"Excellent barn accommodation maintained to a high level."
Everything was perfect- warm (-2 degrees outside) comfortable, magnificent views, amazing window in living room looking over the fields and owner living next door should assistance be required. This was a perfect week - walking to pub across the fields (10 minutes), Castleton (30 minute easy drive), Edale (30 minute easy drive) all provided excellent walks. Of course some days we walked from the barn and left the car due to the excellent location. Highly recommended.
"Gorgeous bolt hole."
Well equipped, clean and neat. Could just do with a bigger sofa! We'll be back.
"This was a unique and amazing stay for us and we so appreciated the extras you provided."
We loved the way the barn had been renovated, especially the shower room and underfloor heating. The Church Inn nearby was our idea of the perfect traditional pub. Thank you for a memorable birthday week!
"Great place to stay & views are fantastic."
Inside is very nice and spacious. Bathroom is great. Take flip flop or slippers as flooring is nice stone slabs. Great place to escape to for a chill out week but I was working. Next time will be spring or summer with wine & books. Could have sat outside for hours watching the animals and views. Still got a phone signal which was disappointing and lots of TV channels so hardly off grid! Honestly, I could live in that fully fitted very comfortable barn…….
"The cottage was idyllic and it is a 10 out of 10 from us."
We loved it. It was clean, had everthing we needed and it suited us very well. The range of goodies left for our arrival was excellent too. We cannot fault the property or it's owners. The only possible downside for some - although we loved it - could be it's remoteness, high in the Derbyshire peaks. Not for anyone who wants to be in or very near a built up area. It was, however, easy to get to shops and places of interest. The local pub, serving a good range of ales and food, is about a mile away, either by road or along footpaths. The views and scenery from the cottage are outstanding and we're hoping to make a return visit in the future.
"We previously stayed here in November last year and loved the cottage."
So relaxing so we booked again for this year it is really lovely and so relaxing.
"What a wonderful week we had at Five Wells Barn."
Beautiful cottage, beautiful scenery and Mark & Caroline are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. This was our second visit, would recommend!
"Lovely property, but needs the lounge chairs replaced, they have had their day No hairdryer or toaster"
"Thank you to Caroline and Mark for a lovely stay at Five Wells barn and all the goodies provided on our arrival."
We very much enjoyed the holiday accommodation, situation, sheep and little lambs.
"We had a wonderful stay at Five Wells Barn!"
Perfectly and thoughtfully presented throughout with a stunning location. We could not have asked for more and loved every minute. The lovely welcome gifts were a nice touch too. Two pubs within walking distance and miles of trails right on the doorstep. A true gem in the Peak District.
"We spent a lovely long weekend at this comfortable cottage."
It was perfectly placed for us as we parked the car on arrival and walked from the door every day. The owners were really friendly and left lots of lovely goodies for our arrival. The local pub in Chelmorton was about a 15 minute walk (even in the dark!) and the food and ale were very good.
"Our second visit was just as memorable as the first!"
We enjoyed our cosy new year visit last year so much we decided to return and the cottage, along with Mark and Caroline's lovely hospitality, didn't disappoint! A super location for exploring the beautiful Peak District whatever the weather.
"Had a lovely week-long break at Five Wells farm with our two month old baby."
The property is super cosy, with underfloor heating and a log burning stove. Peaceful location on the farm and amazing scenery all around. The property has been converted to a very high standard. Mark and Caroline made us feel so welcome, from the provisions left out for us on arrival, to visiting around the animals with our son. A really relaxing break, which we didn’t want to end. Thoroughly recommended.
"Everything (apart from the weather) was perfect."
The cottage was spotless and everything of a good quality. Mark and Caroline were excellent hosts. Would definitely like to visit again.
"Beautiful property with stunning views."

"Our stay at Five Wells Barn was both fantastic and memorable."
Beautiful walks straight from the doorstep and a beautiful accomodation to return to after our days out walking and exploring. Perfect comfort! Great views and everything needed provided in this lovely property. Throw in a great local pub with fine local ales and food a ten minute walk away and you have everything you need. Thank you Mark and Caroline for providing such an amazing stay with such a beautiful accomodation.
"The cottage is really lovely."
It was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed, (except a hairdryer, which wasn't the end of the world. I normally take my own but didn't this time!) The owners are very friendly and helpful and left a very useful welcome pack of milk, butter, cheese, bread, croissants and tea and coffee. The views are spectacular through the huge window and the animals very entertaining. We would happily stay here again
"Lovely barn conversion; so comfortable in a beautiful setting with amazing views."
Perfect location. Mark and his wife were so friendly and helpful. Welcome pack was very thoughtful. Thank you for a great stay, we could have stayed longer!
"A perfect cottage for two with amazing views and under floor heating, an ideal base to explore beautiful Derbyshire."
