  • "We weren’t even supposed to be there for our break, as the owners had shut the place down because they were away on holiday themselves."

You obviously either didn’t record this holiday, or just didn’t listen. If it hadn’t been for extremely helpful chap who lived at the same location, we’d have been travelling back another 8 hour drive. He managed to get in touch with the owners, who organised a cleaner so that we could stay in the property. We tried to contact you on multiple occasions on the Saturday, all ending in failure, and to top it off, you didn’t even return our calls when we selected a call back. Shocking service, and I won’t be using or recommending Sykes Cottages again.

  • "Great, neat wee cabin."

Perfect base for exploring the area. It has all the essentials, as listed in the booking info. The area is quiet, which was lovely. The animals are an added bonus, it was lovely to see the dogs after a 5 year gap. We can't wait to visit again.

  • "Please read everything about cottage properly carefully before booking Good points: Good View outside Can see Ben nevis from outaide cottage Get to see some chickens roaming around Got a small TV that works but doesn't connect to the WiFi so use your hotspot Bad points : I wish this cottage didn't run on a meter."

This is the biggest downfall Unfortunately I wasn't thinking wisely before booking this Booked cottages before. This is the most bad experience because of this meter which seemed to use up money quick The old man I assume the husband was rude . The wife is nicely spoken No iron No ironboard Heater in bedroom didn't work Heater in living room couldn't feel hot air coming out Basics weren't given the way other cottages do like sugar and Teabags. No central heating Water gets warm by switching on a button which then makes water warm. This also uses the meter up. I don't think this cottage should be more than 300 to 350 because of this meter being installed Lesson learnt: Never to book a cottage that runs on a meter again Look for a cottage that provides basics like our previous cottages we booked around the UK for holiday such as iron, iron board, mop, vacuum, central heating . Would I book this cottage again? Nope If you don't mind simple cottages that run on a meter then this is for you

It was well presented within a small compound of similar cabins with friendly owners also living there. We were a group of 2 older couples and we found the facilities fulfilled our requirements totally. We thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay, and the cabin certainly enhanced our experience. Thank you so much

  • "Lovely comfy cottage set in the grounds of the owners home which is in a really peaceful spot."

Glen Dessary was really a home away from home. Double bed was really comfortable and I’m fussy with beds. The cottage was well equipped with plenty of heaters if required. We used the one in the hall and kept the bedroom and bathroom doors open to warm the rooms and the one in the lounge which warmed the kitchen as well. There’s a £1 coin meter for the electric with £7 pre loaded, we put a further £4 in during our stay which I think is perfectly acceptable for a week as the weather was a bit wet and cool. Glen Dessary was really conveniently placed for Fort William and has plenty of shops not far and one pub which we did frequent and was had very good COVID measures in place. We loved the free range chickens that just wandered past the windows which belonged to the owners along with their two dogs that liked to play together. Fort William itself had a larger range of shops especially supermarkets which was most convenient. We did plenty of walks locally as well as a short drive to car parks to start a walk. If staying in the area again I would book this cottage again.

  • "This lodge was perfect for our needs."

First I should start by saying there is Wi-Fi, which was a pleasant surprise as it states on the website there is no Wi-Fi. The lodge was cosy and comfortable. It's in a tranquil setting, with 5 lodges set around a big, neat grass area. This is where we could watch the owners friendly dogs play and the hens pecked. It was so relaxing and peaceful we could pretend there was no pandemic! Also we could hear the steam train and see it's steam. From our back windows we had a great view of Ben Nevis. There is a co-op in walking distance and most hikes and walks only a short car ride away. The £1 coin meter was preloaded with £7, which we didn't actually all use up. We had fine weather for September.

Rabbits, dogs and chickens a change from the norm. The dogs were great as my daughter missed our own pooch. A fabulous time had by all, only thing missing was a dryer but not missed that much. Great for Potter fans as the train goes under the bridge at the end of the lane( yes that steam train that goes over the viaduct). A super stay!

It was a pity that building work behind the chalet woke us earlier than normal and went on all day. In addition the floodlight shining directly into the bedroom all night prevented me from using the main bedroom. Was able to use one bedroom and the lounge wasn't too bad so slept on the floor in there behind the sofa. Nevertheless the chalet was clean and nicely decorated. The local shops were good and friendly and did not mind us requesting all our change in pound coins. Overall a nice break and Fort William is a good centre from which to explore that part of the Highlands.

Nobody keeps enough coins in their wallet( 30-40) all the time. we spent nearly 50-pound coins and all night long our only concern was to keep the cottage warm for two kids, who slept in their jumpers with the warm bottle for the first time in their life

The house was lovely and peaceful, for animal lovers there are animal’s onsite and they are very friendly these included dog’s cats rabbits and chickens, and didn’t hear them at all. All the facilities in the house were working the cooker had only 3 working rings which made cooking a bit more difficult but for those who only cook for a few nights this is no problem. Also the people in the area are lovely and very welcoming including the animals  Overall I would highly recommend staying at glen dessery, I know we will be in the future
