  • "Lovely cottage in a great location, the only quibble was the double bed in the master bedroom, which was quite awkward and small, so we ended up sleeping in the twin room."

We also struggled to understand which bits of garden went with the cottage, so perhaps a small diagram/map in the welcome book wuld help? Everything else was absolutely spot on.

  • "It was a lovely area and the cottage was central to everything."

For dog owners it was ideal, the garden was enclosed and plenty of walks in the woods which were on the doorstep.

Hi Pattina, glad you enjoyed our cottage, and enjoyed your holiday in Gatehouse. Thank you for your very kind feedback as all feedback is greatly appreciated. Hope to see you again soon, if you come back. Thanks again Hannah x Property Owner

  • "Excellent cottage- clean and comfortable and easy to park."

Double bed in boxroom did not work for us- not enough room and difficult to use. Fixed easily as we could move into the single bedded room. Maybe make it clearer that although garden is enclosed the access to it is not. Fine for us as our old dog won't run away but might be an issue with younger dogs. Location is excellent - shop, dog friendly pubs and great walks very close. Lovely area.

  • "We loved 2 Fleet Street!"

It's been beautifully renovated and has everything you could possibly need. Particularly enjoyed the comfy lounge. The bedroom layout (as mentioned by previous reviewers) is awkward but dictated by the shape/size of the rooms and we opted to sleep in the twin bedded room and were perfectly comfortable. The garden is separate from the house and accessed via a little alleyway but totally enclosed and safe for children/dogs.

Hi Caroline, really glad you enjoyed your stay at our cottage and thank you for your feedback. All feedback is greatly appreciated and hope to see you again soon. Thank you again Hannah x Property Owner

  • "I read the previous reviews, and have to say I was a little apprehensive as they were mixed."

The photographs don't do the cottage justice. It's a lovely cosy cottage, very clean and well equipped. We had a perfect stay.

I did notice that the drain outside the back door has a tendency to back up.

  • "The cottage was well presented and spotless."

Ideally situated for local amenities and country walks. Let down by worn out single divans and a double bed hard against a wall in the box room. This made sleeping uncomfortable for the elderly.

Hi sorry for late reply, just realised how to reply to feedback! Thank you for your feedback as it’s greatly appreciated, we have now changed all the mattresses and replaced the divans with solid pine beds, and the fixed bed also has a new mattress. Thank you for visiting our cottage and hope to see you again. Hannah x Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay very much."

One minor problem was that we had to juggle around the 4 duvets to provide warm enough cover for three people (in Autumn). We had to use a single duvet and a double duvet with the double bed, and a double duvet with one of the single beds. It wouldn't have been OK if there had been 4 of us. Or if it had been colder at night. Anyway, apart from that (easily fixable) issue the house was great.

Hi thank you for your feedback, sorry for late response just realised how to reply, and sorry to hear about the duvet problem will look at swooping duvets for the relevant season. Thanks again for your visit and feedback. Hannah x Property Owner

  • "The house was show with a double room , in realality it was at best a small single with a double mattress placed on top of a box made of rough shiplap."

The mattress was old and very uncomfortable and it was impossable for two people to be in the room unless one was in the bed.

About the location

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles; Castle Douglas 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside, with good sandy beaches a five-minute drive away. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community, and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse’s cotton-spinning days. Today, there are several shops in the town including a small supermarket, chemist, bank and Post Office, along with two book/gift shops, a kilt-making centre and two cafes. All four pubs in the town have restaurant facilities and welcome children. Castle Douglas, a 15-minute drive away, offers an extensive range of shops, Threave Gardens and boating on Carlingwark Loch.
