"The property was well equipped and very comfortable."
The under floor heating kept the cottage warm but loved he wood burner. The pub in the village does the best roast beef I have ever had.
Great to hear you had a lovely time. Property Owner
"Lovely place and brilliant facilities."
Paddock for dog walking an added bonus. Only thing that would have been handy would be a dish drainer for the kitchen draining board.
The paddock is there for the dogs to have a holiday as well as their owners. Thank you. Property Owner
"It was lovely and clean."
The beds had comfortable mattresses. The only slight issue was my tall husbands feet were uncomfortable due to the end of the bed having a foot rest (?). It was a lovely stay and we were very grateful for the essential you left for us ..and the option of a bottle of wine.
So happy that the stay met your needs, I can relate to having someone who is tall and trying to find a bed long enough for them! Hope to see you again soon. Property Owner
"We were very impressed with the overall stay at the cottage would recommend it ..."
We were very impressed with the overall stay at the cottage would recommend it just one thing the mattress was a bit to hard for us also could not get the cleaner of the wall so we could not clean the floor so sorry but we hope we left everything else okay
"We had a lovely stay here, coming up from the noise of London traffic waking you up, it made a pleasant change to hear sheep and cows instead, and much preferable."
We loved the lambs and calves in the fields. The pub at the end of the village served great food aswell, very good value for money with huge portions.
"Nice and quiet, great location and good we had off road parking."
However the down stairs flooring very stark which was not in harmony with a cottage. Otherwise we had everything we needed.
The living area has underfloor heating which best works without covering the stone flags. Property Owner
"Had a very comfortable stay ."
Lovely cottage extremely comfortable ,and perfectly situated for some lovely walks . No shops ,but you can get as many freshly laid free range eggs as you need , plus a fabulous pub serving great food . We will be back for longer next time
"First time using Sykes and first time booking a cottage."
Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be using again. Ideal location and cottage was brilliant, every detail had been thought about. Thank you
"Lovely clean cottage, owner very helpful with welcome basket of tea etc a nice touch."
Pub in village serves lovely food, pity no shop for papers or milk but supermarkets not too far. One ensuite has bath with hand shower (no curtain) not a problem for just 2 of us as could use other ensuite. No bike storage but back garden secure (have to take bikes through front door and cottage though) would def stay again as very close to walks and bike rides.
Happy to hear the rear garden met your needs for the bike storage. Property Owner
"This is a truly wonderful cottage in a beautifully stunning area."
Amenities aplenty. Gorgeous spa bath however not enough hot water to fill the bath enough to have jets on as I am only little so needed more water. Would definitely return.
"Really nice, every positive."
The only downside was small bedrooms.
"We had a fantastic stay at 3 Primitive Croft."
It was a very comfortable and clean place to stay. We loved the village it was in and the pub also. We met the owners of the cottage who were a lovely couple and gave lots of recommendations on where to visit. Now we are home I think we need a bigger T.V!! It was a pleasure to stay there. Thanks Ken
"Nice, cosy cottage, lounge big enough for 4 adults."
The tables which are already there are nice, but so heavy we couldn’t move them, so a smaller nest of tables and maybe a table lamp would be good. Great kitchen with every utensil. Front bedroom a wee bit tight for adults, good for kids though. Lovely bathroom with plenty of cupboard space, power showers in there and shower room would be good.
"Very good property in a convenient location for our walking holiday."
The cottage was clean and well kept and had all we needed for our stay. The owner and the property manager were very helpful with an issue we had during our stay.
"This cottage was ideal for 2 friends sharing as both rooms had an en-suit and eqal sized beds."
I have marked the accuracy of list down simply because in the photos it does not show any curtains at the window and my friend was concerned that there would only be net curtains. This was not so and the cottage was well furnished and we were very comfortable. The kitchen had plenty of cutlery, crockery and cooking equipment. It was warm and cozy and we both really enjoyed our stay .
"The property was lovely and warm on arrival and for the duration of the holiday."
We felt the kitchen was very small. Hard stone floors downstairs which obviously have not been washed in a while and no rug for dog despite being dog friendly. Shower room extremely small, with very little pressure not really fit for purpose. The larger bathroom had the jet bath why? Waste of valuable space. All in all it is a nice enough cottage in a good location but needs freshening up to make it more appealing.
