The welcome basket was much appreciated and the Christmas decorations were a nice addition.

They were most helpful and friendly. The situation of the Old Carthouse is ideal for walks up onto the ridge and for low level walks --to Edale especially.

  • "The Old Cart House is very conveniently located in the Hope valley."

The place is nicely decorated, well equipped and created an excellent ambiance during our stay. We are thankful to the owner for basketful of fruits, some vegetables, and a bottle of wine. We enjoyed our stay. One thing we would like to point out is that although we were told that there would be a safe containing key and a pin number was provided to get access to it, on arrival we found no such thing. Not having the mobile signal in the area we found ourselves helpless in the rain for good 20 minutes. By chance we ended up at owner's place, couple of houses apart and got a spare key from them. The key was actually in a little housing by the door which looked like an electric socket point. For the next visitor this should be made clear. We have already pointed this out to the owner.

Lovely to meet you and thank you for your kind feedback. We have taken on board your comments and will update the necessary information. Property Owner

  • "What a lovely stay we had!"

A very comfortable cottage, weather was a bit cool for us, but the cottage was really cosy and the log burner was just great with plenty of timber. The basket of fruit and bottle of wine was a great touch too.The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Lovely, accommodating and friendly hosts, our grandchildren bottle feeding the lambs was something we'll never forget, nothing was too much trouble, would highly recommend this lovely cottage.

  • "Good design and very comfortable."

It is set among several farm buildings so there is occasionally the opportunity to talk to the family and see the cows and horses. Also well placed in the Edale valley with some walks straight from the door and easy drives to Mam Tor ridge, Hope, Castleton and Hathersage.

  • "A really enjoyable stay on a working farm."

Our fourth trip to the area for walking and our first stay in The Old Carthouse. Clean, warm, cosy, and superbly fitted-out. Vast amounts of towels, bedding and kitchen items. Wine, fruit and milk in the fridge is a nice touch. WiFi is booming but there is no phone signal in the area (if that is critical to anyone). Highly recommended!!

  • "We found this little cottage completely by chance as we were attending a wedding in the area."

The cottage is next to a road but we were not disturbed by traffic. The cottage is very clean, comfortable and the addition of a fruit basket and wine was a lovely touch. The owners live next door so any queries etc can be dealt with quickly. The views from the property are stunning and there is a nearby footpath into Edale village which is an easy walk. We ate at the Cheshire cheese pub which was very pleasant.

Even better than the photos. Our family of 6 loved staying here. The farm was lovely, the owners lovely. A wonderful basket of fresh fruit and veges and wine on arrival, everything we needed to make it so comfortable. It was a perfect place to stay and be close to beautiful walks, other towns, the train station...

Excellent rural location in Edale, comfortable, cosy accommodation and well equipped, with extra items such as fruit, milk, wine in addition to essentials- tea coffee, condiments etc. Perfect for a snatched 2 night family gathering where the energetic members hiked and the younger ones met the animals on the farm and relaxed. We will return!

  • "The property was perfectly clean and well equipped with everything we needed."

The welcome pack was really good as was the availability of unlimited free wood for the lovely wood burning stove. The Wi-Fi was good but we had no O2 phone signal at all (not just at the cottage but throughout the area - not your problem!). The TV with multi channel access was great and the (probably recent) carpet throughout was nice under foot (we took slippers for around the cottage as access to cottage is quite muddy - working farm - no problem). The settees in the lounge are "tired" and not particularly comfortable but this did not detract from us having a thoroughly pleasurable stay: many thanks!

  • "The farmhouse was beautiful, perfectly situated to visit all the highly suggested places."

The house was clean and tidy on arrival and they had left us some milk eggs and wine which was a lovely thought. The carpets were lovely and soft and they left towels for us in each room. However there were some areas I feel could be improved. The beds were a little stiff so I ended up putting two folded blankets on top of my mattress but that was fine. And the advert states enclosed garden with patio, this isn’t enclosed. There’s a wall between the farm house ‘patio’ and the farm owners patio which only counts for one third of the area we have for the farm yard. The rest is open to the owners driveway and cars come and go throughout the day so I was unable to let my children out their unsupervised and had to keep them to one corner. Some of the windows downstairs, specifically the back door in the kitchen and the full length door just before the lounge had no coverings to the windows which at night time, with zero lights outside, made you feel very open and vulnerable, also one thing they could do to improve is add a DVD player and some generic dvds to the small amount of things already available. We had one particularly bad day of weather where we couldn’t go anywhere, so attempted to have a movie day, but no DVD players or dvds were there and the internet did not allow for Netflix to be used on the internet as it was too slow. These were minor things as we were out most of the days anyway. All in all. A lovely place to stay for a short trip.
