  • "Warm and welcoming host, who was very helpful and accommodating."

We were warned about possible noise from the pub downstairs, from the entertainment, but this was a little louder than expected (but we did stay on New Year’s Eve, so it wasn’t a problem). Comfortable rooms and living area. Warm and clean. Near to shops/ pubs and restaurants.

  • "Perfect in every regard."

Clean and tidy with a welcome pack of breakfast goods and beverages. Kitchen has all mod cons including dishwasher. Only slight problem is the uneven floors - little unexpected steps in the hall corridor and into the bedrooms. But we got used to them.

  • "The property was wonderful and fit for purpose."

Yes it can be noisy from the road and pub below but we knew that when booking so did not put us off. I would suggest breakfast being available to eat at the pub in a morning and not something to order but this is minor and didn’t impact our stay. Lovely people and it really feels like a home from home. Towels and bedding provided, even break and milk. Would 100% stay again!

  • "Property was spacious and quite clean."

Very noisy with road noise from the front and pub noise out the back. Expected noise from pub but was surprised how busy the road was. Beds were quite lumpy. Nice touch having bread, milk, fruit on arrival. Had dinner in the pub on the first evening, very good food but the woman at the bar was extremely unfriendly, which left us feeling unwelcomed at the pub and the flat.

  • "Firstly I’d like to say that the quality of decorating and home furnishings was perfect and we loved that."

The bread, milk and basic provisions was also a lovely touch. Craig is a lovely bloke with great taste. My issue is that the listing said there was a smart tv in the lounge and there isn’t. The sofas were not fixed and so moved everytime we sat on them and need blankets as they’re cold. The showers were not good and I’ve seen previous comments saying the same. Low pressure and run hot and cold. My main issue though was the noise. It’s clear it’s above a pub so expect some noise of course but the listing highlights occasional singers which is when I expected the most noise to be. We had a singer on the Saturday night of our stay but she wasn’t an issue, the noise was 11am until midnight every day. Starts with the kitchen staff playing music and then runs all day and night, there’s also a lot of noise from the customers. We all had to sleep with ear plugs and air pods in. The noise was excessive. We had to come home a night early as we’d had enough. We did raise it several times with Craig but there’s not a lot he can do other than close the pub. I think the listing is misleading about the extent of the noise. I think we should have been offered a refund for leaving early at the very least.

  • "Ours was a midweek stay for two families with young children over half term."

Had some issues with noise into the early hours on the first couple of nights as you can hear the kitchen/staff in some parts of the flat, but this was dealt with extremely professionally by Craig and the place itself is overall well appointed (perhaps sound proofing aside). The flat is well equipped but the dining table is too small for 8 people. As other listings have said, parking is a little bit away from the access to the flat, but Craig helpfully let us park outside for loading and unloading the cars, so this didn't feel problematic. Lovely touches like the arrival hamper were extremely welcome. The pub was lovely, though quite quiet given it was midweek, we all enjoyed the food.

  • "Just a couple of things to improve: given that the property sleeps 8 people, it would be better to have seating for 8 in the sitting room and at the dining table."

Also, the showers were a bit weak. Otherwise, it was excellent.

Thanks for leaving your feedback. After checking with our plumber we have discovered we need a larger mains water inlet for the building, espcoially during the restaurant kitchen opening hours becasue of the higher deman. We are in the process ofarranging this. The pressure problems you have encountered should then be rectified - apologies for the inconvenience of this. We'll provide some additional seating for later parties too, thanks. Property Owner

As in the past owners did say they would look into we though would have been sorted by now, but sadly no The owner is very friendly and the bar/ restaurant is well worth a visit The music from pub did not bother us one bit and did stop at 11. This could be a perfect property just sort shower and 2 spaces on main car park

Apologies for the late response and for the water pressure issue which we have been trying to resolve. We have been able to use the overflow area by arrangement but appreciate there is currently no electricity supply. We will do our best to reserve a space for residents wherever possible. • "We had a lovely stay over Christmas at The Loft."

It is a large spacious apartment with everything you could possibly need. Decorated and furnished to a really high standard. Only gripe was the shower in the en-suite ran hot and cold but this has been mentioned in previous reviews. We had two cars and managed to park even though it was Christmas. Also mentioned in other reviews music is rather loud when entertainment is in the pub although it didn’t bother us. Can also thoroughly recommend the food in the pub it is fabulous. Also the owner of The Loft is a very nice guy and very accommodating. He couldn’t be more helpful.

The apartment was very comfortable and clean with all the amenities that you need. The welcome basket of bread and milk etc was a lovely touch. It's a great location with a short drive to other places to visit. We had no problems parking our 2 cars in the pub car park. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that you can hear the music in the pub below playing till midnight every night. I would definitely recommend to friends and family

In the listing of the property it says there is allocated parking for the property when there isn’t, there is a car park for the pub but no allocated spaces which did mean we had to park in the overflow car park which was ok but not ideal

  • "We had a great stay at The loft at the George!"

Craig and Mark we very welcoming, on hand if we every needed anything!! And for providing basic essentials for our stay was a lovely gesture, thank you! The property was just as described beautiful, clean, felt new and it had everything we needed! Was like a home from home! The ensuite shower would run cold when water was used elsewhere in the property, but a minor inconvenience. The furniture was good quality, and looked amazing. The apartment was surprisingly really spacious, and relatively quite considering it was above a pub, of course you could hear the sound of voices, but not at all intrusive. Probably would be helpful if the property could resever a parking space for guests of The loft, although ample parking was available not too far away, just didn't feel safe! In all we had a lovely stay and we would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Clay Cross to stay at The loft at the George! Thank you

Hi thanks so much for your comments, they are appreciated. We are trying to see what we can do about parking space but are a little restricted at the moment. Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Property Owner

About the location

CLAY CROSS

Chesterfield 5 miles; Matlock 7 miles.

Clay Cross is a small town on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The town is home to a varied range of shops, pubs and excellent restaurants. Just a few miles away is the historic market town of Chesterfield which acts as the gateway to the Peak District, and has much to offer visitors. The town is famous for its 14th Century church with "Crooked Spire", twisting curiously from its true centre, while the frequent bustling market days are ideal for exploring the many different specialist shops and stalls which line the old Market Hall and charming Shambles beyond. The town also boasts Queens Park, with its boating lake, walks and summer bandstand, as well as a museum and theatre. Nearby, the Elizabethan Hardwick Hall is still impressive today, with its 6 grand towers elaborately monogramed with Bess of Hardwick’s initials, overlooking the superb gardens and walled courtyards of the grounds. Also popular is the semi-ruined 17th Century mansion of Bolsover Castle, set high on a wooded hilltop, looking west towards the heights of the Peak District. The area has a host of other attractions within easy reach, such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, the amenities of Matlock and Bakewell, or the Opera House at Buxton. An interesting base for a varied break.
