our party who couldn’t manage steps. We had a lovely weekend break, thank you!
"Unfortunately my mum passed away on the 3rd day of our stay."
The owner Sharon Steel was absolutely brilliant. She waited and supported me and my mum whilst waiting for thr ambulance to arrive. She then stayed with me at middlesborough hospital all night as I was away from home. What a w wonderful lady and human being. I couldn't have done it without her, now a friend for life
"Spare binbags, soap in soap dispenser These are only minor niggles as far as we are concerned the property was excellent for us and our needs the owners were absolutely fantastic and I am sure if we had of mentioned these 2 issues they would of sorted them."
"We really enjoyed our stay at Wheelhouse Cottage and would have no hesitation in returning or recommending to family and friends."
The cottage is spacious, comfortable and in a great location. The owners were friendly and welcoming, and close by should we have needed anything - although the cottage is so well-equipped, we had everything we needed while we were there . The welcome treats on arrival were much appreciated, and the Christmas decorations were a lovely extra touch. Thank you for a great stay, we hope to visit again in the future.
"Wheelhouse Cottage was home from home with welcome extras like a log burner and fresh flowers, fresh eggs, wine and milk upon arrival."
Lovely and clean and although spacious it was very light and airy but cozy too. Loved the latch doors and ceiling beams. Lovely hosts that were there if needed. Perfect location for exploring in and around the area. Couldn’t fault it.
"Excellent property, good access to all places."
Host was lovely. Just perfect a stay
"Had a four night stay here and really could have stayed longer."
A really comfortable, cozy cottage with everything you could need. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. Thirsk is a 2 minute drive away with plenty of restaurants and takeaways. There is a pub in the village but it was booked up when we enquired about an evening meal. Sharon is a lovely host and the bottle of wine and fresh eggs were a welcome touch. Some holiday homes are just that and some make you think ‘I could quite happily live here’ and this was definitely one of the latter. Not sure when we will be returning to Yorkshire but I know we will be looking to stay at Wheelhouse Cottage when we do.
"Definitely a little bit of luxury for us ."
Long awaited rest x
"We had a wonderful time - another superb Sykes cottage."
Very clean and comfortable and such a kind, helpful owner. Gave us lots of tips of where to visit for meals etc. Thank you so much once again. A smashing area
"We were extremely impressed with this beautiful cottage."
It was spacious, clean, comfortable and had everything we might need during our stay. We will certainly recommend this cottage to our friends and family.
"A really nice cottage to stay in and a nice welcome present from the owner."
A good base for exploring coastal towns and local villages with Thirsk being a manageable walk. We had one issue which the owner took care of, a second issue with early morning traffic noise which we believed to be due to local road closures and finally if we were a larger party only one bathroom/toilet would be have to be considered. Overall for the two of us a really well appointed property with very pleasant owners that made us feel welcome
"The owner Sharon was a lovely lady, she made us feel extremely welcome, we stayed the weekend before Christmas and she had decorated the cottage beautifully, we had one tiny problem and it was delt with very quickly, we wouldn't hesitate to go back to stay in her wonderful cottage again, we had an amazing, relaxing time, just what we needed as a family before a busy christmas."
Good location, easy to find. Well equipped and comfortable with unexpected bonus of fresh farm eggs, milk, tea, coffee and wine provided. Excellent communication with our host, who is friendly and accommodating. Logs are provided for the fire but it's warm enough not to use it. Close to York, Harrogate and Nidderdale on a quiet road. Comfy beds with warm bedding and plenty of towels. We stayed 2 weeks before Christmas and the cotta when we arrived and the cottage was decorated with a tree and garlands; cosy and festive! Nothing negative to say, thank you for having us, we'll come again!
"Stunning accommodation, absolutely lovely location and all necessary information was provided."
Easy to find and a lovely walk to the Crown and Anchor for sunday lunch. A very comfortable stay thankyou so much
"Wheelhouse cottage is such fabulous, cosy cottage, very well equipped, we couldn’t have ask for more!"
Thirsk is about a five minute drive away and is a lovely busy market town with lovely little shops to explore. We definitely would like to go back, maybe in the spring .
"Wheelhouse cottage is definitely home away from home."
We settled in immediately and wanted for nothing, it is fully equipped for your stay. Well situated, we visited Harrogate, Ripon, York and Thirsk. Thirsk is great for your 'local' amenities, with supermarkets, petrol station and 'local' businesses just five minutes away. Sharon and Andrew are great hosts, present but not intrusive and very approachable. The fresh eggs were a bonus, thank you!
"Lovely cottage, very light and airy, comfy beds and a lovely patio with garden furniture which was perfect for relaxing in after our days out."
Perfect central location for visiting Thirsk, Skipton, Harrogate, Whitby and York. Fresh eggs every day was a bonus. Would just have liked a second toilet!

