"Great cottage, nice and clean."
Problem which arose with property fixed really quickly by owner. Children really enjoyed waving at historic trains just outside the cottage!
"Another over hyped and overpriced Sykes Cottage."
Positioned in an unloved looking close the only plus was a pleasant rear aspect overlooking the river, nice to see the ducks and trains although the ducks made a filthy mess due to the fencing being very poor. The accommodation was clean and adequate although the lounge area was very spartan with an old and very uncomfortable settee certainly not relaxing at all. This cottage is far from being an idyllic retreat and grossly overpriced at near £1000.
"We have stayed at this location for at least 10 years now & it has always been a home from home."
Conveniently situated for walks into Whitby or regular local buses for the less energetic.
"Excellent property and location."
We felt the fridge was on the small size, very low to gain access. Perhaps replace the washing machine for a bigger fridge. We found the property owner extremely helpful.
"This was our 2nd stay at Eskview cottage, really good location overlooking the river Esk and the railway."
We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the evening. Good flat 1.5 mile walk into Whitby, we used the busses to go up and down the coast. During our stay the local pub wasn't serving food in the evening, this changed on our last night. The only down side was the creaking floorboards upstairs but this didn't affect our week away. We really enjoyed the area and will probably return.
"We had a lovely stay at Esk View."
Comfortable beds with good linen and a lovely hot shower over bath. The kitchen was well equipped but I would rather have had a dish washer than a washing machine which we didn't need. Unfortunately the previous occupier was not too thorough with the washing up, so I wasn't happy to have to clean things before using them. The only real disappointment was the extremely tiny fridge. It was too small which meant I had to shop more or less on a daily basis, not what I wanted to do on holiday. Other than that, a great location with a pleasant walk into Whitby via a cinder path next to the railway line at Ruswarp.
"Sofa uncomfortable Creaking floor upstairs Fridge inconvenient"
"Another lovely stay in another lovely cottage."
Great company to deal with. Thank you
"Well equipped, cosy and comfortable cottage."
Well placed for visiting this are of the coast. Enjoyed feeling the ducks and spotting local wildlife. Would like to visit again when weather is warmer so we could take advantage of outside space and facilities.
"Lovely property, clean, well positioned to explore."
Everything you needed to enjoy a cozy stay with wonderful view of the river esk and its wildlife.
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Eskview cottage."
It was absolutely ideal for what we were after, a short pre-Christmas break for two adults, and we hope to visit again when the weather is warmer.
"Lovely stay with fantastic outlook beside the River , and the added bonus of the Steam train passing !"
brilliant stay. Couple of points, It would benefit with a half Freezer to use ,instead of tiny fridge compartment, and also the Sofa seats were so worn flat, and low down they became uncomfortable after a bit and difficult to get up from . Bathroom door needs attention , as very noisy to close and try to lock , ok in the day , but a pain in the middle of the night if your trying not to disturb others.

The cottage was really comfortable and clean It was well equipped and in a great location So good to have a private parking place We have visited four times and will be returning next year
"Everything we needed to enjoy our holiday was there at the cottage."
Particularly enjoyed the decking overhanging the river during the fabulous weather. A lovely village situation with so many places easy to reach from our base. Great riverside tearoom only minutes walk away.
"This is our umpteenth stay at this location we go back year after year"
"Great location, easy flat walk into Whitby."
Patio overlooking river, good for watching ducks. You can also see steam trains passing. Only downside of patio is a bit of road noise but this didn't spoil my enjoyment. Good off road parking for two cars. The only slight negative is the sitting room seating which is a massive corner couch which neither my partner or I found comfortable and there was no alternative. On the whole a very well set up holiday cottage for a couple or a small family.
"Eskview cottage is in an ideal location for visiting Whitby and the surrounding area."
The cottage was lovely and clean and comfortable with all the amenities that are needed. Great patio area with seating and lighting that overlooks the river and railway line. There is a café in the village overlooking the river, great place for a snack or light meal, also serves limited alcoholic drinks. Found a footpath into Whitby along the side of the railway line, its a flat walk that takes about 20 mins. Happy to recommend a stay at the property, added bonus of private parking, which is rare in Whitby.
"Very warm and comfortable cottage with good parking."
We loved the new kitchen and the new bedlinen. To make the kitchen even better, we suggest some cups and saucers, a sieve, and a good sized kitchen knife. Sadly the settee in the sitting room is very ugly and uncomfortable especially if you have a bad back. Why not replace it with smaller settees, put the dining table in the sitting room and that would leave room for a dish washer in the kitchen.
"Lovely, clean cottage."
Outside area exceptional for sitting out and watching the river wildlife, activity and passing steam trains. Hope to return.
"We have been here several times and still love it."
It’s a nice walk to Whitby , and a nice pub round the corner. The house is a lovely warm little house with always something happening on the river and on the rail bridge over the river that is directly out the back door
"Disappointed that table and chairs have been removed from outside the property at the back."
Used to be very handy to sit at for removing dirty boots after walking and to sit and have a coffee, without having to remove covers from decking furniture.
