  • “Cottage was as described.”

The cleanliness was excellent. We were able to gain entry on day of arrival at 4pm. All instructions were clear. The area is stunning with at least 5 places for evening meals within 10-15 miles. The cleanliness was excellent. We were able to gain entry on day of arrival at 4pm. All instructions were clear. The area is stunning with at least 5 places for evening meals within 10-15 miles. Plenty of local walks and beaches. Skerray itself is nice and quiet. The polytunnel (Torrisdale Tunnel) is worth a visit. However, no proper shop in Tongue so worth taking your own food, though Tesco seem to do a roaring trade in home deliveries. Coffee places mixed and sometimes hard to find. Only slight negative on the cottage is that a dishwasher would have been more use to us than a washing machine.

The property

Bettyhill 6.4 miles.

Nestled on the outskirts of the pretty hamlet of Skerray, and 3 miles from the North Coast 500 route is this stunning stone cottage.

A property doesn't get more rural than this, situated at the very top of the Scottish Highlands, boasting fabulous countryside views from the front and lovely farmland views from the rear.

ORNUM offers a superb base for exploring all the North Coast of Scotland has to offer, with lovely period features showcasing the wealth of character this property has.

The ground floor offers a welcoming sitting room, with plenty of seating options for a relaxing evening with your loved ones, while the woodburning stove provides that extra bit of heat during those chilly winter months.

Step through to the dining room, which has plenty of heating for families to dine together.

The kitchen is wonderfully-appointed to the rear, with high-quality appliances on-hand to rustle up a delicious home-cooked meal for everyone.

A large shower room completes the ground floor, with quality fixtures and fittings.

Follow the steps up to the first floor, which boats three wonderfully sized bedrooms; one double-size, one twin and one single.

Each bedroom has a range of furniture for storing your personal items, with magnificent views.

Use the rear gravelled area to sit out of an evening and enjoy a refreshing beverage.

This remote part of Scotland has many places to visit, including the fabulous historic Castle Varrich, boasting castle ruins and plenty of hiking to get involved with.

Venture towards Ben Loyal, an isolated mountain, which offers climbing and hiking opportunities.

With easy access to a number of beaches situated across the coast, for fun-filled family day trips.

Return to ORNUM for a relaxing holiday on the north coast of Scotland.

About the location

THURSO

John O' Groats 14 miles, Wick 20.4 miles.

Thurso is the most northerly town in mainland Scotland and also boasts the country's most northerly railway station! Guests can take a ferry across to Orkney. John O'Groats Ferries offer the popular day trip package of ferry and tour. Orkney is a great place to visit and the ferry crosses regularly throughout the year from Scrabster and Gills Bay. If you take your car then remember to book first! Another great place to visit is the Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey, why not walk around the stunning gardens or take the children to the animal farm! Thurso benefits from a pretty seafront location and from here you can see the remains of Thurso Castle. The newer part of the town benefits from wide streets with Sir John's Square at the centre. The town offers a good selection of shops, restaurants and hotels and everything that visitors to the area could possibly need. The Dunnet beach is a fantastic beach to visit! It is also situated perfectly for a visit to John O'Groats, which is just 14 miles away and Durness, where Smoo Cave, Cape Wrath and the Durness Golf Course are well worth a visit.
