"We enjoyed our recent stay at Greenslades, it was wet and dreary weather most of the week, mind you it's mid Nov and on Exmoor so to be expected."
So it was nice to get back to a warm and cosy cottage after each day out. Although there's two woodstoves we only used the smaller dining area one for background warm, as the main central heating was excellent. We found everything we needed for our stay was provided, bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. A home from home.
Thanks for the feedback. So pleased you had an enjoyable stay and stayed warm and cosy despite the weather. Property Owner
"This was a fantastic house, warm and welcoming with great facilities."
We were a family group ranging from 1-89 and it worked very well for us. The information sent by the owner prior to our stay was very helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay in Exmoor.
Thank you. Pleased you all enjoyed your stay and that the extra information was helpful. Property Owner
"Our second time at this lovely house."
The house is very comfortable, clean, and spacious. Great garden with lovely views over the countryside. Nice touch that they leave milk and a lovely homemade cake on arrival. Would definitely return.
"Lovely spacious house well equipped for a comfortable stay."
The house is perfectly positioned for a short circular walk into Exford for the shop, playground and pubs.
"We had a wonderful few days at Greenslades."
It was perfect for our family gathering with everything we needed, comfortable beds and just that lovely home from home feeling. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather, so had drinks and meals outside, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the lovely garden and surrounding area. Wonderful walks from the house and an easy walk or cycle ride down to the village for supplies and a cheeky pint.
"We had a lovely holiday at Greenslades but attention to detail is probably not acute as the front door glass was grubby and the pots outside had no flowers and the front garden looked rather neglected."
... having said that it was homely and welcoming and the cake left for us was delicious and very welcome.... one thing we felt was that the step down from the kitchen to the front door was VERY steep and needed another 2nd step which could easily be done... my husband has terminal cancer and is rather wobbly on his legs and found that step difficult as would people with toddlers and elderly?! I feel also that the site needs to state that this property is not suitable for people with mobility issues as the steps and steep slope to and from it are very hard! BUT we did spend a very happy 4 days there in a very beautiful area...... thank you!
I am pleased that you had a lovely holiday at Greenslades. We are not able to get pots watered every day during the summer months but they are planted with bulbs and look pretty in the spring. I am sorry that your husband found the steps and steep slope difficult. Sykes description states that the house is on a hill and that there are a few steps down from the drive to the back door. We echo this in our welcome letter and advise that you can access the front door to unload to the ground floor. The step from the kitchen to the front door is slightly deeper than the stairs but any additional step would impede opening the front door so this is not a change we can implement. Very best wishes to you both dealing with the cancer and all the accompanying difficulties. Property Owner
"Greenslades is an exceptional cottage spacious and very comfortable, the dining area in the garden with such beautiful wisteria and wonderful panoramic views of the countryside really made our holiday."
The cottage is ideally situated for trips to Lynmouth and Porlock and many other places. The owners of the cottage have left ample leaflets and ideas for a Taylor made holiday..what’s not to enjoy
"This house is fantastic it was so comfortable and spacious it has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and is ideally located close to Exford village which has two good pubs and a well stocked village shop."
It has stunning views over the countryside which can be seen from the lovely garden. We will definitely return to this house.
Many thanks for your feedback, so pleased you had a good break. Property Owner
"This holiday was perfect!"
The booking, payment, key collection and information process was seamlessly easy. Greenslades Cottage was absolutely gorgeous in every way: a beautiful property, with every possible need provided for. There was a large chocolate cake, a litre of milk in the fridge, and two vases of daffodils for us when we arrived. The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful, with big comfy beds, excellent power showers and lovely bath sheets provided. There was plenty of room for all of us (.5 adults, 2 children and a large dog) and everything was spotlessly clean. It was early March and one day there were 5 inches of snow, but the cottage was always warm and cosy There was plenty of fire wood provided for the burners in the sitting room and dining room, but we didn't need to use it. None of us wanted to leave, so we would definitely recommend Greenslades to others and the Sykes company for their efficient and accurate operation.
"Absolutely perfect for two families to share with plenty of space and privacy."
Clean, warm and comfortable, a well equipped kitchen and two lovely fires. Spotless bathrooms with hot, powerful showers, perfect for relaxing after a walk on the moors. Recommend the White Horse pub in the village. We would love to return!!
Many thanks for your lovely feedback. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner
"Warm welcome with cake and daffodils, home is spacious and ideal for extended family get togethers ideally situated for Exmoor and surrounding areas."
