  • "The flat was excellent with good facilities and very close to the heart of Whitby."

However, I have to leave a one-star rating for 'how do you rate your stay' as the benefit of being in an area of Whitby close to the center but with free and unrestricted parking has been more than offset by the cost that I now have to fix the damage done to my car as it was badly 'keyed' on the last night across the bonnet and down one side. Shame really, as it's a nice flat but let down by the location.

Some items were showing signs of age such as rusty heated towel rail and basin & bath plugs. Cutlery and crockery was something of a mismatched collection. Towels were on the small size but clean and well presented. In summary, clean, well equipped and ideal for what we wanted. The impression one got was a well founded flat but a work in progress.

Just a few things to mention. A light is needed to be able to read the key pad outside the front door. The front door lock is hard to open with the key. It look about five minutes every time. A door lock on the bathroom would be great. It looks like there is or has been some damp on either side of the window in the main bedroom which needs addressing. The flat was lovely and clean and had everything we needed for our holiday will definitely be going again. Many thanks too for addressing the shower door leaking and giving us more channels to watch on tv. Couldn’t connect to your Wi-Fi though.

Beds very comfortable and lovely bathroom. We had no hot water or central heating when arrived was advised to turn boiler off then on but that didn't work my partner who's a civil engineer noticed the pressure was low so he rectified the problem. Parking on the street can be a problem at times but would recommend the property we enjoyed our stay.

One thing I think could improve it would be to provide Wi-Fi. I realise we were on holiday but to be able to look up activities, maps and walks in the area is still very useful. The sofa is very low to the ground and for older residents this presents a problem getting out of it.

The flat was clean and everything was there for our holiday. I would suggest changing the seal on the shower door as this was not watertight and leaked through to the floor. Which had to be cleaned up after every use. I would have liked to be able to watch the sky tv not just free view and have Wi-Fi would have been amazing . We did have a great stay and will be going back in the future.

  • "Overall a lovely little apartment, a few pros and cons to note: Pros: Good location, near to town centre, be aware that there is a fairly steep hill to climb to get to the flat from town."

Good sized living area and main bedroom. Well equipped kitchen with plenty of worktop space and loads of cupboards. Lovely high ceilings and huge windows. Nice and warm and heats up very quickly. Free street parking outside, we always found a space, but we went off-season. Great shower and lovely bathroom. Clean and tidy. Cons: The mattress in the double room needs to be replaced immediately. It's hard, lumpy and unbelievably uncomfortable. I got up very early one morning to go and lie on the sofa instead. I appreciate mattresses are expensive but I wouldn't stay in this flat again purely based on this so it's a worthwhile investment. The kitchen bin needs to be replaced as the broken lid is infuriating. A visitors' book would be great, it's always helpful to read what other people have been up to on their visit and get recommendations for nearby attractions and restaurants.

  • "Over all, the accommodation is a nice apartment, well situated for the town."

The kitchen & lounge area is nice! We did, however, feel like there are a few things that need to be addressed. The double bed has the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on- it’s very hard. I didn’t sleep well and we left a night early in the end because of this. The bedding & pillows have stains on them, are very bobbly, and the spare pillows in the wardrobe had pet hairs and a ‘smell’ to them. The towels provided were far too small to wrap around you. Great that there was a washing machine, We used it- but then found there was no clothes airer to hang them to dry?? The bathroom is nice, but be aware the shower head isn’t secure and moves so often sprays water across the room. For the price we paid, I expected a bit more as the rent we paid for one week would fix all these issues.

Hi thanks for feedback double bed mattress has now been replaced and issues with shower have been fixed also WiFi now been installed in the apartment Property Owner

Only other issues within the property was several of the mugs were badly chipped so I would recommend they be removed and changed, and one of the handles on chest of drawers had come off prior to our visit and needed screwing back on,otherwise a lovely spacious flat and very clean.

  • "The heating in the property was set to 18c, however the room temp was dropping to 16and the heating stayed off."

We found by turning it up to 25 it would heat adequately, but this had to be done every 4 hours, therefore the property was cold when we came back from a day out. The TV had a handful of channels, the instructions for the Sky remote didn't make sense as the remote had no writing on. After googling a photo to hopefully get it to work, it still didn't work. There is no digital button on the remote, as advised to press this button . The shower was ridiculously cold. I wrote 'hi' in the dust on the bedside lamp. The photo of the outside of the property, in the listing, is not that of the property, so we tried to enter the wrong property.

Quiet building but close to town centre. We were a little concerned about parking but we found free street parking close to the flat each time we returned from a day out and that was at the beginning of August. Quite a steep climb walking from the town to the flat - might be too much for the ‘infirm’. Otherwise a very good location and a clean, comfortable flat. Twin room very ‘cosy’ - probably suited to children although we had 2 adults in it. Double room spacious. No lock on bathroom door (presumably to prevent small children from locking themselves in). Minor point but a hook on the back of the bathroom would have been useful. Great shower over the bath and plenty of hot water. Washing machine in the kitchen area but we didn’t use it. Not sure where you would dry clothes. A pleasant, comfortable flat - would recommend it - plenty to see and do in Whitby and the surrounding area.

Cooker not working. 2 piece suite very hard and uncomfortable. Lots of scaffolding up at rear overlooking small bedroom. Small bedroom had damp on walls, also water running down wall near radiator. My main criticism is lack of car parking. Unable to drop off or collect suitcases for some time. When returning from days out would take 30 minutes to find parking space. We have been with Sykes approx 10 times over last few years and really pleasantly surprised by accommodation and !ocations. We usually never moan but I feel let down and very disappointed this time. Would not recommend it to anybody especially if they were elderly.

There was a lack of storage for clothes, towels etc, lack of instructions for washing machine and cooker which had lost its markings for what was what and where the switches were.l was glad I ‘d read on reviews about the lack of even one roll of toilet paper - why do mean esp as it’s usually the first thing visitors need on arrival? Good location and free parking nearby, good decor but chipped crockery and a struggle to improvise when cooking because of lack of dishes - we were using egg boxes for egg cups! I think you should suggest that certain items should be brought if staying here. Mixed feelings about this flat.

  • "The flat was very good with great bedrooms, good bathroom, very clean and with lots of character."

A central location with easy walking distance to the front. It was a little awkward to begin with as their was no toilet paper in the flat and we have two very small children. I would have expected a single roll as a courtesy. Also, in this modern age, WiFi would have meant a slightly higher ‘facilities’ score. Other than those two things, very satisfied and would stop again.