Mark, the owner, was very friendly and helpful.
"We loved the location and comfort of the property."
We really appreciated the lovely food which the owners had left as a welcome gift. The holiday was all we had hoped for, snow included! Just one suggestion, we would have appreciated having a toaster and a bigger cafetierre!
"Fabulous location, truly isolated but on a working farm so the hosts were nearby if needed."
Mark and Caroline were so welcoming and friendly and provided a lovely food parcel for our arrival. Plenty of walking nearby and a pub about a km away down (but up on the way back!) a footpath. Great views all round, simply perfect for us.
"My wife and I had a lovely week staying at the cottage."
We loved seeing the animals, sunrises, sunsets, rainbows and stars. The cottage is very cosy and the log-burner is great. The location is really interesting and it was an excellent base for our walks, town visits and the stroll to the local pub. Thanks!
"What a find!"
We absolutely loved our stay at Five Wells barn. With stunning views, a superb welcome hamper, local walks and a cosy fireplace, we had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The cottage is well equipped and the the farm animals next door are a delight to say hello to. Communication with Mark was straight forward and he was on hand in case we needed anything. A definite recommendation for a romantic and peaceful getaway.

"Friendly owners available if needed, unexpected food basics provided."
Wonderful views and footpaths from the door of this cosy barn - great base to explore this beautiful part of the country on foot or by car. Short walk across fields to great local pub in Chelmorton ( uphill climb back!) Hope to return.
"We wanted a peaceful getaway and Five Wells Barn was perfect."
The barn is beautifully decorated with a very comfortable bed and underfloor heating adding to the comfort. The picture window looks out over the fields, Spirit the horse and the donkeys kept us entertained. The farm is run by Mark and Caroline who were very welcoming; the bread, milk, cheese, butter and croissants were a lovely touch. We will definitely be returning, it’s our new favourite!
"The cottage was perfect."
The owners were lovely and we felt very welcome on the farm. The views from the cottage were amazing. Even though the weather was hurricane we managed to go for walks enjoying the loving area of the Peak District. The local pub which was walking distance to the cottage (although in the winter this would be across muddy fields) was very welcoming and the food was amazing. We cannot fault this cottage and would love to return again in the coming years.
"Fabulous. A cosy well appointed barn with everything you need."
An amazing welcome pack - unexpected but very much appreciated. The barn is in a great location and is a great base for walking holidays. Views from the cottage spectacular ( even in bad weather!) The hosts very friendly and helpful. Thank you for the extra logs for the wood burner! We would definitely recommend this holiday cottage and we hope to get back for another visit.
"Lovely warm and cosy retreat with wonderful views and everything we needed to relax and enjoy our stay."
The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and provided a much appreciated welcome pack, including logs for the wood burner. Very peaceful and away from it all with amazing scenery and lovely walks all around. Good pub in the village. Cottage is ideally located to explore the entire Peak District, and we would definitely stay there again.
"We had a lovely week, even the weather was good to us."
the cottage is a lovely little gem in a lovely setting. The owners, Mark and Caroline, were very welcoming and we were especially happy with the welcome pack. One of the nicest we've had. Loved meeting Spirit the horse, I even bought some carrots to give him every day. We will definitely be back, stunning area too!
"As this was our second visit it was like a home from home, great hosts, warm welcome, lovely cottage."
"Five Wells Barn, in its lovely location, provided everything we needed for a peaceful break."
It was everything we had hoped for, cosy and comfortable and an excellent base for our walking holiday. Thanks to Caroline and Mark for their great hospitality. We hope to return!
"Wonderful location to get away from it all."
Very quiet. Really fun to watch all the animals on the farm (and feed Spirit, the horse!). Caroline and Mark (the owners) are lovely people - Really friendly and helpful in local recommendations. We'd 100% stay again!
"Surrounded by beautiful countryside and hosted by very genuine, pleasant family."
Mark and Caroline were good hosts, on hand if needed but not intrusive.
"Thank you for a lovely break away, the barn is beautifully presented and the finishing touches (basics in the fridge, handmade soaps etc) made our stay more enjoyable."
The barn is in a great location for enjoying the animals on the farm and great walks to a couple of pubs. We would love to stay again!
"Mark was very helpful and very polite and made our stay memorable"
"This beautiful area of Derbyshire was rejuvenating, peaceful & pastoral."
Mark & Caroline welcomed us to their lovely farm we felt cosy & part of the place immediately. Despite the wet & windy weather there was a lot going for this week away. Nearby Dovedale walks, visiting Buxton museum and great art exhibition. Don't fail to have lunch in Dubbing Good Food in Buxton fab menu and choices. The Source cafe is friendly, excellent coffee & cake. Definitely would return to Five Wells Barn.
"We had a lovely stay in Five Wells Barn."
