"Comfortable house with all the comforts of home."
Everything catered for.
"We really enjoyed our stay - comfortable and clean - walks nearby - beautiful view of the hills from the front - lots to explore."
Spectacular views from the front. Great base for a holiday on the edge of the Peak District. Great pubs in the village and lovely places to visit in the area.
In a wonderful location. Perfect for our stay. Just relax and enjoy the views. 2 mins to the local pub, to eat too. And opposite the steam railway. Thank you owners.
"The property was very good for what we needed."
Did need a refresh on the decoration. The owners were brilliant and very accommodating. Everything that you needed was provided and the property was clean. All in all we enjoyed our stay very much.
"A cosy and comfortable property located in easy reach of attractions."
Close by are pubs serving goof food, a couple of local shops and very pleasant walks along the canal. Would recommend as an excellent base for exploring the Potteries area and south Peak District.
"Fourth stay at this lovely house."
Very clean, comfortable and cosy with great Wi-Fi and the added bonus of the most wonderful view from the lounge window. Paul and Dawn are very helpful and friendly owners. For us this property provides a great base for walking and exploring the area as well as visiting friends and family.
"A brilliant week spent at Basford View, it really was home from home."
So well equipped, everything you could possibly need is available. Extremely clean and comfortable, couldn't ask for better. A great location to explore the immediate area and further afield which has lots to offer. If we decide to come to back to this part of the country in the future we would definitely book again.
"Whilst I accept that the remarks in the Vistor book were all positive, we found the property tired and shabby."
The bathroom shower had black mould and cracked tiles and there were water stains on the wooden surrounds. The bathroom sink was so low and at a jaunty angle, with an aggravating noisy floor in the bathroom. There was no ceiling rose in the bedroom so showing bare wires. The bedroom mirror was so low it was unusable. The parked car ourtside the property did little to enhance the kerb appeal. The driveway was very steep ( we live in Lincolnshire!) Considering the amount we paid, we felt the property was poor value for money. We notice that it has been considsrably reduced for August to £457, this is a more appropriate amount for this type of property.
Thank you for your comments, we are very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Basford View. We do take your comments on board. Thanks again. Property Owner
"We love staying at Basford View this is our 3rd stay and we will be back, it is worth it for the views from the front and the back garden alone."
If we could make one constructive suggestion a hairdryer would be really useful.
We are very sorry about this we used to provide a hairdryer but one of our customers pinched it. However we will look at trying to provide another one. Property Owner
"The property was ideally situated for visiting family in the area."
Comfortable, clean, lovely views from the house and from the adjacent playing fields. Paul and Dawn, the owners, were pleasant and friendly.
"A great place to stay."
Comfy reclining sofa with a big TV, good wifi, everything you could need in the kitchen, and beds you just don’t want to get out of! Well located, easy to get to Derbyshire dales and other tourist places. Steam railway just down the hill (when it’s operating). Very friendly owners. Would highly recommend.
"Very good location for many, many attractions & walks."
Everything in house you would reasonably need and very very clean. Will stay again.
"Lovely area and a walk along the canal is right on your doorstep."
I would stay here again.
"Very well equipped and comfortable house."
Lots of information on local walks, places to visit etc. Convenient for accessing the canals and the Peak District.
"A fantastic property."
The overall design is a little dated, but that is more than offset by a very comfortable, clean and well equipped house. Lots of little details that really make a difference, from the simple things like kitchen roll, scouring pads etc. to the more fundamental like a GREAT shower, decent Wi-fi, very comfy bed. One thing I didn’t think was that important but actually really makes a difference is a very good tv in the living room, this, combined with a cosy sofa with leg risers makes for a very enjoyable evening :) so often in holiday let’s we end up with tiny TVs and uncomfortable sofas! Not here! There are a few great walks that can be done from the property, the canal loop is well worthwhile and includes 3 pubs! Huge thanks to Paul and Dawn for a great stay and a warm welcome. Will definitely use again next time I’m in the area.
"Lovely peaceful location with outstanding views."
The house was warm and comfortable and had everything you needed in the kitchen and throughout the house to ensure a relaxing, stress-free holiday. Lovely owners too. Wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend staying here and will very likely return again ourselves.
"Not quite the holiday home you expect in the middle of a small housing estate but wow the views are fantastic and you wouldn’t even know you were staying in a semi detached house in a small housing estate."
The house is very clean, comfy and beds are amazing! There is everything you need in the house provided which is fantastic! The owners have thought of everything. A tiny little gift in the fridge which is a lovely touch. Great location to get to all attractions. A very enjoyable stay!
"Not a ‘cottagy’ property, but don’t dismiss for that."
A lovely semi, with great views, in a modern clean, friendly village. Property was clean, perfect beds, nice lounge with big TV (we never book a Sykes place if pics show a silly little TV). Great circular walk along canal from heritage railway to flint mill. Lots to do in the area.
"Warm & cosy accommodation with amazingly comfortable beds!"
"Lovely home with lots of extras, highly recommend"
"We had a small problem with the heating, but it was sorted right away."
It was a cosy and comfortable house with beautiful views. I recommend this house if you want tranquillity.
"The property was in a convenient location and had good views from upstairs windows."
