  • "Excellent. The only problem was the main oven not working although there was an aga."

Otherwise this was a great location for a special occasion family get together. The ability to host a birthday dinner party for twelve with matching crockery glasses and cutlery (with a caterer recommended by the owners) was exactly as we hoped for. The completely wall enclosed garden was a real benefit for letting our energetic puppy run free.

  • "I booked Winster Hall for all my family to join me on a special Birthday."

The Hall was trimmed up for Christmas which was a bonus. We loved the space, everyone got a lovely bedroom. We lit the fire in the Dinning room and had a wonderful meal, played games in the Lounge. The weather was awful and got soaked visiting Buxton and Haddon Hall but there is plenty to do in the area. We really liked Winster village and went to both pubs. Had a meal at the Miners Standard it was just ok. Thank you for the lovely welcome basket. Jane

Thank you for your lovely feedback. I thrilled that you enjoyed your time at Winster Hall for your birthday and managed to explore the surrounding area despite the weather. Winster is a beautiful village, and we are very proud to be a part of it. Hopefully you can come again in summer and sample events like the Wakes or Secret Gardens, plus take advantage of our garden and summer house. Property Owner

The welcome hamper has all the basics needed to start the week. It has a full set of the necessary kitchen utensils and some to spare. The bedrooms are comfortable and the showers work well. The setting is excellent for all the main towns and visitor spots and for some great walks out of the front door. The communications from the housekeeping team are really useful and help with the stay. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your great feedback. The team are all very happy that your group enjoyed half term with us. You are absolutely right; we are very spoilt by our setting in the middle of Winster and the walks we have right from the front door plus the volunteer run shop is one of the best resources we have in the village. We hope you will all come and stay with us again. Property Owner

  • "We loved the property."

Its location was excellent, it felt clean and warm and there was nothing that it lacked in terms of equipment. We had to think hard to offer anything that we thought could improve it. However, not being able to use the open fire in the lounge was a shame and a shower attachment to the bathtaps in Haddon's en suite would have been helpful. As I said, both very minor points. I was also very pleasantly surprised by the welcome basket upon arrival. We would definitely recommend.

Thank you for giving us such lovely feedback, I hope the birthday celebrations were enjoyed by all. Thank you also for your suggestions, something the team will consider as we always appreciate ideas for how we can improve. We would love to welcome you back to Winster Hall soon. Property Owner

The parking was a bit tricky at the front but I suppose the gated entrance is covered by the grade 2 listing.

I'm thrilled that you enjoyed your holiday. You are right thinking that the gates are part of the listing and character of the building. For larger vehicles it can be more convenient to park on our drive to the side of the building or on the road which is unrestricted. I hope you will come and visit us again. Property Owner

  • "Excellent property only thing we missed was a wine cooler which would have been useful and possibly some tin foil."

Loved the idea of entering the property to the sound of Radio 3. Just one suggestion and that in Hartington with such a good shower the water tends to go over the shower lip and over the bathroom floor which either means the lip is not high enough or the outflow of water is too slow.

Thank you for your comments. Following your suggestion, a wine rack has been added to the fridge. We appreciated knowing about small maintenance issues before they can turn into large ones so thank you for letting us know about the shower. It’s good to know that we are getting things about right for our guests. Property Owner

The walled garden was a great boon and would have been even better if the weather was kinder to us. There was plenty of space so we didn't get on top of each other. The beds were comfortable and the rooms attractive. The welcome hamper was filled with local products and much appreciated. The area was full of lovely walks and attractions. It was a very cold week but the house was kept at a comfortable temperature so it was extremely cosy. The kitchen was superb with the Aga providing extra heating and cooking. • "We all really enjoyed our stay in Winster ."

However, we had two showers leak and one wash basin ( all uncovered immediately on usage), I cannot believe this wasn't picked up by other tenants ? We also had the electricity in the dining room and kitchen lights trip on three occasions ? No tool box . TV's are very outdated and not SMART only one with HDMI which I had to buy. Conservatory needs a good fan ( which we brought ) for the winter months as there is no heating in this room.

