Tess and David's warm welcome and anticipation of our needs was perfect. The location of Greenacres Barn is superb for a peaceful getaway in the country, surrounded by beautiful nature and friendly locals. The Tavern pub in the village provided lovely meals and friendly chatter on the cool evenings and we had a wonderful break after such a long year of restrictions. The access to walks in the area was fantastic for our puppy too!

  • "We have just returned from a long weekend away at Greenacres Barn."

Upon arrival the cottage presented us with amazing views and a wonderful location. The hosts introduced themselves promptly and gave us plenty of information about the nearby walks. They were so welcoming and this included the lovely touch of fresh farm shop milk and a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge for us. The cottage itself was spacious, welcoming and cosy. Both bedrooms are spacious with plenty of light coming in and the beds were extremely comfy. The walls are 100 yards from your front door with easy access to Alton and Denstone on an assortment of trails. This trip was perfect, with the added bonus of our engagement. Cannot recommend this place enough, we will be back for a longer stay ☺️

  • "The Barn is lovely and a great base for a weekend away in this area with good walks straight from the property."

The local pub does great food and is in walking distance although having to get the dogs across the first cattle grid was a bit tricky. The Barn was clean and the utility room with a washer was a bonus and great for the dogs. Due to current restrictions the kitchen wasn't as well stocked with dishes and utensils as i think it normally would be but it was sufficient for our needs. The downstairs bedroom would have benefited from having some ventilation in there at night but it was ok. The space was great and the kitchen/dining area was just fab for 4 people and 2 dogs. The downstairs bathroom has a good bath but no shower/shower attachment so this made hair washing a bit tricky! The garden wasn't as enclosed as we expected and the caravan was quite close by but again this was fine. Overall I would recommend The Barn, the hosts were very friendly when we met them and it was ideal for a weekend away, we would stay there again if we go back to the area again.

  • "The owners were very welcoming even providing some milk and Prosecco on arrival."

We loved the spacious accommodation, the rural views from the cottage, the tree swings for the kids and the nearby walks. There were also friendly cows, cats and a dog who came to say hello frequently! It was really close to Alton Towers and also to some beautiful spots in the southern Peak District.

The property is bigger than it looks on the photos and big enough for 4 adults to have their own space for peace and quiet. It's a perfect base for surrounding towns, villages and walks from your doorstep. The garden and owners fields were perfect for our dog to stretch his legs in. The owners are lovely and very accommodating. The welcome wine and supply of milk was a nice touch. A perfect place to stay if you want to just stay put and relax and for those that like to get out and about. Accommodation was fantastic overall. Will definitely be returning.

The property was of a high standard and very comfortable. It's set in a lovely quiet, rural location where we could relax and enjoy some walking . The garden, though pleasant, wasn't really enclosed, so we couldn't let the dog loose to play in it.

it was spacious, comfortable, with good views from sitting room, an ideal location for easy walking it was attached to the owners house, but we hardly saw them. If you have pets with the warm utility room was perfect for dogs to sleep and for them to dry off after a walk. We hope to return and would not hesitate to recommend.

  • "The pictures of The Barn do not do it enough justice!"

We visited for a few days at the end of October and the log fire came in hand when the nights became quickly colder. There's a gate just outside the property leading you into a field which takes you to endless walking possibilities which our two dogs loved! I love the little room as you enter the property, this came especially handy to dry off the dogs before letting them into the rest of the house! Although the owners house is connected to The Barn you feel like you are completely separate, in fact I don't think we saw the owners apart from receiving the key and dropping it off! The only family member we saw was Dara the dog who was keen to introduce herself to our dogs haha! This place is absolutely perfect for a little getaway to escape from life and just completely sit back and relax! I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Staffordshire countryside!

Short walk to the village for local shop and excellent farm shop where you could stock up on those special little extras. Good location, walks from the doorstep and easy short drives to get to some excellent walking areas in the White Peak area. One to return to.

.. the only problem is that the windows doesn't have black out blinds (specially the veluxs) and it got real difficult to put our baby to sleep. The sofa bed also should be in the middle room. These are the only easy improvements that we think they should do. Otherwise everything was perfect. Very well equipped the house. We loved it!

The property

This spacious, semi-detached cottage is attached to the owner's home, on the edge of Denstone near Alton.

Built in the mid-19th century as part of the Alton Towers estate, this brick-built farmhouse retains the original beams and character, yet offers extremely light and spacious contemporary open plan living.

If you like your peace and tranquillity but don't want to be miles from anywhere, then this is the cottage for you.

There's a farm at the top of the track with an organic dairy herd, and it's these ladies who will more than likely be your neighbours during your stay as they graze in the lush green pastures right outside your door.

As you enter the cottage there's a warm place for the whole group, including the dogs, to dry off and park your boots.

Step through to the sitting room with a wood burner, which is a peaceful place to watch TV, then up a few steps to the open plan kitchen and dining area, and the ground-floor bedroom.

The well-equipped kitchen with tiled flooring has a large arched window with beautiful countryside views and the dining table can easily seat everyone in your party.

If you just fancy a bit of me time, there's tons of breathing space.

This abundance is repeated in the tastefully appointed first floor bedroom with an en-suite shower room, plus there is a second bedroom on the ground floor alongside a family bathroom.

With many attractions, eateries and inns close by, there's much to tempt you away, though you may choose to enjoy the fantastic views without leaving this lovely retreat.
