It is however just a bit on the small side, which is the reason I have given 4 stars instead of 5. Didn’t have any trouble parking directly outside. Space was always available. Reeth is an ideal village if you like walking that is not too strenuous. Some nice walks directly from the Village.

Also, our elderley dog struggled with the stairs, and as the living areas were on the upper floor, she had to be carried up and down frequently. The cottage, however, was lovely, and the little extras very thoughtful.

  • "We both had a lovely week's holiday in Reeth, which was made even better by the location of Dibble Cottage, which is right in the centre of the village."

The fact that the bedroom and shower is on ground floor, whilst the kitchen/dining area and living room were upstairs was an added bonus and this was because it was a very hot week and so when you went down the stairs to bed, it was lovely and cool. Whilst Dibble Cottage may be small, it is modern and lovely, clean and tidy and was ideal for a couple like ourselves. The welcome on the little chalkboard, plus the lovely artisan bread, milk and flowers, plus the bottle of prosecco were a lovely touch by the owner. We shall return. David & Carol.

Everything has been thought of by the owners. We ate in most evenings and found everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare dinner. It is in a great location in the centre of the village with the corner shop literally ‘round the corner’ and 2 lovely pubs just across the green. Comfortable and very cosy. Didn’t need to use the wood burner fire as the electric radiators were more than adequate to keep the place warm. It would have been useful, however, to know when the timers were set to come on & off. We eventually used the manual setting. Very well equipped kitchen. Modern bathroom. Bed & pillows v comfortable. As it was December when we there the light through the window shutters in the morning wasn’t a problem but could be in summertime. Very kind of the owners to leave a ‘welcome’ pack’.

There is nothing you could want for. The bed is superb, the shower is great. We lit the woodturner a couple of times, but we mainly had good weather. We had our regular Sainsbury's delivery rerouted. We ate outside the Black Bull one lunchtimes restrictions were lifted and where we could meet with a relative for the first time in a year. Plenty of walks without using the car. I was very disappointed the river walk to the suspension bridge was closed and there was no warning till we got there.

About the location

REETH

Leyburn 8 miles; Richmond 11 miles; Barnard Castle 15 miles; Kirkby Stephen 22 miles.

The pretty, ever-popular village of Reeth rests at the northern tip of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where Arkengarthdale and Swaledale meet, nestled between Calver Hill, Fremington Edge and Harkerside. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with lovely rolling hills and spectacular views, Reeth boasts a colourful history as it was originally a Saxon settlement, and has also been known as a lead mining town and a centre for hand knitting throughout its time. Both trades are proudly featured in the Swaledale Museum, located alongside a good range of shops, tea rooms and restaurants. For a quaint little community, Reeth is well-served by traditional inns, with three to choose from, including the lovely Buck Hotel, whitewashed like so many of the 18th century cottages huddled around the triangular village green. The historic market towns of Richmond and Leyburn are also within easy reach, offering a further selection of amenities. Askrigg is just a short drive away, as well as Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater and Hardraw Force (England's highest single drop waterfall at 99ft). Reeth offers a fantastic base for exploring North Yorkshire's beautiful, sweeping countryside, whether you choose to discover the caves, cliffs, waterfalls or the plethora of walking and cycling routes that circle this vibrant and varied landscape.
