  • “It was great to be back in Masham after 4 years and to find the town unchanged and retaining all its charm.”

The cottage was comfortable, especially the large bed. We visited interesting places, some old favourites and some new. Would particularly recommend the Himalayan Garden and sculpture park near Grewelthorpe. The pubs and restaurants were struggling a bit with the constraints of covid and staffing problems owing to Brexit, but the Bruce Arms made a big effort for us re vegetarian food which was delicious, served by friendly staff.

We were sorry when the time came to go home.

The property

This spacious semi-detached cottage, a former cheese factory, is set just a two minute walk from the centre of Masham, home to the famous Black Sheep and Theakstons Breweries.

Skilfully converted and renovated to a good standard, this Masham cottage provides a great base for a family to enjoy the many delights of this old market town.

The cottage features a light and airy sitting room with cosy woodburning stove and dining area, along with a modern, well-equipped kitchen, whilst upstairs there is a large king-size double, as well as a lovely twin/double room and a stylish bathroom.

Outside your Wensleydale cottage there is a small yard, which provides an area for sitting and enjoying an evening tipple after a busy day.

This charming Masham holiday home is ideally located for the town centre and the twice weekly market, plus other amenities within a short stroll include the Theakston and Black Sheep visitor centres, Vennell's award-winning restaurant, Black Sheep Bistro and a choice of good pubs.

There is also great walking and cycling from the doorstep and the market towns of Richmond, Leyburn and Hawes are within easy reach, as are the beautiful abbeys of Fountains and Jervaulx.

The area is packed with things to do and places to visit with the popular towns of Ripon and Harrogate within driving distance.

A delightful cottage for a holiday whatever the time of year.

About the location

MASHAM

Ripon 9 miles; Bedale 6 miles; Northallerton 14 miles.

The historic little market town of Masham is situated in the lower reaches of pretty Wensleydale alongside the River Ure. Set in gently rolling farmland, the town boasts a huge market square, where a Wednesday market has been joined by a popular Saturday market. There are lots of walks around the area, including a 10-mile walk along the Ure, arguably one of the best in the UK. The town boasts a good range of crafts, galleries, shops, restaurants and pubs and has become best known perhaps as the home of two breweries Theakstons of Old Peculiar fame and the Black Sheep Brewery, which now brews 11 million pints of beer a year! The popular towns of Ripon, Thirsk, Northallerton, Richmond and Harrogate are an easy drive away. With so much to see and do in the area, this is a great place for a holiday in all seasons.
