  • "A well equipped holiday property with everything you need for your comfort, lovely outdoor space over-looking the river, with a covered porch area so you can still sit outside even when the weather isn't playing."

ball. Close to the pubs and shops and walks from the doorstep. Lovely seeing the kingfishers, the window seat in the upstairs bedroom gives you the best view of these rarely seen birds!

So glad you enjoyed yourself. We appreciate that you had a good time. Dulverton is a totally unspoilt town with everything you could wish. The riverside location is a lovely spot to chill out. Many thanks for your kind comments. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage."

Clean, tidy and everything you need for weeks holiday. Some observations: The cookery knives in the kitchen drawer were as blunt as a butter knife. A sharpen would not go amiss. Not having on-site parking was a little inconvenient but saying that, most evenings we managed to find somewhere a short walk away. We could not find a hoover to give the floors a once over. The bath towels were a little small for those of us above average size. Otherwise a lovely place to base ourselves for the week.

  • "Nice property however listed as 6 berth."

6 adult would be cramped in living quarters. Table only seats 4. Upstairs carpet needs replacing evidence of moths.

There are 4 lounge chairs + a 2 seater sofa. 4 + 2 = 6. There are 6 dining chairs. 4 around the table and an extra 2 in the lobby. There are often parties of 6 staying and we've not had any reports regarding a cramped space. Yes the carpet upstairs has some historical moth damage but I'm not sure how this affects the guests comfort. I do feel that the score you have given us is very unfair and if you look at othr reviews from other guests you'll see that they clearly do not share your opinion. Property Owner

We had everything we needed in the property and the local shops, cafe's and pub were excellent. Parking may be an issue but we managed to park on the street and car parks are no more than five minutes walk away.

Thankyou Gary for such excellent feedback. We agree that Dulverton is a lovely town and so pleased that you had a good time. Hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "A lovely week's stay in a fabulous location."

The house is immaculate and our stay enhanced by the care and attention given to the small details. Plenty of linens, luxury toiletries and, especially welcome, guides and walk books available. The biscuits on arrival were welcome too! All together a five star stay. Would definitely recommend. Thank you.

  • "The cottage was perfect for our Christmas getaway- it was warm and spacious, and had everything we needed for our 5 night stay."

Dulverton high street was great to explore on wetter days, Burridge Woods made for lovely walks on the drier days, and the Tarr Steps are a 15 minute drive away. Highly recommended for any one looking for a base to explore South Exmoor!

Thank you so much for your kind comments. So pleased that you enjoyed staying at our house. We’d love you to come back again . Again, many thanks. Property Owner

  • "We had a fabulous time and made some precious family memories at Barleside."

The layout was perfect for our group. My only criticism is the downstairs double is quite basic when compared to the beautiful space upstairs. My elderly parents had the downstairs room as they can't get upstairs- and it would have been nice for us to know they had as special a room. I know you can't please everybody all the time and we loved the twin with the river view. Also a couple of comfy Sun loungers would be perfect- but if we came again we could always bring our own. We loved Dulverton and would like to come back, without hesitation we would book Barleside again. We didn't have any issues with free parking very close to the cottage, it wasn't a problem.

What lovely feedback. Thankyou. So glad you had a good stay. We think Dulverton has something for everyone - great walking, a brilliant selection of independent shops, a main Co-op with long opening hours, pubs and restauants and lots of things to do. We're constantly looking at ways to improve the house and the outside riverside garden. We hope to see you back again. Property Owner

  • "Thank you for a great holiday."

Lovely location, well maintained, comfortable and thoughtfully equipped cottage. We managed to find a parking space most days so only had to pay for parking 1 day, you may need to budget for parking if you are not so lucky, but well worth it. Great communication too. Lots to explore from the door step and close to lots of great places to explore too.