"The cottage was warm and cosy (the wood burner isn't needed unless I guess there's a power cut), very comfortable, and had more than enough TVs!"
The huge jacuzzi bath can only be half full before hot water runs out though.
"Lovely Cottage lovely quant area."
Very nice village. Cottage is beautiful every thing you need there. It was spotless. Everything you need. Very good parking area. All in all very nice cottage. Will recommend to family and friends.
"Fine and well-equipped."
A bit soulless. Plastic grass. No plants. Minimal supplies ( thimble full of dishwashliquid, tiny bit of instant coffee). Scrappy sign letting us know we could buy a bottle of wine. 'Welcome pack' very basic. No rug on floor. No recycling of any sort despite the fact the rest of the village put bins out? But the cottage was warm, everything worked, lots of towels, beds comfy. Gorgeous countryside.
"A very nice dog exercise field sadly one guest allowed their large very aggressive dog loose which attacked our young spaniel and I was forced to fight the dog off."
We were very upset about this so did not use this field again which was disappointing.

The property was outstanding much more than we imagined it would be the best place we have stayed in for years can’t wait to come back
"This cottage was perfect for getting about and seeing the area ,and had everything you needed ,very comfortable."
The Church Inn pub in the village was superb , so much so that we ate there five nights . We always use Sykes cottages and once again we were not disappointed.
"Number of comms from sykes excessive"
"LOVELY COTTAGE I WOULD HIGHLY RECCOMEND."
"Amazing place for a relaxing, quiet time away from stress."
We would live there!! Great walks all directly from cottage and locals very welcoming. We self catered because of covid restrictions and took all food stuff with us...kitchen was very easy to cook in...we had tasty food and great wine. Bakewell and Buxton are not too far away if you want to buy food there; in fact we brought some lovely meat home from the butchers in Bakewell! This was the first time our little border collie had been away from our home and she settled immediately. She learnt the word meadow on her first day.what a bonus that is!
"This is a really Beautiful property with everything that you need for a nice relaxing stay."
Just up the road there is a lovely pub called the Church Inn, the food was excellent and the staff were extremely sociable and accommodating. The nearest shop is approx 4 miles away but with a bit of forward planning or a quick visit at the start of your stay this is not a problem at all. I would highly recommended this property.
"Loved every minute of our stay."
Only booked 4 days but wished we had booked longer. The cottage is spotlessly clean and can honestly say there was nothing we wanted. It was just far enough away from tourist spots. Loved the meadow that we had access to and would love to see it earlier in the year when the wild flowers are at their best. We will certainly be back and wouldn’t worry about the cold as it was so cosy. The off-street parking was ideal. Village so peaceful and friendly. We were with my daughter and her husband who are from London and they loved the peace and tranquillity of the cottage. We have stayed in many cottages before and this was the nicest we have ever stayed in.
"Lovely cottage and the under floor heating was a added bonus."
Very central to the sights we wanted to go and visit. Nice pub in the village with good food, but you need to book as it gets full very quickly, as with most pubs in the area. Only down side was it wasn’t until we got to the cottage and read the instructions in the book provided that dogs weren’t allowed upstairs, which proved a bit difficult with our anxious little dog.
"Very comfortable and nicely presented cottage."
Not sure on the one dog rule as don't see an issue having two smaller well behaved dogs. This would also encourage more booking no doubt. Only slight issues were: No black out curtains in main bedroom, as the sun is very bright in the morning. The mattress could have been a bit comfier. Would definitely recommend and would book again. Thanks,
"Very nice house , clean ,neat slot of attractions"
! issues with WiFi for some of the week but I knew that in advance so wasn’t a problem. the village itself is lovely, the cottage was very clean, beautifully presented and very comfortable. the paddock to walk the dog was a real bonus. I would re book in a heartbeat.
"The underfloor heating is set way too hot and there is no way to control it."
There is very little hot water, certainly not enough for a bath. The bath plug does not fit so the water drains away quickly. Despite reporting these things to the owner after the first night nothing was done to fix them despite her saying that she would send someone round.
"Could do with more equipment and basic items."