Thank you for your kind feedback. So pleased you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again some time. Property Owner
"Delightful cottage in a lovely village."
Really nice bedrooms, cosy lounge with log burner & the kitchen had everything you could possibly need. Would definitely recommend. Lovely pub in the village White Horse Inn. We had a couple of lovely meals there. Beautiful area to explore.
"We had a lovely stay at Greenslades; a very comfortable, spacious house set in a good garden which Basil our dog also loved and failed to escape from!"
A lot of thought has gone into providing all that we would need on a holiday and even the weather was better than had been forecast :) The location is great - within easy reach of both the coast and moorland walks and with plenty of good pubs round and about. We hope to return with more of the family.
"Fantastic cottage in a great location."
We had a wonderful week. The cottage has everything you need and more besides. Everything has been finished to a high spec making the stay a very comfortable one. Beautiful well maintained garden can be enjoyed by all and is perfect for a dog. Great pubs close by and the beach only a 20 min drive. We will definitely be back.
"Nice property & location, could have done with a better clean."
Difficult access into the drive which was very steep it underplayed the steps down from the drive to the house.
"A nice cottage in a good place Ideal for visiting other places a safe garden for ..."
A nice cottage in a good place Ideal for visiting other places a safe garden for the dog it has everything you could need, enjoyed sitting outside in the garden very secluded the dog really enjoyed herself, will certainly be going back again
"We really enjoyed our stay at Greenslades."
The house is very well equipped and proved an excellent base for our plan to walk the Coleridge Way. The log fire in the living room was great for a cosy evening with a glass of wine and a book. Sadly the weather was not warm enough in the evening for us to enjoy the pretty garden with its outlook over the fields, but on a warm day it would be delightful.
"There was no mention about all the steep steps into the property and between the kitchen and the lounge."
It was a good job we were all fairly fit! The cake on arrival was very much appreciated.
Hi Your trip was at such a difficult time with the power outage in the village but my letter to you before your arrival did include the following at para 6: "The house is on a hill and there are a few steps down from the drive to the back door to the house. If this is a problem for any of your party or for unloading the car, then having opened up the house you can unlock the front door and temporarily park in the road to unpack and allow easier access to the ground floor. " I hope that you will return at easier times best wishes Property Owner
"Fantastic cottage, very cozy, homely, well equipped and well prepared."
Even the two fires were pre-made just to be lit from the generous first supply of logs that were left for us, which on a cold and wet January week was very welcome. There was a small maintenance problem while we stayed, the owners attitude to fixing it directly, quickly and working around our stay couldn’t have been better, always great to know this support is there if anything does stop working on your stay, in direct contrast with some previous other cottage experiences.
"We were a party of six adults, 2 over 90 and one of those in a wheelchair."
Nowhere in your description did you mention the steep steps from the drive to the house, nor did you mention the steps between the kitchen and lounge or the fact that it was on a hill. We wouldn't have chosen this house if we had realised. The house was indeed very comfortable with nice bedding and showers and plenty of room for all of us and a lovely position in the countryside. We also had problems locating the house when we arrived. Admittedly we were tired after a long drive but were looking for the house going by the picture and did not realise we should have taken the left fork and not follow the road.
"For a property of this price and standard, headboards on the twin beds would have been nice."
"Despite some awful weather this did not detract from the rural setting of this cottage, if you want to get away from it all this is the place."
Just far enough out of the village to be secluded. It was great to experience what real darkness is and listen to the country nightlife. The local owls make you smile and the buzzards in the early morning are a treat and i am sure on a really quiet still morning the deer can be heard in the distance at this time of year. Yes you need a car but being in the center of the national park all roads lead somewhere and each one takes you across the moors in a different direction with always something to see.
"We have just had a lovely week at Greenslades."
A really attractive and comfortable house, and on the edge of a well-served village. Everything which could be done was done to make this a very enjoyable and relaxing week. We had no doubts about the cleanliness or safety of the property in the current circumstances, Lorna is obviously an absolute treasure! Have no hesitation in recommending Greenslades as a perfect holiday cottage in the heart of Exmoor.
"Very pleasant green location"
"This is the third time we have stayed at Greenslades and will probably stay again."
We are familiar with the property and It is comfortable and well equipped especially for a winter booking. There was only one mishap during the week when the gardeners visited and did not secure the gate after their visit. Sadly the wind blew the gate open onto one of our cars and scratched it.
"First class cottage, thoroughly equipped; in a beautiful location overlooking the River Exe early in its course."