Lovely accommodation and host. The area is fantastic and a good base for exploring the area. Host was extremely welcoming and the cottage is comfortable and well stocked with everything you might need for a self-catering stay. I would recommend to my friends.

"A great holiday home, very comfortable."
The beds were surprisingly comfy and we all slept really well (at first sight beds seem hard). Good supply of everything you need for cooking, eating and drinking. Lovely welcome pack, and lovely owner. Mid Oct so couldn’t take of advantage of private outdoor space, but would like to go back next year

"Beautiful cottage ,spacious clean and well looked after."
"We had a lovely Christmas week in our little cottage in Yorkshire."
We never met our host but the cottage was exactly as described, including having full Christmas decorations which was a lovely touch. It was pristine and very easy to keep it that way, as it managed to be homely and well set up without being at all cluttered. The kitchen had all the equipment needed for us to cook up quite an elaborate Christmas feast. We had a lovely time and would gladly return.
"It's a beautiful, well equipped property in an ideal location for Yorkshire Moor and Dales."
Loved the small touches like fresh eggs and Sharon was very attentive and helpful. Could do with another loo or bathroom but we managed.
"For us it was it was a very good location; delighted to have a supermarket just 5 minutes away; Sowerby is a lovely little town; we loved the nearby Dales; and Wheelhouse Cottage was a cosy 'home' to return to each day."
In a nutshell we liked it.
"Everything we needed was present in the cottage, we particularly enjoyed the free range eggs"
"A great place in a great location to explore the area."
The property demonstrates the high standards of the owners along with the welcome gifts on arrival. The layout of the accommodation was ideal for our party of six including children with lots of space for all. We will definitely be visiting again.
"We found the Wheel House very comfortable and cosy, the kitchen was well equipped with useful crockery and cooking utensils, and good sized fridge/freezer."
Very friendly owners very accommodating. Couldn't have asked for more great value for money..
"Brilliant holiday, fab cottage."
"Really lovely cottage, the photographs accurately represented the property which was great."
Sharon the owner was very friendly and welcoming, we all had a fab stay and would return.
"Amazing cottage and the service from the owners and Sykes was also outstanding."
We all enjoyed our stay. Thankyou very much
"The cottage was much bigger than expected and very well equipped."
We rented over Xmas and the place had been fabulously decorated. Sharon and Andrew, the owners could not have been more friendly or helpful. We are ven thinking of going back next Xmas!
"Exceeded expectations, really enjoyed the stay and the fresh eggs delivered daily were amazing!"
"A very comfortable and clean cottage."
We were only two but if 6 people were there I think another bathroom or an en-suite would be a welcome addition. Other than finding our way round the hot water system it was a very enjoyable stay.
"The cottage was beautiful, it had everything we needed and the beds were extremely comfortable."
The log fire was perfect for late evening relaxing. The enclosed courtyard was excellent for the grandchildren to run around in and well furnished. The location was ideal for a choice of visitor attractions; we visited Fountain Abbey and Monk Park Farm and thoroughly enjoyed both. We ate out at the Vale of York and the food was delicious.
Really lovely owners, kind welcoming and helpful!
"Good location, had good weather, nice touches left for guests, wine, milk, chocs, eggs,"
Great location. Lovely welcome pack. Our 2nd visit, hopefully will return. Down side only one toilet and phone signal very poor.
"Wheelhouse Cottage is lovely!"
Felt very much at home during our stay. My friends and I had a great weekend celebrating one of our birthdays. I would definitely book this cottage again and would recommend to anyone wanting a nice weekend away.
"A wonderful, easy to live in, clean cottage."
We were delighted. My husband has MS and has difficulty walking. My 90 year old stepmother also has mobility problems (uses a walker) and the cottage accommodated their needs well. The only - one - drawback was just having one bathroom and toilet but we managed.
"A lovely clean roomy cottage which would benefit from an extra or en suite bathroom."