Seating had sweet papers and e cigarette down the side of them . Food crumbs in cutlery drawer. Could do with towel rail next to sink in bathroom. No foil, cling film or kitchen roll No chopping board No small bowls Saucers too small for cups Very difficult to park at front of cottage due to locals using it for extra parking, I was travelling with my 92 year old Mother so it would have been nice if I could have parked next to cottage . Had to come back early on the last day so that I would be able to park for packing the car the next day.
"The cottage was very nice indeed, we were very surprised to find that it was only three years old."
It was nice and cozy with the under floor heating and we were always comfortable say and night. Everything you need was there, nice large tv . the enclosed garden was great for our dog, and the paddock across the road is good for an early morning stroll. The only slight downside for us is that the bedrooms were a little on the small side. Chelmorton itself is a great place to stay if you like lots of good walks from your door, also the local pub the church inn is dog friendly and serves very good food. Also the large parking area at the rear of the cottage is very handy. We would stay here again.
"The cottage was lovely, very well equipped and decorated to a high standard, set in a peaceful, scenic location with a pub up the road, although with only staying two nights we didn’t manage to visit."
Loved the spa bath and log burner, and have never seen such a large tv. We walked around the meadow, very well laid out and the shorter walk was perfect for Mum. The owner was very helpful. Easy access to Buxton and beyond. Would definitely return.
"Very well located for our preferred area of exploration on this holiday."
I have only marked comfort slightly down as the bed wasn't to our particular preference but will probably suit the vast majority of guests. and we would have liked an airer for drying clothes being as there was a washing machine, ironing board and iron to do everything else with. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and were not put off by the lack of internet or phone signal either. I have given 'met expectations' as my previous experience with Sykes cottages has given me high expectations and this certainly met them. Thank you!
"Beautiful cottage in a lovely friendly village, The cottage had everything we ..."
Beautiful cottage in a lovely friendly village, The cottage had everything we could possibly need only drawback was no WiFi in the cottage and the phone signal is terrible made it difficult to communicate with family back home, Would highly recommend the cottage to others as was lovely and comfortable
"A lovely cozy cottage & on arrival a welcome pack with bread, milk , tea, coffee, biscuits & beans."
We had a very comfortable stay. You have a washing machine provided however no facilities to dry your clothes anywhere, a clothes airer or rotary line would be useful. No Wi-Fi or phone signal in the cottage didn't bother us too much as we walked up to very friendly pub 10 mins up the road who had Wi-Fi, also a good choice of food on the menu. Dogs are allowed in the bar area . I would happily book this cottage again.
"My husband and I needed a holiday to relax with our dog and this was ideal."
A few days away in a lovely clean cottage, with coffee and tea making goods on arrival. Walks from the doorstep, and the very wonderful added bonus of a large private hay meadow, with pathways cut into it to let the dog off lead and play ball. We went up Chelmorton low, a high mound at the edge of Chelmorton. We drove a short five minute drive to the wye valley car park with our own pack ups. This was where we took some beautiful scenic walks down by the river wye and had picnic lunches, taking a different walk each time. There is no WiFi or phone signal at the house, but we were able to find a phone signal and WiFi in the meadow, which has two park benches to sit and watch the world go by. We were in the meadow every day to let off the dog in the morning or evening. We went totally self catering and enjoyed it very much, however if that is not what you want, the local pub would be an excellent place to eat as other reviews have stated. It is just up the road a couple of minutes, with WiFi and walks from the door. We did not find a lack of signals a problem as we felt great being on top of the world in this beautiful area, so far above sea level. We would both recommend this to anyone who wants to relax and unwind properly.
"The cottage was listed as dog friendly but it was only after making the booking I found out the dogs were not allowed upstairs and not allowed on the sofas."
I only discovered on arrival that you couldn't leave the dogs alone in the cottage. So I didn't feel that they were actually dog friendly. There was no WiFi and virtually no cell phone reception in the village. This is mentioned in the cottage information when you arrived but not on the listing. Without WiFi or phone service it was impossible to communicate with friends and impossible to navigate around. There is a huge bath with power jets but there wasn't enough water in the tank to reach the power jets. The plug kept lifting so I ended up sitting in 2 inches of luke warm water. You have to stand up to switch on the water for the hand held shower head to rinse your hair after you've washed it and of course by this point the bath is very slippy. There are no hand rails to hold on to. So overall although the cottage looked great it was actually a very disappointing experience.