"Fantastically clean and well equiped cottage ."
Lovely outside sitting area in a great location . Couldnt fault it and would definately go again and recommend to anyone.
"What happened to the table and chairs that used to stand outside the back door."
? Ideal for having breakfast outdoors.
"Perfect cottage-clean,cosy and easy to suss out."
The owners should be proud of themselves for achieving such an idilic holiday home.
"Lovely location next to the river very quite and peaceful excepted when a steam train went by, this was great."
"Lovely place to stay - there is a train station just a very short walk away that takes you into whitby - only a 6 min ride."
The steam train passes by so you can watch it. All good. Lots of ducks around on the river to watch. The house is very comfortable and well set up For visitors. Thank you for letting us share it with our grandchildren.
"We had such a lovely stay, the cottage was perfectly clean and comfortable and had everything we needed."
The deck at the back over the river is great, we really enjoyed eating outside with the ducks and trains to watch. It's so useful being able to park right next to the house for loading/unloading kids straight into the garden, and there are so many places/activities close by. We'll definitely be back!
"Cottage was very good with a couple of exceptions."
The patio furniture was NOT suitable. It was uncomfortable and impractical.. Toaster only did one side. Not a lot else wrong. The pub was close by and served food. (A better pub was a short drive away, The STABLES at cross butts.) Furniture was comfy. Bed was good. Kitchen was well equipped, (except the toaster) Great fun feeding the ducks. Cottage is centrally located for nice drives out.
"The holiday cottage was excellent very clean and comportable."
Looking out onto the river esk and seeing the trains was very nice.A good local pub with nice meals a brilliant walk into whitby. So much to see and do although some places did not reopen till 1st march. A super relaxing break of 2 weeks would highly recommend.
"Our second visit here, we love the setting and the house is just right."
No problem with parking in Whitby as the bus ride is perfect . The walk down the side of the railway line and river is lovely. Will definitely book here again. One drawback is the very noisy floor boards which can’t be avoided in the middle of the night.
"This is our second time to this cottage and it was just as good as we remembered it, clean cosy and very welcoming."
There was milk in the fridge and some lovely biscuits (thank you). We love the view over the river Esk and having the ducks arrive on your doorstep each morning was brilliant for our 4 year old daughter. The only negative is the creaky floorboards on the landing/bathroom but this is a very small price to pay for a fantastic holiday. We hope to be back next year:-)
"A nice cottage with an outstanding view."
The daily passage of steam powered trains was very nostalgic especially as they passed within yards of the kitchen window. Having stayed in several cottages we found that a comment book for visitors was useful. Desirable information such as good places to eat, interesting places to visit and nice walks were passed on. However, this is the first time this was not available and although we found our way around such information would have been appreciated on first arriving. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this cottage.
"This was the most user friendly cottage we have booked, easy access, ample parking, as soon as we walked in we knew it would be fine and you don't always feel that."
The lounge was extremely comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped, we had a great week with no problems at all. Very well done, no clutter but had a friendly feel. We would definitely go back.
"Well pleased with the cottage just one thing creaking floorboards"
"Fantastic holiday home, only thing missing was cleaning stuff."
The house was spotless, but I personally like to leave a place as I found it. I purchased cleaners so that I could do that.
"We have stayed in this cottage previously so we knew what to expect."
It is in a lovely location and we would visit the same again.
"The upstairs floor creaks very loudly to the extent that anyone going to the toilet in the middle of the night has the whole household awake."
"Beautiful location and very clean, well equipped, lovely, tastefully furnished cottage with a lot of thoughtful extras like roses on the table, milk in the fridge and biscuits."
Very friendly neighbours and 2 minutes from the bus stop if you don't want to take the car into Whitby, though you can catch the train or easily walk in alongside the railway line. There is a lot of wildlife to watch as you relax with your glass of wine on the decking and stones to sit on to cool your feet in the river. The only niggle is extraordinarily squeaky floorboards which are impossible to sidestep, but the rest of the cottage makes up for this small deficiency. Would definitely recommend.
"Oh yes. please ask the owner to fix the creaky floor boards."
"Fantastic holiday home - well equipped with a gem of an outside area - will be back."
"The cottage was nice and comfortable with nice views of river and steam trains."
It would have been better if the road bridge was mentioned as it was very busy with traffic early every morning.
"The location was ideal, our little ones loved that they were able to see the steam train everyday and that they got to feed the ducks."
The cottage itself was fabulous, it was clean, tidy and all the essentials were to hand. Its a real hidden gem and we will be returning.
"What a lovely base for our mini break, took our twin boys aged 6 and it was perfect, especially the steam train going past."
everything you need in the house and very clean, lovely decorated throughout was really home from home.
"The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped."
It is situated within walking distance of Whitby and a short drive from several attractions.
"Beautiful little cottage right next to the river."
Amazing views. Location is perfect only 5 minutes drive to Whitby center( £7 in a taxi ) Floors a bit noisy but it’s the cutest little cottage I’ve been too. Would definitely book again soon!
"One drawback, throughout it has extremely noisy floors."
The boards need firmly screwing down.