Mark and Caroline were extremely friendly and helpful and left us some food essentials for our stay which was a nice touch. The cottage itself was very cosy and homely- great for a secluded break. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway. We will be returning in the future!
"A real 'Escape to the Country'!"
We had a most enjoyable 3 night stay at Five Wells Barn. Such a friendly welcome and the smiles continued throughout our stay; we both already miss the views, the clean air, the very long walks and the cosy barn. We will definitely be back! Thank you to Mark and Caroline.
"The barn was amazing, perfect location and set up for a get away to the countryside."
Great walks from the doorstep or short drive away. The hosts were fantastic and super helpful. Would recommend this place to anyone!
"We enjoyed a fantastic Christmas week at Fivewells Barn."
The owners made us feel very welcome and had even gone to the trouble of adding some Christmas decorations for us. Also the gifts that had been left for us on arrival were a very kind thought. The cottage itself is perfect for two people and is very comfortable. We enjoyed lighting the log burner although it is very efficient and with the underfloor heating aswell we were more than cosy. The views around, even in the winter, are breathtaking and provides a real feeling of space. The location itself was perfect for us as we took our electric bikes and were able to make use of the Monsal, Tissington and High Peak Trails as well as the other quiet roads in the area. We would recommend this accommodation without hesitation and certainly hope that we can return for another visit.
"What a fabulous break in a perfect cottage!"
A deceptive exterior hides a luxurious and very well presented interior. With a number of walks on your doorstep this was a fantastic and memorable break. Would highly recommend.
"From start to finish we loved our time at Five Wells."
Mark and Caroline were so welcoming and friendly. The cottage is really well equipped and serves as an ideal bolt hole after a long day of walking - the log burner is a particular treat. We loved waking up each morning and enjoying breakfast with such a glorious view, not to mention the added bonus of watching the sheep out in the fields. We had a lovely stay and can’t wait to book again.
"Looked after from arrival to departure, by owners Mark and Caroline,They were friendly and very helpful,."
The cottage itself was excellent both in comfort and seclusion, wonderful views from picture window and great for stargazing.location is ideal as it is equidistant from Buxton and Bakewell. Go ahead and book it,you won’t be disappointed.
"Five Wells barn was just perfect for us, we didn't want to leave!"
Waking up to the views from every window and being greeted by the animals every morning was just wonderful. The barn itself was exactly what I would have chosen if I'd have designed and decorated it myself! Mark and Caroline have done an amazing job and a very warm welcome is waiting for anyone who chooses to stay here. We will definitely be back here ☺
"You could not meet a nicer pair of hosts, brilliant welcome pack, some other holiday cottages need to learn from them, being a country person myself the farm and barn were great, loved the area walked miles everyday, great local pub just as welcoming, all in all brilliant, one regret we did,nt thank them in person when we left, would return tomorrow."
Thanks jimmy & hilary james.ps loved the horse.
"They owners were very friendly and helpful with delightful family and made us vey welcome."
Kindly left provisions in the fridge for our arrival. Gave good advice with local knowledge of places to visit. Mark had demonstrated his dry stone wallng all around. Views were magnificent with horse, sheep, chickens and goats & donkeys next door. Horse - an old lady of 22 - showed passion for carrots and came looking for them evenings and mornings. It is an excellent location to visit a good number of National Trust Properties and Chatsworth is just down the road. Hardwick is a must! The High Peaks are astounding - a must drive round - even if not walking. The nearby friendly village of Chelmorton has a superb pub, The Church Inn, which serves the best quality pup grub is well worth some visits. We were lucky to visit during Festival week and attended a concert by the Burbage Band - a real treat. Would highly recommend. Derbyshire is a real gem of a county.
"No view from the terrace,( stone walls to high when you are sitting."
). Spent two lovely 2 weeks at the barn in the middle of nowhere far away from the hectic life, just an endless view and sheep and other animals around the barn. Inside is easy and comfortable with everything you need. As it is all on the ground floor it is ideal for the elderly. A lovely couple owns the barn and are always prepared to help in any way. You should no miss this.
"The cottage was set on a working farm in idyllic Peak District countryside."
Our hosts were very welcoming and even left some provisions to start us off on our three night stay. Wonderful views from the big window as well as watching the sheep, chickens and a horse come right up to the window. The cottage was very cosy and well equipped. A local pub is just 20 minutes walk away across a bridle path. So many areas to explore that provide fantastic scenery and great walks. Bakewell is just 15 minutes drive away with lots of bakeries selling the traditional tarts and puddings. Will definitely have to come back again and stay longer next time.