"We found the cottage very comfortable and warm although we would have liked a thermostat so we could turn down heating a little we also found the beds a little on the small side to what we are used to."
But the cottage was comfortable and an excellent base for a very nice break
"Excellent location in a quiet little village, Super host, and lovely to find it ..."
Excellent location in a quiet little village, Super host, and lovely to find it stocked with some provisions, just a shame there's no wifi
"Nice cottage in great location"
"Primitive Croft is a warm, cosy and well appointed cottage."
So warm, we didn't need to use the log fire, even in the depths of January. We liked the welcome pack that helped us settle in on the first evening. Minor irritants were the lack of any mobile signal on the O2 network and the bed mattress was a bit hard for our taste. But overall we enjoyed our stay there and after a hard days walking in the Derbyshire hills, it was good to come back to a warm house and settle down in front of the large tv screen.
"A lovely, clean cottage with good facilities, great for 4 people & a dog."
Good location, lovely walks from the cottage & not far to drive to Buxton or Bakewell. Welcoming hosts too. Would certainly book this cottage again.
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage."
The walking was great and we had unusually warm weather for October. The cottage facilities were excellent although the huge television did tend to dominate the sitting room and perhaps there were too many mirrors. The meals at the local pub were very good value and everyone we met was friendly. We're likely to book the cottage again.
"This is a beautiful contemporary cottage in a wonderful peaceful location."
We took our 8 month puppy and he enjoyed the walks in the owners private paddocks as well as walks in the stunning local area. We will definitely book again in the future and recommend to family and friends. Jo and Josh Parker
"Great cottage, everything you could need in it and more, secure garden perfect for the dog and the meadow was amazing, lovely village with great pub, ideal location for walks and attractions."
We had a lovely week.
"A beautiful cottage, ideally located for all of the Peak District."
Only slight drawback is no wifi. Not an issue for me, more of a disaster for my teenage son!
"Cottage lovely maybe more crockery would help."
Although washing machine is provided there is no facility to dry washing.
"Lovely cottage in lovely part of the Peak District!"
"What can I say."
What a charming little place Chelmorton is. The cottage was very clean, comfortable, welcoming and fulfilled our expectations. We stayed for 4 days in February and it was cold and very windy weather outside however the underfloor heating kept the cottage warm and cosy. The kitchen was well equipped. The welcome package was a very nice touch too. The beds were comfortable and both of the bathrooms were clean and warm, the jacuzzi bath was a great addition too. We loved watching the sunrise from our bedroom window. The information pack provided by the owners was informative and very detailed. The location suited us well as it was only few minutes by car to Buxton and Bakewell. There is also bus links operating in a village. There is a Inn just short walk from cottage and the food was home cooked and very tasty.
"This is the third different cottage we have stayed at in Chelmorton and it didn't disappoint."
The village is beautifully sited and the pub is superb. The cottage is very comfortable and modern and perfect for a getaway break.
"A really relaxing week in a lovely warm and cozy cottage Fantastic location ..."
A really relaxing week in a lovely warm and cozy cottage Fantastic location for exploring the Peak District The Church Inn up the road from the cottage has real ales and fantastic food
"Good location for pub only a few mins walk, food excellent ate there every night!"
dog friendly as well. local walks and Bakewell Monday market a must.. Welcome pack in the cottage a nice touch enjoyed the whirlpool bath!!! and had some lovely evenings enjoying the films the owners very kindly had in the cottage and of course the log burning fire. Lovely village very friendly people. All in all a wonderful relaxing holiday. Would certainly recommend.
"Lovely cottage in a lovely village."
Owners very friendly and helpful. We had some wet weather and a tumble dryer or washing line would be useful. For us a dishwasher would be more usefull than a freezer.
"Lovely owner who was very welcoming and even bought my daughter a happy birthday balloon !"
"We had a great time, Shame there was no wi fi."
Storm Doris stopped us going for a walk. We like to try different areas each holiday s
"Such a lovely place to stay!"
Easy to find, the owner was lovely and contactable at all times! The cottage is brand new and very modern! Loved it and will defiantly be going back!
