  • "I rated 3 Stars because…the area the lodge was situated in and the busy road at the back , I felt if you had children you would have to watch them very carefully."

The outside of the lodge is badly in need of painting as are the chairs. The logs that were provided were far too big and didn’t burn so we gave them away to another resident who chopped them up. We can’t really fault the cleanliness. Overall we don’t feel it was worth what we paid and we wouldn’t return.

Dear Jane, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We always value our guests' opinions as they help us improve. However, we must admit we're quite surprised by the contrast between this review and the email you sent during your stay, where you mentioned being "really impressed with the lodge" and that you came to relax as three sisters. We thought it might be helpful to address some of your main points: 1. Safety: While we understand your hypothetical concern about children and the road, our lodge is primarily designed and marketed for adult groups like yours. We typically don't receive many bookings from families with young children, as they tend to prefer locations with more child-oriented amenities. We do make the property's location and surroundings clear in our listing to set appropriate expectations for all guests. 2. Exterior maintenance: The lodge's exterior is designed to weather naturally, embracing a rustic aesthetic that complements its woodland setting. We regularly maintain and monitor it to ensure it meets our quality standards. 3. Firewood: We apologize that the provided logs were not suitable. We'll review our firewood supply to ensure it's more user-friendly for future guests. 4. Cleanliness: We're glad you found no fault with the cleanliness. Our thorough cleaning process between stays is a point of pride for us. 5. Value: We're sorry you felt the stay wasn't worth the cost, especially given your initial positive impression. Our pricing reflects the quality of accommodation, the natural setting, and our operating expenses, and is competitive with nearby alternatives. We aim to provide a unique experience in a natural setting, which differs from more conventional accommodations. We're disappointed to hear your final impression doesn't match your initial feedback, but we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Thank you again for choosing our lodge for your sisters' getaway. Sincerely, Angela & Ian Blue Pine Lodge Property Owner

  • "Still waiting for the phone call from Sykes about heating, which was on when we arrived but Sykes should have known this beforehand."

Living area was cooler than the bedrooms, needed to use the woodburner which didn't have enough logs for been on every night, glad I took our own logs. Driveway to the log cabin was full of post holes and most had hard standing but this one was some way across the grass. As the cabin was close to the road, there was quite a bit of road noise and during summer it could be more as their is a caravan camp just up the road. Inside the pans weren't perfect, looked as if been burnt on in a previous life, Cooker and Microwave all good, Lighting was good, Bathroom had a good shower system and the beds comfortable, plenty of seating

Dear Guest, we appreciate your feedback. While we regret the miscommunication from Sykes, we're delighted our team ensured the cabin was warm and inviting upon your arrival for the Christmas holidays. Creating a cozy, festive ambiance is very important to us. Regarding the firewood, you make a fair point - our policy of providing a starter log pack while leaving any additional needs up to our guests could have been clearer upfront. Thank you for that feedback, as it allows us to improve transparency moving forward. Clear expectations are key to a lovely guest experience. We're grateful you could make some lovely holiday memories despite any minor inconveniences. Your insights on areas like the cookware and driveway conditions are also valued, as they help us continually elevate our property for future visitors. We strive to provide a welcoming, comfortable escape, and reviews like yours ensure we're on the right track. Thank you again for choosing our holiday home. We hope the festive decor and memorable moments with loved ones made this a special Christmas stay. It would be our pleasure to welcome you back soon! Best wishes, Angela & Ian Property Owner

The heaters were all or nothing having a young child he could easily have burnt himself there was no protection around radiators or fire

Dear Guest, Thank you for raising this important issue regarding the heating systems in our rustic cabin. The safety of all guests, especially young children, is a top priority. While we provide bedroom heaters and a log fire for warmth and ambiance, we recognize the need for caution around these heating sources when little ones are present. We will look into how we can provide this for families with young children. We're glad everything else was great during your stay and we trust you had a wonderful holiday overall. Thank you for choosing our holiday cabin. Best wishes, Angela & Ian Property Owner

  • "Too close to busy road which is thoroughfare to Embo, the headlights shining in at night affected sleep."

Not able to park closer to the lodge. A footpath to the decking would be good so your not walking through wet grass.

Dear Guest, we understand your concerns regarding the road noise and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. While we make every effort to provide a tranquil setting, we aim to set proper expectations about the cabin's location by noting details in our listing and through previous guest reviews. Regarding the parking and decking access, the footpaths and surrounding areas are outside of our direct control. However, we've raised your suggestion for a walkway to the decking with the landowners to potentially enhance the guest experience moving forward. We're so glad to hear everything else about your stay was wonderful and trust you had a great time overall. Thank you for choosing our lovely cabin and for your understanding. • "Blue Pine Cottage is in a community of like structures in a setting not as desirable as the photos show."

The property itself backs onto the road so the main bedroom is about 10 feet from the road with no barrier to prevent the sound of cars. We booked for seven nights but only spent two actually sleeping in the accommodation. It is nicely appointed and has everything needed, except a smart TV. If it were in a different location it could be delightful.

Dear Mr Kirby We are so very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced at the lodge, we are mindful of the cabin position and try to ensure this is flagged on the website as we appreciate it can be disruptive. • "Stayed at blue pine cottage for 2 night."

On arrival the place was like walking into a fridge. No heating on for arrival. So it took over 2 hours to get some sort of heat in the place. No hot water. Was luke warm at best. Shower was more like a trickle of water. Main bedroom window looks on to main road so you hear the traffic going past when your trying to get sleep. Only good things about this lodge was the log fire and the kitchen is well equipped. Definitely not worth the money. Won’t be back!!!!

Thank you for your recent feedback, we are so sorry that your stay didn't go as planned, we want everyone who stays at Blue Pine Lodge to have the most wonderful and stress free holiday. We're investigating the water issue as both temperature and power are usually very good, we'll make sure thermostats are at the right temperature moving forward. The main source of heating for the living area is the log fire, it's usually pretty reliable to get the cabin nice and cosy very quickly and the heaters in the bedrooms & bathroom have a pretty immediate impact, but again my apologies this didn't seem to be the case for your arrival and I do appreciate how frustrating that must have been. Your comments on the positioning of the cabin are valid, and we will make sure this is very clear on the website so future guests are aware. I'll reach out to you directly too. • "The place is beautiful, really relaxing and a brilliant location to explore the coasts and waters nearby."

We found the cabin to be really cosy, it felt private enough due to distance from other cabins, the fire was easy to use and very cosy. Good shower and comfortable bed. The one thing to be aware of is that the cabin is next to a road, so very light sleepers might find this a problem. After the first night it was really no problem for us though. I am disabled and experience fatigue and pain a lot, this place was more than comfortable for me. A great break, we would recommend this place.
