  • "Clean and very helpful owner."

Welcome drink appreciated. Property ideal for fantastic walks and within easy reach to several towns. Could do with more cooking dishes in the kitchen (pots and casserole) and also water and milk jug. But was delighted with cleanliness. Also appreciated being left alone though owner lived nearby. Would certainly be back A lovely friendly cat visited daily. Gorgeous creature - especially if you like cats as we do. Wonderful break in a beautiful setting and very comfortable and clean property Thank you

Thank you for your feed back....it is always good to know what extra's are required and I have now purchased and are in the property. Thank you for your Visit. Property Owner

  • "On arrival, we were greeted with scones and mini chocolate eggs for the children."

A lovely touch. Louise was very helpful and responded quickly with some queries I had before arriving. I felt there could be a few more kitchen utensils such as a bread knife, and large saucepans would have been great. A mirror in the main bedroom would be good too. A glass broke in the dishwasher but Louise was very kind about it. The adults loved being able to chill in the conservatory and watch the children play in the garden in the day time, and it was perfect for chilling in the evening. The location is stunning. Very quiet and close to Ilam Park and Dovedale. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you for your feedback, more utensils purchased and a movable mirror in the main bedroom. Thank you for visiting. Property Owner

  • "Comfortable cottage in a superb location."

Close to Dove Dale, Thorpe Cloud and Ilam (all within walking distance from the front door). Good sized rooms and very clean. Louise also kindly left us some scones on arrival. Thoroughly enjoyed our short break.

  • "Property is dirty, garden is not fully enclosed and owner refused to accept feedback when contacted through Sykes privately."

Shortly after arrival, we noticed that the downstairs toilet seat was dirty, when lifting it the underside of the seat was covered in brown and yellow spots! We then found a cheese like substance on a kitchen cupboard, crumbs and grease on work surfaces, the fridge hadn’t been wiped, dirty oven, dirty dishwasher, crumbs on the floor, and everything was sticky to touch! We then decide that we’d check the rest of the house. The wooden shelves by the side of the fire were filthy; the TV had been wiped but badly smeared. The bathroom was disgusting, the bath had some water still in it, there was a tidemark around it and the soap dish in the shower was filthy. Someone had left a small part of a bar of soap on a dirty soap dish and behind the sink was black mould. Again, the toilet was unclean too. We cleaned the property thoroughly, which we shouldn’t have had to do, but we just wanted to be able to enjoy our holiday. It should have been clean before our arrival. We mopped the floors and the water was filthy. Our second problem was regarding the garden, which was described as enclosed. We assumed this meant safe for dogs. It just meant there was a fence. This fence did not go down to the ground, there were gaps of approx 10” below the fence, with one larger gap leading to a very large drop down, this is definitely a safety issue for both dogs and children. Our dog disappeared on the first morning. He had gone through a gap into the garden next door, which we know now, but was missing for a while and was very worrying at the time as we were unsure where he had gone. We feel that this property has been neglected all round concerning cleanliness and safety. The list could go on further, no one else should have to spend their money on a very dirty cottage.

  • "We had a great week’s stay in this lovely cottage."

It is perfectly placed for loads of fab walks and was nice to come back to a nice quiet place after our walks. There were plenty of birds to watch in the garden, even a pheasant! Louise was welcoming and friendly and even left homemade scones for us, a lovely touch. Great views from the cottage too.

  • "This cottage was booked at the last minute, on the day of arrival, due to our original booking being cancelled."

The cottage was huge, warm and comfortable, with loads of storage space. The kitchen facilities, bedding and towels etc all appeared to be new. We were met by the owner with the keys and a box of lovely home made scones. Inside there was tea, coffee chocolates and milk in the fridge. Very thoughtful. The owners lived nearby and the neighbours and villagers were all friendly and had time to chat if they saw us walking the dog. We were also visited by a little friendly cat and a huge beautiful pheasant. The nearby countryside is beautiful with plenty of walks from the house. Ashbourne and Carsington Water are both very close and well worth a visit. Overall a very quiet and relaxing holiday, we would like to come back.

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 14 miles, Ticknall 24.7 miles, Bolsover 33.5 miles

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by. Alton Towers is just 20 minutes away.
