  • "Comfortable house, cosy in February and nice garden/balcony to sit out in good weather and for children to play outside."

The view is beautiful. Spotlessly clean and well appointed, with everything you might need for a week. Lots of walks from the doorstep and a great pub just around the corner. Great location for birdwatching and a short drive to lots of interesting places.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Haven Cottage, and thank-you for your kind feedback. With best wishes Pam & Mike Roworth Property Owner

  • "Great location and easy access to all areas."

Cottage was very well presented and clean. Facilities and household items provided were all we needed to enjoy our stay. Enjoyed sitting in the garden and watching the wildlife visiting us. Walking distance to some great pubs.

Our second stay and we will be back again. Lots of living space and a great garden with amazing views. Lots of walks from the door and of course the beach and Ship Inn.

  • "We really like Haven cottage, it is the second time that we have stayed here."

The property is everything you could ask for, spacious, clean and well equipped. The location is great, as it’s so near the beach. Good for children too with a large enclosed garden. We would be going next year but alas it’s fully booked.

  • "The property is in a great location."

We felt the cleanliness could be better. Generally it was clean but it really could do with a very good clean… for instance pulling furniture out, going in between cupboards/behind beds/under sofa/cobwebs in the kitchen cupboards and between cabinets. You didn’t have to really look for these dirty/cobweb parts, they could be seen easily. The property probably could also do with a bit of a decoration update. Just some observations from our stay, especially noted with the cost we paid. Hope this helps!

Thank-you for your review. We were in fact there ourselves the preceding week and did give it an extra thorough clean, so we are disappointed by your comments. It is serviced by an experienced and dedicated caretaker each week and the windows are cleaned monthly. We also have a deep Spring and Autumn clean, and have a schedule for repainting and the replacement of linen etc. Obviously everyone will have different expectations from a holiday let; we like our guests to feel that Haven Cottage is their own second home by the sea for their stay, with the same standards they would adopt themselves if it were their own. • "I was apprehensive about staying in this cottage after reading Roberts review in December 2022 and Richards review in February 2023 regarding the cleanliness and bed linen needing replacing."

The house could definitely benefit from a really deep clean. There was still evidence of cob webs in the master bedroom, dust behind the headboard. Also the skirting boards behind the sofa were dusty. The windows were full of finger marks and bird droppings. Pillows on the beds were as flat as a pancake. There was a tub of ice-cream left in the freezer, and the fridge could do with a good clean. The cottage is dated and in need of an upgrade. Obviously the view's from the cottage are stunning. Plus the proximity to the beach and the pub just yards away. Luckily we were blessed with lovely sunny weather all week all be it a little chilly . Apart from everything I have mentioned we did have a nice relaxing week. But not sure if I would return sorry.

  • "The proper was not clean enough."

There were cobwebs in the entrance, in the hallway, the main bedroom and a lot of cobwebs in the living including the side of the bookshelf and above the settee. The backs of the doors were full of dust and the skirting boards were also dusty and dirty. the house needed a proper clean. This is not acceptable and very disappointing. We expected better and the cleanliness of the living room and bedroom in particular were unacceptable. We had to clean some of the cobwebs from the living room and bedroom ourselves on the first night.

Thank-you for taking the time to write your review and for bringing your concerns to our attention. We are obviously very disappointed that you did not on this occasion experience the high standards that we normally try to maintain. We are investigating and shall address all the points you have made. Property Owner

  • "The hearing wasn’t on on arrival and it wudnt come on in the middle of winter."

We had to try and contact a caretaker to come out. No light left on , eventually got it going. House wasn’t clean. The bedding was old and worn out , didn’t even want to touch it. The wood burner was still Full of ash. There was food in the freezer from the last people. It wasn’t fit to be let. The caretaker said it wasn’t ready as Sykes had only let them know about the booking at the very last minute. It shudnt matter when u make a booking , the house should be clean and warm. There was no sign of Christmas , for a Christmas booking. I think it was a total rip off for the money , and you ruined our Christmas. The linen in the house needs throwing away. For tye amount we paid, surely the owners cud afford some new linen. The house needs a deep clean. I had to clean everywhere before I cud use anything. Basically a disgrace for the money we were charged. Hope you are proud.

The guests arrived on 23 December 2022 to find that the Central Heating Boiler had malfunctioned (which is an extremely rare occurrence) and that the Cottage was cold. They contacted the caretaker who went round immediately to resolve the issue. Within half an hour of their arrival the Central Heating was working again and continued to operate normally throughout their stay. This was a most unfortunate incident and the guests were understandably upset. I contacted the guests later that evening by phone to apologise, and to check that the central heating was working properly, to leave my phone number and to ask them to contact me immediately if they had any further problems. No other issues were raised at this time Neither I nor the caretaker were contacted again, but soon after the guests had departed I found their very negative review, which introduced further issues that they had not raised during their stay. We have not received any similar complaint since taking over the property 3 years ago. Inevitably things do sometimes go wrong, and we do encourage guests to contact our caretakers (who live in the same road) immediately if a problem arises so it may be resolved promptly. I would like to re-assure guests who may be concerned by this negative review that Haven Cottage will continue to be comfortable and clean, and that the central heating system is well maintained and good condition.
