  • "The Lanterns is a well appointed ground floor apartment within easy walking distance of Buxton town centre."

The apartment has all you need for a week’s break - there’s also a designated parking space and, for bike users, a secure bike store.

Hello Alexander, Thank you so much for your positive feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed The Lanterns and thank you for pointing out our new Secure Bike Store. We’re lucky to have been awarded funding for this from UK Government as part of The Levelling Up Fund, now meaning we are able to offer cyclist friendly accommodation in the Peak District and even more sustainable travel options. We hope to see you again in future. Many thanks, Property Owner

  • "We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful abode for a very special Anniversary, and we are so happy we did!"

It has everything one could possibly want and more for a relaxing break away. It was spotlessly clean (and we are very picky about cleanliness), extremely comfortable and peaceful. The owners are so lovely and have great, fast communication. The whole process from booking, checking in and leaving was a breeze. The owners have also gone the extra mile on little touches, from personalised The Lanterns items and decor (which made the accommodation feel more like a luxury hotel) to really thoughtful and very generous welcome gifts, all from local Buxton sources. You can tell that the owners genuinely care about their product and that you enjoy your stay to the upmost. The location of the property is perfect, just a short peaceful stroll into the hustle and bustle of lovely Buxton and equally a perfect location for anyone visiting the other wonderful delights the Peak District has to offer. We would definitely book to come and stay at The Lanterns again, we loved it! Thank you very for a wonderful stay!!

Hello Lorna, Thank you so much for your positive feedback. We’re glad you found the Lanterns well equipped and conveniently located, with a nice garden area. Regarding the parking space, unfortunately there isn't much more we can do to increase the size of it, and whilst we regularly have large vans use it when we have maintenance work undertaken, we agree it may require a greater level of care and attention on entry and exiting than some. It was possible to walk into the centre of Buxton. The car parking space was an advantage, although it was tricky to get into it. We struggled with the induction hob, which was new to us, otherwise the facilities were good. We were disappointed that we were asked to take our own towels. As we were driving on to continue our holiday elsewhere having damp towels in a bin bag was not ideal. Thanks to Damian for "the goodies" and fresh milk on arrival.

Hello Ann, Thank you for your positive review. We are glad you found The Lanterns comfortable, central, and a good base for visiting the Peak District. Sorry about the parking. Whilst we have recently installed lights to improve visibility, unfortunately there isn't much more we can do to improve the space any further and whilst we regularly have large vans use the space when we have maintenance work done, we agree it may require a greater level of care and attention on entry and exiting than some. We're sorry you missed it in the welcome pack that we are more than happy to provide towels on request, we really hope this didn't spoil the rest of your holiday. The property was very comportable - we didn't want for anything and would definitely consider a return visit. The welcome goodies were well received - needed a cuppa when we arrived! Not the easiest place to find in the dark or manoeuvre out of the parking spot in the dark, but we managed - glad I drive a small car. Thank you so much for your understanding regarding the mislaid keys.

Hello Sally, Thank you for your positive feedback. We’re so glad you enjoyed your break at The Lanterns to celebrate both of your birthdays. And the cuppa on arrival, you can’t beat it after a long drive up! Regarding manoeuvrability from the parking space, thank you for raising this. It is in a quiet, leafy residential area just minutes walk from the town centre. The apartment itself was comfortable, warm, cosy and peaceful; there were no issues with noise from the adjoining flats. The kitchen is small with limited counter space; it was manageable to prepare meals for 2 but would be more awkward for 4. Unable to reach top shelf even with low step provided. Also you needed to put food waste into compostable bags which is fine but no caddy to hold them in so we used a mixing bowl. We would happily stay here again if we visit the area again.

Hello Lynne, Thank you for your positive review and feedback. We're glad you found the beds very comfortable and The Lanterns well furnished for your holiday. A comfortable bed can make all the difference. Being a period property the ceilings are typically a little higher and to make the best use of space in the kitchen the cupboards are a little taller so it can be difficult for some to reach the top shelf without the step. However, to make it easier we have tried to make sure the most commonly used crockery and utensils are stored lower down. Hopefully this helps. Hello Navdeep. Thank you for your review. We're sorry the WiFi was only working in the living room. We are looking into getting this resolved in the quieter months. • "Everything was lovely, it was great to have a fire as we don’t have 1 at home."

It was a short walk to the centre with plenty of shops and bars( although some where not open due to only being able to drink outside) The only problem we had was the drive up the lane to the lanterns ,we have a low car and it bottomed out about 3/4 of the way up,although it didn’t damage the car but be aware. But all in all we had a very enjoyable stay

Hello Tracy, We're glad you found everything lovely, and that the fire was an added bonus not having one at home. We're sorry you had issues with the lane. We've now re-surfaced it so it won't be a problem for future guests. Thank you for your feedback and the positive review. We hope to see you again soon! Many thanks Property Owner

  • "The Lanterns was a perfect base for exploring The Peaks."

The place was very comfortable. We enjoyed the fire in the living room and the owner left some lovely cake, tea and coffee for us to enjoy. Would recommend! The Internet was long avalable in the living room which was not a problem at all but might be useful for other people to know.

Hello Ellen, Thank you for your review. So glad The Lanterns was perfect for your break. The local cake is a form favourite amongst our guests so I’m happy you enjoyed it too! We appreciate your comments regarding the WiFi. It’s a problem we will try to solve in the quieter months. The thickness of the walls in the property make it hard for the signal to penetrate into the bedroom so we need to find a solution to this. Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you again soon! About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
