Beautiful setting & cottage, just as described online. Would definitely book it again & recommend to anyone. Great space for the dogs.

  • "I booked this one for my dad's 60th and could not have been happier with my choice."

The cottage is surprisingly big and easily accommodates up to 8 people, it has a lovely riverside walk that starts right next to the cottage and a hot tub. What more could you want? Also you're only a short drive from Duhram, which is definitely worth a visit or three. The only issue we had was solved in the first few hours we were there by the owner (Peter) who notified me that there was an issue with the hot tub pump and that he was already on the way to pick up the new part (on a bank holiday, what a legend) safe to say it wasn't a problem for long. Also, throughout the day you're likely to get visited by the friendliest dogs ever who just want your love and definitely not that pizza crust you have left over. Highly recommend.

Hot tub was great but weather was not kind and a covered pergola or something would have been perfect but it certainly didn’t stop us getting in. Every bedroom was immaculate and beds very comfortable . Would highly recommend and will book again for our annual school reunion . Thankyou to the hosts for the lovely touch of a bottle of bubbly on arrival much appreciated .

It’s ideally placed for exploring Durham and the surrounding area, it’s near to the park and ride yet it’s totally rural setting ensures it is quiet and peaceful. With woodland and river side walks from the door it’s also an ideal place to bring a dog. The friendly welcome from a helpful owner was the icing on the cake of a great holiday.

we didn't feel the cottage was of a high standard of clean ... the side of the sofas had food down the side and under sofas was dirty overal was a cery standard clean, also felt the sofas was ready for replacement was well past there time . felt like some of kitchen equitment needs replacing ,frying pans ECT wasn't able to cook in them without buring things ! also found there was 3 dogs roaming around outside by themselves which made me feel a little worrid with the children and left dog poo which kids kept standing in ! the property was a lovely building and a nice area but got room for improvments inside. felt for the money we paid we was slightly disappointed.

  • "A lovely cottage that is brilliantly situated."

The location and views exceeded all expectations. The cottage was very well equipped and we didn’t want for anything during our stay. The hot tub was a great plus and well maintained. Two minor niggles and these are probably personal preference things - we found the beds hard and not terribly comfortable, and the chairs around the dining room table were too high (or the table too low) to easily / comfortably get your legs underneath!

  • "A group of tired mummy's visited the cottage for a 2 night stay on the 25th January for some much needed relaxation."

The Cottage was absolutely beautiful and finished to a very high standard with all the rooms being spacious and tastefully decorated. The owner was very welcoming, greeting us on arrival to show us the facilities and also recommended some local takeaways given that we'd arrived fairly late on Friday evening. Although the owners live on the same estate as the cottage and were on hand should we have needed anything, they were not intrusive and we were left to quiet enjoyment! We were visited by the owners dogs who were absolutely lovely and keen for tummy rubs and lot of fussing. :-) The (electric) hot tub was fabulous and the wood burning stove in the living area was perfect after getting out of the hot tub on a very cold and wet January evening in Durham! Durham town centre was only a 15 minute drive away but if you wanted to avoid the hustle and bustle then the cottage was well situated close to river and a number of walks. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage and will definitely be visiting again. Thank you!

  • "Overall suited the needs of our group on this occasion but not sure we would stay again."

Looked stunning but could do with some TLC. Kitchen surfaces are poured concrete but don’t seem to have a resin coating so surface is porous, can’t be wiped clean. The entire kitchen was a bit grubby and sticky. Sealant around sink missing and or black with mildew. Chipped china, only 5 large plates for a property sleeping 8 people. Broken blender and other odd assorted kitchen items in cupboards. Fridge smelled and was not clean when we arrived. Oven very dirty. Big old coffee machine that we couldnt get to function properly, a simple cafetière would have been better. Downstairs bathroom has stone floor with stone ‘ledge’ around shower which was very easy to stub toes on. Shower floor was slimy and mouldy. Sofas look very tired/worn and some of the mattresses were lumpy and uncomfortable. Not very child friendly due to slippery wooden staircase and uneven stone floor downstairs. Owners live on site and very welcoming. Ideal location for Durham. Very pretty surroundings.

Owners Response Thank you for your feedback :- 12 sets of new tableware have been bought. The worktops are sealed, but we have taken the precaution of another coat. The kitchen and shower sealant now stripped and re-sealed. New blender purchased. Added a new cafetiere and Nespresso machine are now available. Repairs to existing Sofas completed and new Sofas planned for 2019 season. Property Owner

It was well placed for some wonderful walks - both short meanders and longer jaunts. It was peaceful and relaxing but also close to other facilities and activities, with Durham being just over 3 miles away. The owners were helpful and on hand but not intrusive. The cottage itself was comfortable and the accommodation was flexible in meeting the needs of our multi generational family group. We also had 2 dogs which loved the open space available to them. The hot tub was now an electric one rather than wood fired and this was actually much better and an added bonus to the stay. Would highly recommend Orchard Cottage for a relaxing holiday/short break.

Owner was respectful of our privacy but nearby if we needed anything. Orchard Cottage provided us with space in 4 large bedrooms, large kitchen with appealing kitchen table to share meals together, spacious lounge and enormous hot tub! The facilities were excellent and my son-in-law loved the stoves! An ideal location with peaceful surroundings and walkways yet not too far from home and work places for all meaning we could stay the Sunday night and also travel home each day to feed our elderly cat ! A family trip to Beamish nearby was fun and Durham was visited via Park and Ride just up the road. Will definitely consider a revisit and have told friends at work about the cottage too.
