The floor under the settee had not been cleaned and was covered in dog hair. It looked as though it had not been brushed for quite a whilst. The lights in the living room are not very good and the living is dark due to only a small window being in there. The bathroom was very nice and the kitchen was good. Whilst there is a table outside, we felt disinclined to use it as it was outside the ground floor flat and not at all private. If the garden area could be made more private from the courtyard that would be an improvement. The rears of the other properties that overlook this are in quite a poor state and totally different state of repair from the Hayloft. Didn’t bother me too much, but could be so much nicer. Didn’t expect this property to be looking into the rear of other properties that are in a poor state of repair, hence the rating of the accuracy of the listing. Overall 7/10 in my view, mainly due to the uncomfortable small settee. Within walking distance of two village pubs and the village shop was a good point. As was the tea rooms opposite.

Our rating was because this place was totally wrong for us. For a completely able bodied couple with dogs this place is lovely. A bit of background. We visit st florence every year and have done so for over 35 years. It’s practically our second home. This year we really struggled to find accommodation when we tried to book over six months in advance and ended up settling for something wasn’t entirely suitable. The item we were settling on we thought was the flight of stairs up to the apartment. Unfortunately there were quite a few other things that just weren’t for us. Firstly, the advert mentioned nothing about the placement of this apartment. Yes it’s above the coach house but is practically on top of the other 15ish cottages of Ivy Towers Village. And we mean on top of, there are another 4 properties are within 10 meters of them, next door is a mere driveway away and the car parking place is squashed in to a tiny courtyard under a very tight archway under a building with another 4 vehicles. The steps for the apartment are very steep and challenging for anyone who is not completely able bodied. The apartment was absolutely consumed by the scent of air freshener presumably to hide the smell of dogs but honestly it’s not very healthy especially if you have breathing difficulties so we had to have the windows open at every opportunity. The apartment is quite small. It’s a lot smaller than it looks on the photos. The bedroom and bathroom were ample but the living area was very small and dark even. The kitchen was small but has everything we needed and we cooked several meals there. There was a lot of dog hair around which would not have been a problem if there was a vacuum available. One of the main problems we had was the bath which is what we actually booked this place for. I have muscular dystrophy and having baths helps. Well all I can say is that the bath is not as big as it looks on the photos. Now we are both just over 6 foot but can usually have a bath with our legs out for the water. We’ll I tried it once and it was impossible for me. I couldn’t get in and I couldn’t wash myself and then I couldn’t get out. Then there was the issue with actually running a bath. We followed the instructions for heating the hot water over several days but the water never got hot enough for a bath it was lukewarm at best. Apart from that the bathroom was very pleasant. We also had trouble with the size of the bed again because of the size of us. Smaller people would not have an issue. It was comfortable and there was plenty of storage available together with a decent hairdryer, small ironing board and iron and and clothes airer. We managed to visit the swimming pool once which was lovely nice size warm good changing facilities and we like the sole booking system. The sauna was also lovely once we got the hang of it. Overall it wasn’t a bad stay but we felt it was extremely overpriced as most things are this year. We usually stay in st florence and have sole use of a bungalow on a residential street for over three hundred pounds less than we paid for this. And although we appreciate due to the current climate most if not all places are making hay whilst the sun shines we certainly wouldn’t stay again at seven hundred and seventy pounds per week.

The place is ideal for myself and my husband with just a gentle stroll down to the two local village pubs. We would happily book the Hayloft again for next year but have noticed a rise of £200 for the same weeks stay taking it to almost £900 for a week which we feel that even though the cottage is a lovely base it does not warrant such a huge leap in the hiring fee. It is such a shame as we were going to rebook straight away and our son and his wife the Coach House below us but they also are shocked at the steep rise in the rental fee. If the owner has a rethink and brings it back to what we feel is a nominal rate for a two bedroom cottage then please do let us know as we would love to stay there again next summer.

There was, apart from the refrigerator and bread bin, no place to store any food. I would suggest the as the accommodation is for two only, the amount of crockery could be reduced freeing up some cupboard and drawer space for food storage. We were taken aback by the location within a complex of 10s of holiday lets. Although rereading the details there is a sentence saying it’s in Ivy Village, we didn’t realise the closeness or implications. The property is also described as having a garden, and whilst I wasn’t expecting a fully enclosed garden I was a bit surprised by the ‘no dogs off lead’ on the small patch of grass immediately adjacent. None of these things were dreadful, but the reality was definitely not clear.

Lots of taxi numbers on the board in the Hayloft but the locals said Tenby taxi is the best service to use. Made full use of the swimming pool in the evenings and the chap looking after the facilities was very chatty and helpful but also left us alone when we were not wanting to talk away. The swimming pool facilities are basic as stated in the brochure, but clean and very useable. Ivy Tower village is rather lovely and it was nice to be able to say hello to our neighbours (also on holiday) but not be able to hear them when were inside the Hayloft. We were able to walk to the village pub in the evenings ,The Sun (we did not like The Parsonage but each to their own) and we also walked to the zoo just along the road and while were out looked around the activity /play centre on the other side of the road. Pembroke Castle is worth a trip in the car, just 15 minutes along the road. The Hayloft was clean and bright and the bed (for us) was very comfortable. A pint of milk in the fridge on our arrival was a nice touch and the towels in the bathroom were new and good quality. We could not seem to get the hot water to work in the kitchen but it made no worries, I just boiled a kettle to do the little washing up we had. The power shower worked a treat although the shower door could do with a bit of attention. Seriously thinking about booking again for next year as so much more to do in the area
