  • "The property was lovely, located brilliantly, nothing to complain about except should be more than one key."

  • "We had a very pleasant stay at The Lookout."

Came up from Nottingham to see a gig at the Picturedrome, which was in easy walking distance. Everything was easy to get to. The Lookout was very comfortable, lovely shower and beds. All in all an excellent stay. Just had a slight problem finding a wheelie bin to dispose of our rubbish. Got it sorted in the end. Thank you for your hospitality.

  • "Great location in the centre of Holmfirth ."

Accommodation well equipped and excellent quality . Issue with broken window but advised in advance and didn’t cause any inconvenience. Lots of car parks in Holmfirth and though they are chargeable , they are not expensive . Lots of lovely shops , bars and eateries

  • "I cannot stress this enough, there should be hand rails on the stairs."

THERE ARE NOT! I once did a back flip down the stairs between the first and second floors, striking my head on the door to the heater closet. The stairs horizontal length is short causing the heels of someone with large feet, such as myself, to have no support. I was fortunate to not suffer a more serious injury than I did. I have mentioned this before but no action has been taken. My wife and I practically crawl up the stairs. There is a high possibility for someone to be seriously injured on these stairs.

  • "Just had a week in this beautiful property."

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers loved it. Chloe contacted us before our stay to ask if we would like the beds to be made single rather than a double for the teens which was a great help. She also messaged us through our stay to check everything was ok. The amenities in the property were fabulous, comfortable beds and everything we needed in the kitchen was there. Shower/bath lovely and plenty of hot water. We always found parking up the road which was about a 5 minute walk so perfect. Thank you for a lovely time.

Thank you for your very kind review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to welcoming you again sometime. Thanks Property Owner

  • "The flat is comfortable, and decorated nicely."

However finding it was an issue, as there is no sign or number on the door and the parking situation is tricky with it being on a split double bend with double yellow lines so we had problems locating the flat and unloading when we arrived, it would be useful to be clear about the location on the advert. Also, advertising it as a cottage seems a little misleading. It is a flat with steep stairs from the front door to the lounge and kitchen and further steep stairs to the bedrooms. We would not have booked it had this been clear in the advert, my mother is 82 and disabled which made it really challenging for her. The 'balcony' area off the kitchen needs a good clean up, there were lots of wasps and it was slimy underfoot with lots of leaves. Not an area of any use really and there is no outside area for a dog despite it being a dog friendly property. However, the location is great - very central, and we were pleased with the double glazing as we could hardly hear the roads and wine bar next door. Could have used some microwavable dishes, and instructions for the microwave/grill thing and it was disappointing to find we were allocated three clothes hangers each, and no wardrobes or anywhere to hang towels. Lastly, this is the first place in 20 years where there was no welcome gift, but we got over that. Great place to explore Holmfirth and the surrounding Pennines and Peaks from but not ideal for dogs, elderly, or disabled people.

Many thanks for your feedback. The property is described as a duplex apartment over 2 floors so unsure why you thought otherwise. Parking for a property in VERY central Holmfirth can be a bit hard but you are able to pull up straight outside the takeaway and the cottage is across the road. We offer to pay for parking if you ask us. Regarding the “balcony” as you call it we don’t advertise it to have a garden as this is only a very very small yard area for people to use if they are having a cigarette. It isn’t classed as a garden. I have managed to tidy up all the leaves up there but due to a sycamore tree above it so it’s very difficult to keep it constantly tidy. There is all microwave dishes etc in the drawer underneath. Also the instructions are in the folder in the kitchen, We always put in flowers, milk and chocolates for your arrival. I will speak to housekeeping in case they didn’t do it when I was away. I hope you still had a lovely day and we hope to welcome you at one of our properties again soon. Thank you Property Owner

About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Batty’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