Thank you for your very kind feedback. So glad you had a good stay. There are lots of great events going on in Dulverton all year round and the town itself has a great feel about it. We do hope you'll come back to stay again. Property Owner

  • "Lovely village/town."

lovely area, very tranquil, home is situated by a river and a very short distance from the pubs, restaurants, cafes, and shops. Must be careful when going out of the door you must be aware of traffic to the vets. Bus service though is not very good.

So glad you had a good stay. Yes, you do need to be aware of passing traffic to the vets, though this is very slow moving. The bus service is reasonably regular but you do need to plan your journeys. It's well worth taking the bus to places like Dunster and Minehead. There are however plenty of good walks right on your doorstep and Dulverton itself is full of interesting walks and places to visit. We do hope you'll come back. Property Owner

  • "Cottage was clean, warm and comfortable and Dulverton is a nice little place with plenty of shops and eating places."

The upstairs bedroom and bathroom are really spacious and the layout ideal for two couples. The outside seating area was lovely. I do agree with previous comments about the indoor seating, there is really only comfortable seating for 3 people in the living room. Also, I think the property description should make the parking situation clearer, we could not park outside to unload, as the narrow access lane was too busy with traffic to and from the veterinary practice. There isn't much unrestricted parking in Dulverton either, so you may end up paying for the car park (currently £5 per day). However, those were only minor issues and we would happily book again.

Many thanks for your kind comments. Glad you enjoyed your stay. We have taken note of previous comments and there are now 4 easy chairs + a sofa in the living room. Regarding unloading it is easiest to unload on the way into the property. People don't usually mind waiting a couple of minutes while you unload. Yes there is limited free parking in town - not a lot we can do about that - but the pay car parks are less than 5 minutes walk away and very reasonably priced at £5 per 24 hours. Really hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely holiday in Barleside, the property is convenient for the village and pubs/eateries."

We travelled or walked every day, lots of places of interest at Somerset and Dulverton is a lovely place. The property is well equipped, however, the seating area could be more comfortably furnished. We would go back to Barleside again and would recommend it to anyone that wants a peaceful holiday with lovely river views.

Many thanks for your kind feedback. We are looking at changing the seating but want to try to keep the place uncluttered. We're constantly looking at ways to improve the experience of staying there and the garden area now looks better than ever. The beauty of this property is that it is very central but far enough off the road to avoid the sound of traffic. We do hope you come to stay again. Property Owner

  • "Hi, what an amazing location in the beautiful town of Dulverton."

So many shops and places to eat and drink. Many great walks. The house is lovely and we had everything we need. My only comment would be that it needs some more comfortable seating in the living room would be nice. It is perfect for 4 people but advertised for 6. Another small sofa would be perfect. The beds were very comfortable and the house was very clean on arrival.

Many thanks for your feedback Amanda. So glad that you enjoyed your holiday and staying at the house. We have furnished the house to make the most of its spacious and airy feel but we'll certainly look at your comments with regard to the seating to improve the experience for future guests. We would love you to come and stay again. Property Owner

About the location

DULVERTON

Minehead 17 miles.

Dulverton is the southern gateway to the Exmoor National Park, a small town standing between the rivers Barle and Exe, which meet further down the valley. Dulverton has some quaint narrow streets weaving between fine Victorian buildings and a three arched bridge crossing the river leading to riverside walks. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs in Dulverton and in the square is the Exmoor National Park visitor centre and art gallery, offering plenty of inspiration for exploring the vast expanse of the moor on foot, on horseback or from behind the wheel. Why not try an off road safari around Exmoor to see red deer, wild ponies and rare birds? Exmoor has been designated as a Dark Sky Reserve, where the light pollution is low and plenty of stargazing can be done. Near to Dulverton is the majestic lake at Wimblewall Country Park, the first Dark Skies Discovery Centre on Exmoor. Wimblewall is also a premier trout fishing location, and provides tuition in numerous water sports, including sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. Further afield the North Somerset coastline has sandy beaches at Minehead, picturesque harbours and plenty of wild walking around Porlock Weir. A fabulous holiday destination for all those enjoying outdoor activities, dramatic landscapes and wildlife.
