Just show me Wye Valley Cottages
Escape to the Wye Valley AONB, linking England with Wales, a
region of glorious countryside dotted with Wye Valley holiday
cottages.
This is borderland territory full of ancient treasures with many
a tale to tell. Unravel such stories at castles like Chepstow in
Monmouthshire, or Goodrich and Wilton in Herefordshire. Marvel at
the magnificent ruins of Tintern Abbey, a masterpiece of Gothic
architecture; or at The Kymin, an unusual Georgian banqueting house
and naval temple frequented by Lord Nelson and affording
spectacular views over the Welsh countryside.
Talking of vantage points, others to look out for include Capler
Camp, Cherry Hill, Devil's Pulpit, The Prospect and Symonds Yat
Rock, overlooking the breathtaking horseshoe bend in the river.
Outdoor activities near your Wye Valley cottage
Pedalling through the Wye Valley along single-track lanes and
bridleways is one of the best ways to soak up the atmosphere of
this wonderfully unspoilt area. Otherwise, pull on a pair of boots
and tramp along the Offa's Dyke National Trail. Or try a new
activity at a variety of specialist centres offering climbing,
abseiling, canoeing, caving and so on - whatever your taste, expect
a truly rewarding experience.
Family days out may take the form of a lazy picnic on the banks
of the Wye, or a trip by steam at Perrygrove Railway. Other
attractions include Go Ape, Amazing Hedge Puzzle, Butterfly Zoo,
plus stacks of museums.
And when you fancy a little shopping, culture and other
entertainment, head for one of the market towns such as Hereford,
Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth or Chepstow.
Lots for everyone on a Wye Valley cottage holiday!
