  • "Clean and tidy - dishwasher worked fine for us."

Wi-Fi is intermittent although the Smart TV seemed to have no problems. The hot water temperature upstairs varied a lot .It would run hot quickly and then scaldingly hot and then go cold. Quite dangerous in shower. Beware dog poo in the parking area. The local pub in the description is no longer a pub. This has happened to us three years running at different cottages.

The property needs TV and oven instructions. Also outside cushions and a small table would have been useful.

  • "Beautiful small property in a great location and the welcoming flowers were a lovely start to our holiday."

The photos and description on the website, must have been from some years ago, as there is no view from the outdoor balcony- now obscured by high level trees and bushes. The dishwasher, whilst it functioned and dishwasher tabs had been provided, was totally ineffective on any of the programs, and most dishes needed to be washed by hand afterwards. The WiFi was almost non existent throughout the property with the only decent signal being in the main bedroom. Very unfortunate, as despite not using my phone massively, I ended up having to purchase additional data from my provider. The above didn’t spoil any of the holiday and we even had some lovely weather.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear the dishwasher was not functioning correctly. We were not aware there was an issue with it. We will address this now we are aware of it. As stated on our welcome letter, it clearly says that the Wi-Fi only works in the front of the property. As regards the bushes and trees on the back of the property, we have had a very good growing season, and the bushes are due to be cut during the summer. The photos are exactly as the property looks apart from the trees at the back which naturally grow. We are very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Oakland Cottage. Property Owner

Very, very clean. Bed sheets fresh & crisp, comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable dining table with an incredible fresh flower arrangement in a vase -you really can’t stop admiring. Welcome cake was yummy! Thank you Jan! The cottage is very close to the hike routes in Shropshire Hills. Mobile signal and wifi were a little weak, though we managed to work around it. Overall, great place for a restful holiday! It is spacious, very clean and finished to the highest standard. There are lots of special touches such as the bone china country mugs. The bed was very comfortable and we were given lots of fluffy towels to use. I could move in tomorrow!! We appreciated the welcome flowers, cake and milk which was very kind of the friendly owner, Jan. We enjoyed days out at Bishop’s Castle and recommend the Castle Hotel there for excellent meals; Clun for the Caractacus gift shop and a walk up to the forest; Ludlow on a market day; Shrewsbury for a wander round the riverside and shopping; Stokesey Castle and Much Wenlock Abbey (both English Heritage sites) for an interesting look at local history; long walks at the Stiperstones, the Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge. We also enjoyed coffee and cake at Berry’s, down a side alley in Church Stretton and the Kaboodle gift shop there too. Our favourite place is the tearoom and craft shop visitor centre (closed on Mondays) at The Bog, near which you can park and walk up to the Stiperstones. We would love to return to Oakland Cottage for a future holiday.

Oakland Cottage is a beautifully-converted garage-turned-holiday-cottage, resting on the edge of the village of Diddlebury.

Hidden within the magnificent scenery of the Shropshire Hills, this attractive annexe provides the ideal base for families or groups of four, or two couples.

Open the door and step inside the welcoming ambiance of the pretty country kitchen where you will discover an abundance of handy appliances and useful utensils, that lie within the attractive white counters and stunning oak worktops.

Flick on the kettle and rustle up a light snack before grabbing a seat at the dinning table and catching up with friends as you plan out your adventures for the days to come.

Wander through to the homely sitting room and allow yourself to fall into the plush leather sofas as you warm yourself from the heat of the electric woodburning stove and search for a entertaining movie that all can enjoy.

Stay ahead of the game as you pop on a load of washing in the well-thought utility space and grab some ingredients from the spacious fridge/freezer, before cooking up a storm on the electric hob and serving up your delicious creation.

Retreat to the ground-floor bathroom where you can soak up the suds in a warm bath, or a refreshing shower should you fancy it.

You will also find a contemporary shower room on the first-floor with lovely chic interiors creating a tranquil environment where you can take your time to get ready in the morning.

There are two bedrooms available within the property, both of which are home to two zip/link beds that can be arranged into either a king-size bed or two singles for flexible sleeping arrangements.

Both bedrooms have been decorated with calming neutral tones, ample storage space and pretty accessories that really finish off the rooms.

Within the second of the bedrooms, discover patio doors that lead out onto a wonderful outdoor balcony with delightful outdoor furniture, great for enjoying a quiet night cap as you watch the sun set in the distance.

Spend the morning exploring the Shropshire Hills on a scenic walking route through the countryside or explore the grounds of Ludlow Castle before heading to the village of Acton Scott and discovering the charming Victorian Farm with live demonstrations of blacksmithing and wheelwrighting to truly get a feel of what it was like to work on a 19th-century farm.

For a marvellous holiday with friends and family, book a stay in Oakland Cottage.