There are no major supermarkets nearby and we found no suitable restaurants/ pubs close to the property. The shower operation was erratic suddenly becoming cold, and a few seconds later extremely hot. The bathroom radiator appears to need attention as it did not get hot while the central heating was running. The bathroom is generally old and would benefit from an upgrade.
Thank you for staying at Basford View and providing feedback on your stay. We're sorry that you had issues during your stay, if we had been informed during your time there we would of been able to help. We have since checked on the shower and did not find any issues. Property Owner
"House was easy to find and keys easy to get."
Facilities were as stated or better. We didn't know there was a separate bath and a washing machine, which added to the experience. All that you need for a holiday is here. Would definitely stay again. Thank you
"A great place to stay wonderful scenery and lots of lovely canal walks."
The house was the most comfortable one we have stayed in
"The house was very clean and well-equipped."
The location was peaceful and very quiet but convenient for local attractions.
"We liked the stay and everything was well organized and instructed."
"The view from the cottage is magnificent."
The owners are very kind and helpfull. Very good value for the money.
"The cottage is comfortable and well equipped."
It is in a good location for visiting a number of National trust properties, Alton towers, Waterpark, the potteries and the Peak District. It doesn't say in your advertisement that the property has a dining table and it doesn't appear in any of the photos. I thought that the only place to eat was at the breakfast bar but there is a space saving, folding dining table with 4 chairs stored underneath in the living room.
"This well-equipped and very comfortable holiday house more than met our expectations."
The facilities and cleanliness of the property truly made it a home away from home. We shall definitely book this property again in the future. Thanks to all for a wonderful week.
"This was a warm and comfortable house, very well equipped."
We did long walks from the door and hardly used the car, lovely area.
"Well appointed house, in a great area gives a very good hoilday."
This house meets all your needs in comfort, and facilities.
"Great accomodation that served its purpose fantastically well."
1 adult x2 children. highly recommend
"Beautiful scenery and very quiet location, walking distance from pubs and the One Stop."
The house was very clean, kitchen very usable all the utensils etc you will need and the most awesome sofa with two reclining seats. We choose this location for walks, scenery, relaxing and fun - it ticked all the boxes. Thanks Sykes
"Comfortable, clean and safe in all ways"
"Had a lovely week at Basford View which met my three main criteria for cottages, clean, with comfortable bed & sofa."
Added bonuses are the views from the garden & the canal side Boat Inn within walking distance.
"Had a lovely stay which was an ideal location for work and for training."
Property was clean and well presented.
"Very clean house, well equipped, just big enough for family of two adults and two young children (3 and 7)."
Very close to Churnet Valley railway which our son loved! Children enjoyed playing in the garden, and loved the playground two minutes walk away. (Garden is on a slope and has some fairly steep stone steps, so toddlers would need supervision.) Rotary washing line outdoors under cover of the carport so always dry! Kitchen small but well equipped. If eating with young children, recommend either taking a floor cover or eating in the garden or carport as we did (garden furniture available) as only space to set up the fold-down dining table is in the carpeted lounge. Local shop about 10mins walk and well stocked with essentials.

This is a lovely, well-maintained semi-detached property, set in a quiet residential area of the little village of Cheddleton in Staffordshire.
Simply furnished throughout to offer welcoming accommodation, this holiday home is just the spot for small families or couples to enjoy this lovely part of Staffordshire.
With some countryside views from the first floor, the property also offers a well-equipped kitchen, and a cosy sitting room with gas fire to stay toasty warm after a day of exploration.
Outside is a very pretty rear garden with a patio, furniture and a raised lawn to enjoy an evening drink, and there is also a playing field and children's play area backing on to the rear of the property.
Cheddleton is a lovely village to explore, with the Churnet Valley Railway and some stunning walks and cycle trails taking you through the moorlands.
Just a short drive away is the market town of Leek, which offers a wide selection of shops, including fascinating antiques emporia, bookshops and galleries, along with a number of restaurants and real ale pubs.
A little further on is the fantastic Roaches, which is ideal for walking, climbing and mountain biking, or just as a place where you can admire and take in outstanding views and scenery.
Tittesworth Reservoir and visitor centre is just six miles away, and Alton Towers is also within driving distance.
This delightful holiday home is an excellent base for exploring all that Staffordshire has to offer.
About the location
Leek 3.5 miles; Stoke-on-Trent 9.2 miles; Alton 12 miles.
The lovely, traditional Staffordshire village of Cheddleton is situated in the Staffordshire Moorlands, near to the market town of Leek, with a handful of shops, pubs serving food and a lovely restaurant. Visit the nearby Churnet Valley Railway, originally opened in 1849, and now a lovely attraction for steam enthusiasts and families alike. The Cheddleton Flint Mill is a prime example of Staffordshire's industrial past, a flint-grinding watermill previously used for supplying the pottery industry further along the canal in Stoke-on-Trent. Nearby is Leek, surrounded by lovely moorland countryside. The town has a charming cobbled market place and many examples of fine Victorian architecture - a reminder of the town’s prosperity when it was renowned as a silk manufacturing centre. Today Leek offers a wide selection of shops including vast antique emporiums, bookshops and galleries and a good selection of restaurants and real ale pubs. Thrill seeking at Alton Towers which is easily accessible by car, a variety of walks, cycle routes, rock climbing on the Roaches and the area’s wealth of historic houses ensure visitors will be returning again and again!
