"Lovely little place clean and tidy couldn’t fault it really."
The only downside for us was that it was a bit remote than we’d have liked. Other than that lovely stay

"The area is lovely and was very homely."
I plan to go back next year, sadly cut my holiday short due to the lockdown. Very private and peaceful. Just the garden gate was not secure for my dog. And some of the areas needed cleaning like inside the built in wardrobes clearly not been cleaned for a while, same for the curtain rails. But on the whole I was very happy lots of things to see and do in the surrounding areas.

The site is clean with good facilities. Situated in the countryside there are some good walks nearby along the Tees and you are ideally situated for Barnard Castle, Richmond, Leyburn, Raby Castle and Hamsterley Forest. Great fish and chips in Gainford

"The cottage was exactly what we wanted, somewhere to relax & sleep after a day out exploring with dog."
The owners were lovely, location was amazing, the site was very quiet. The cottage was lovely with all you would need & more for a holiday. Bed linen & towels were included and the cottage was clean although the hard to reach spots could have done with some attention but it didn’t spoil our time at Hawthorn Cottage.

"The property was always kept warm and cosy in the late October of my stay and the place and its utilities were clean."
The nearest pub in the nearby village called Caldwell - The Brownlow Inn- supplies excellent food as well. Parking space was good and the place right at this time of the year for a good quiet week away from work.

Would not like to have stayed a week with only
those to sit on
The bed was extremely comfortable, tad on the small side.
Very well equipped cottage, nice space to sit out when weather allows. Very peaceful and quiet
Would book again for a short break,

The cottage was lovely but there was no dog walking area as its says, which was one of the reasons we booked it , so we had to take the dog out in the car to fined somewhere and its on a busy site with about 20 or more caravans and lots of pods which it doesn't say when booking ,
We did have a lovely time out and about and the weather was fab
We're pleased you enjoyed the cottage and everything the area has to
offer. I'm sorry the field was out of action during your stay, due to
ongoing works. There are lots of walks nearby and, as I mentioned on your
arrival, some you can do without the need to get into your car. We are
definitely not a busy site, in fact we are a very quiet site. All the
caravans are seasonal pitches, and mostly couples, so the owners are rarely
here all at the same time - during your stay there were only two
caravanners on site. The 'poddery' is in a separate area and does not
impact on guests in our cottages. Thank you for your comments

"Peace and tranquility is what l wanted most of all."
Hawthorn Cottage gave this to me and l was able to focus on my memoirs. I achieved a comprehensive chapter and also managed to tour around Swaledale and cross the moors on my way back. Just in time to catch low lying clouds for several miles before joining the A66 to get back to the cottage. Ed and Kate were helpful in supplying all the information l requested and will include my stay on the National Park in my book. Thank you Sykes for making this location possible.

"The hosts Kate and Ed were brilliant nothing was too much trouble, that said they were around if you needed them but not intrusive, thoroughly enjoyed the week."
Our dog really loved the field, when we were there there are pathways of cut grass among longer uncut grass with play areas at top and bottom of field, our dog loved running along the pathways. For people that do not know the area it was quiet and restful. Good road links to local A Roads. The locals and the locality are lovely. Visited Barnard Castle, Darlington, Yarm and Richmond, to name a few.