"First time in the peak district and found the five well barn, and was very lucky to pay for a extra night, very nice cottage with everything you need, and wonderful views from the long window which we sat a lot of the time."
watching the sheep and donkeys and the horse which was great. we enjoyed going to few places specially chatsworth house, and castleton. either went to blue john caves never been down under ground before specially 350 ft down. weather was great it was just right heat for us. lovely views from hope valley. good time.
"Dont go there we want it all for ourselves."
But that's being greedy. The place is fabulous with views to die for. We were greeted by the owner and given a full run down of the property and points of interest about which included the local pub which is about a 20 minute walk away across country its the church inn and its well worth a visit mind you its more like 40 minutes coming back LOL. The barn conversion is very well done and has all the facilities you could want and very warm. WE WILL BE GOING BACK oh and you are surrounded with sheep and chickens and a horse and donkeys.
"Amazing accomodation, warm and cosy with outstanding views."
It was fantastic having the various farm animals on the doorstep. Caroline and Mark gave us a warm welcome and the complementary food was greatly appreciated after our long journey. Our daily walks were blessed with outstanding views and fantastic bank holiday weather. This cottage is ideally situated for exploring the Peak District. Would highly recommend.
"We had such a lovely little break."
The barn was amazing & Caroline was so welcoming and friendly! We'll definitely be back! :) Hannah & Matt X
"We had a lovely holiday."
Fantastic walking from the door, beautiful converted farm building, great log burner and wonderful views. Beautifully furnished and very cosy. Mark and Carolyn were wonderful hosts making sure we had everything we needed, including fresh eggs from their hens and extra logs for the burner. Can't wait to go back!
"The perfect getaway!"
We booked Five Wells as we were getting married just up the road at Haddon Hall. My wife stayed at the cottage on the Friday night before getting ready for the wedding Saturday and I joined her for the remainder of her stay. The cottage was more than we could of asked for. The hosts were excellent in ensuring we had a perfect honeymoon, even leaving a wedding gift by the door for our return from the ceremony, a lovely touch. We will most certainly be returning in the future. A must stay for an couple looking to escape the hustle and bustle.
"A beautifully converted barn in a peaceful setting with a cozy log fire and underfloor heating , we arrived to a lovely welcome pack and a very warm welcome from Mark and the chickens !"
A great place for a relaxing weekend, or there are good walks if you want to be more active, we would highly recommend it. Thank you
"Lovely cottage very cosy and no clutter of crockery and ornaments and it was very clean and tidy."
However a toaster would have been useful as it was a bit inconvenient to have to use the grill in the oven. Also, there wasn't a plug for a hairdryer near the mirror in the bedroom. Although we were aware of the long lane leading to the cottage, a sign pointing you in the right direction would have been very useful as getting to the cottage between farm and buildings was belwildering and the lane was very very muddy with potholes.
"The cottage was in a lovely spot in the countryside with good footpaths very near."
The owners, who live on the farm, were very hospitable and friendly. We had a lovely week in a very nicely converted barn.
A very good welcome pack was awaiting our arrival.
"The cottage exceeded our expectations."
The owners were very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them.
"We had an amazing time!"
The place is just a perfect get away for two people, very comfy, cosy and romantic. Although we came in the snow and we're able to use the log burner which was gorgeous I'm sure it's a lovely place to be in all seasons! The views were amazing over the rolling hills and it's well located for walks and local villages. The hosts were perfect too - so generous with providing logs for the fire and essentials we needed but also left us in complete privacy! A proper luxury property, completely clean and cozy :) will definitely recommend to others!
"The barn is positioned at the side of the working farm in a private position."
It has superb views from the windows. Inside it is beautifully decorated with luxury touches such as White Company bedding on a comfortable double bed. The decor is rustic and comforting. Even though we arrived in snow ( which made everywhere look very pretty), we were warm with underfloor heating and an efficient wood burner. I have never had such a generous amount of provisions left us- coffee, tea, milk, bread, eggs, butter, cheese, tomatoes,a whole tin of chocolate biscuits as well as a bottle of Prosecco!!! We were well looked after by the owner too who answered any questions we had. There is a lovely pub a short distance away you can walk to, although we drove due to the snow. Buxton is only about 4 miles away. There are some interesting gift and boutique type shops within the old swimming baths that have been converted. ( You can still see the tiles on the walls and the glass ceilings) We explored the area easily taking in Bakewell and spectacular Chatsworth. A wonderful romantic place to escape to and recharge your batteries!
"Lovely stay in the snow."
We were a bit worried about getting snowed in or not reaching the cottage but the hosts help make sure we got there safely. Even if we did we were supplied with wood and food to make sure we would do it in comfort.
"Five Wells Barn is a real gem."
Just remote enough, but within easy access to all the local walks and attractions. Plus, Mark and Caroline couldn't do enough to make our stay relaxing.
"Mark and Caroline were really kind and welcoming; the Cottage was perfect for a short break for a couple and we would definitely recommend."