Thank you for your feedback, I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. One of the showers reported was completely refitted just before your stay and so believe me when I say we are both disappointed and frustrated. Please be assured that this will be addressed. The other shower reported has leaked occasionally, usually when the door hasn’t been closed properly, but this has not been reported by other guests for some time. Thank you for letting us know about the electrical fault, we would not expect guests to use tools on any of our electrical circuits and if it had continued our property manager would have come out to try and solve the problem. Fortunately though we understand the fault did not persist once you had spoken to him. Please be assured that all circuits and appliances at Winster Hall are tested in accordance with all relevant regulations. Regarding the TVs, I did reply to an email from Sykes on the 18th October explaining that we do not have smart TVs at the property and therefore Chromecast or other devices should be brought if needed. I am sorry if our reply did not reach you. We do have a central heating radiator in the conservatory. If we had known it had been turned down, we could have provided instructions on how to turn up the heat. Once again thank you for reporting the issues you have experienced which we rely upon to focus our ongoing maintenance and efforts to achieve the best possible guest experience. Property Owner

Very picturesque village. With a some adaptions the downstairs bedroom and downstairs bathroom could be made wheelchair friendly which would be really beneficial to the house I think.

  • "We had an amazing stay at Winster Hall."

Wow what a find, the property is beautiful, extremely well kept and fitted out, it catered for all our needs. We had a family gathering, 17 of us in total ranging in age from 1 to 75, for a special occasion and we all had a great time. The rooms are perfect well presented and clean, the beautiful dining room seated us all at the amazing long table, the kitchen is very well equipped and we had no problem catering for such a large family. The sitting room on the first floor is large and comfy with plenty of seating and room for all to enjoy time in it. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone and would be delighted to stay there again in the future and would love to be able to spend time in the lovely outdoor space and enclosed garden at a warmer time of year. Thank you to all your team for an easy booking and for the lovely welcome cake and bottle it was a lovely touch Kind Regards Su Battye

  • "Property exceeded our expectations on standard of cleanliness, layout and equipment."

The management had left welcome gifts for us which was much appreciated. There were 15 close family members staying and everyone enjoyed their stay. Communications from the management of the property were good and they were very helpful over our particular bed arrangements and with questions that we had raised. Our group were celebrating a special family birthday and I think we did really well with Winster Hall as our choice.

  • "Winster Hall blew us all away."

It is beautifully decorated and is full of lovely little touches that really go above and beyond. We were staying for a weekend celebration, and every single member of our party said they didn't want to leave. It is so spacious, we were joking that we were going to put bells on each other so we could find people, as we kept losing members of the party to the sumptuous bedrooms! The views are breathtaking, perfect if you want to sit, wrapped up, looking at the view whilst reading a book. The location is fantastic, you can wander to the local pubs, or go for a countryside walk with your four legged friend or go for a short drive to the local market towns such as Matlock or Bakewell. I really tried hard to think of something that could improve the property, the only thing I could think of was some DVD's to watch all together, only to be informed by my friend that there are some in the living room, I just hadn't looked in the most obvious place, under the TV! We all loved Winster Hall, and hope to return at some point.

  • "This was a wonderful venue for my 60th birthday."

Winster Hall was the central house in the village of Winster and it was very useful to have a community run village shop a couple of doors away. There was so much to do in the area and lovely walks around the village itself. Our age range was 70 years down to two and there were activities that suited us all. The house itself was so comfortable and spacious with a lovely garden. We could not have had a better place to stay. I would love to book another holiday like this but would I ever find somewhere to equal it?

Set over three floors, the Hall stands back from the main street behind the original stone-built gateway.

Providing spacious accommodation, the ground floor offers a spacious dining room with a cosy sitting area with a large wood burning stove and a beautiful hand-painted ceiling.

The wide, elegant staircase leads to the first floor, where there are two spacious bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms and one with a romantic four poster bed.

The wonderful first floor sitting room is one of the real jewels in the crown; with feature windows on two sides providing a bright and spacious feel, as well as interesting views of the main high street, it provides a perfect space to relax and unwind, enjoy a family film or get out the board games.

The top floor of this wonderful Derbyshire holiday home boasts a further four bedrooms, including a stunning master bedroom with king-size four poster bed.

About the location

WINSTER

Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