"It was good to be near couple of pubs and a small shop."
The cottage felt very homely. Had a lovely time.
"Lovely setting and chocolate box cottage"
"Greenslades was a perfect cottage to spend time with family and friends, celebrating my birthday!"
Well equipped, comfortable and warm with the log fires banishing any chills from the snowy weather outside. Walking distance to village shop and pubs. Exmoor easily accessible for longer hikes and walks. Starry skies a real treat. The chocolate cake on arrival for delicious! Would love to go back soon!
"Very well equipped and it was a home from home."
The only improvement we would strongly recommend would be a thick curtain over the front door as it was extremely draughty. Better instructions for the use of the tv would have been helpful
"We had a really lovely stay in this tardis like holiday cottage."
Such a lovely setting and property. Definitely recommend. We were two families of four and a dog. Garden was perfect for enjoying the late September sunshine. Great village not far down the road. We had a great meal in the Crown and the kids loved the park and the café.
"Lovely comfortable cottage in a superb location"
"Greenslades is a fabulous holiday cottage, well equipped and such comfortable beds!"
It is situated in wonderful countryside, horse riders trotted past the window as we sat eating breakfast much to the delight of the grandchildren. The stunning North Devon coast is about a 30 minute drive away across the moor but what a beautiful drive and so worth it. We visited Lynton and Lynmouth for a ride in the cliff railway and then some rockpooling, a first for the grandchildren and happy memories for their dad! Booking through Sykes was straightforward and we were kept up to date with all the necessary information to ensure that we had a hassle free holiday. Highly recommended all round ☺
"Greenslades was lovely and the standard of the facilities was impressive."
It was a beautiful location and as the weather was chilly we used the log burning stoves and felt really cosy. Particularly liked the comfy beds and en suite facilities and found it highly suitable for a two family holiday.
"The cottage was excellent - clean, comfortable and warm."
The owners provided everything we needed, even things like hairdryers and torches. The children enjoyed the table tennis and the adults appreciated the comfortable beds and the open fire. It was the perfect place to enjoy half term with three generations of our family.
"Lovely cottage situated in ideal location for exploring Exmoor"
"An extremely comfortable cottage that was well equipped and provided the perfect conditions for a truly relaxing break."
"We all had a great time, very comfortable, very welcoming and we will definitely be coming back."
"Wow, just wow!"
This is our second visit to this outstanding cottage and, as before, we cannot fault it. Feels like coming home!
"Location, the cottage was very homely fully equipped and a place we would all like to return to."
"This House far exceeded expectation."
beautiful location for walking, local facilities and generally all that Exmoor has to offer. The house was extremely well maintained with comfortable beds and generous downstairs proportions, tastefully decorated. All our party members (group of 3 couples ) felt that the house made you feel relaxed and had a special vibe. Kitchen was well equipped, the showers hot. Saturday after a long walk sitting in front of the fire with newspapers. Bliss Thank you we will return! Ps The cake was much appreciated
"Gorgeous cottage, well equipped and comfortable with stunning views across the valley and quiet location."
Table tennis in the garage a great addition! Beware of steep sloping drive and many steps accessing and inside the cottage itself, so not easy if you have mobility issues. This is not mentioned in the details. Driveway parks 5 but you need to reverse and are parked on steep driveway. Difficult to find !

The picturesque village of Exford is situated in the heart of the Exmoor National Park. In a lovely setting by the River Exe, Exford boasts a village green, tea rooms, a shop, Post Office and two traditional inns serving excellent food and drinks. Exford is at the centre of a walkers' paradise with many miles of waymarked paths down the Exe and River Barle valleys and up to the nearby hills, including Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor, with outstanding views over 7 counties. Exford is renowned for fishing and riding, with the village hosting a horse show every August. The largest herd of wild red deer in England and Exmoor’s unique wild ponies roam the moors just above and around Exford, as they have done since the time of the Domesday Book. Guided walks with a National Park Ranger take place throughout the summer, and Exmoor is home to Lorna Doone and Tarka the otter, it is a place of rolling hills, medieval villages, such as Dunster with its castle, wild moors and a dramatic coastline. The coastal towns of Lynmouth, Porlock and Minehead are only a short drive from Exford and there are a variety of beaches along the coast, consisting of sandy and shingle beaches, plus some are ideal for surfing and body boarding. In 2011 Exmoor National Park was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, the first place in Europe to achieve this prestigious award and only the second in the world.
