  • Cleanliness - On arrival we had to remove crumbs from breadbin, vacuum under the sofa and clean the bottom of the fridge.

“Oven could have been cleaner too as it gave off a burning smell when used. Facilities - Kitchen. Very poorly lit at the micro-wave end of kitchen - needs a spot light? Main complaint is there was no micro-waveable dish at all in which to heat up a meal and there was no full size baking tray on which to heat a meal in the oven, therefore we were unable to use the micro wave which explains its pristine condition. We reported the leaking shower to one of the Dream Cottages staff and a plumber visited the property in our absence leaving dirty footprints in the bath, however the shower still leaked into the dinning area on our final morning. One final tip - put the keys on a proper keyring as they kept coming off the flimsy one provided.”

The property

Perfectly positioned for enjoying the countryside of Dorset is this charming cottage, Little Maltings, which rests at the heart of Milton Abbas, a truly archetypal English village with a quaint pub on the doorstep.

This one bedroom holiday accommodation has bags of character combined with a contemporary twist and all the mod cons required, a great find for a couple seeking a quiet getaway to the countryside.

Push open the characterful front door and be welcomed into the open-plan living room, where the exposed beams frame the sleek kitchen units, where you will find a range of appliances, which are sure to encourage a spot of home cooking.

Step across the tiled floor with underfloor heating to keep you toasty in the winter months to find the cosy sitting area; flick on the electric fire for additional warmth before kicking back on the sofa with a good book or browse through the channels of the TV for a movie night with your partner.

Afterwards, retreat up the staircase, where the sense of opulence is continued, boasting a plush super king-size bed with crisp white linens that are awaiting to be curled up under after a busy day exploring Dorset.

The bedroom comes with stylish chest of draws for your holiday belongings, as well as access to a deluxe en-suite, featuring a shower over bath.

If you can tear yourself away from the charming abode, enjoy a stroll through the village to admire the surrounding views, where you will discover a handful of pretty chocolate-box cottages, the gracious buildings of the Abbey Church and Abbey House before venturing to the welcoming pub for a well-deserved pint.

Explore your surroundings further by pulling on your walking boots and walk part of the long-distance Jubilee Trail, a 90-mile route that explores the beauty of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or perhaps embark on the climb up Bulbarrow Hill for breath-taking scenery or wander south to Milborne St. Andrew to admire the seasonal stream running down from the chalk downs.

For an action-packed day, pay a visit to Gorcombe Farm, where you will find opportunities for quad biking, paintball, clay shooting, archery, and even axe-throwing, or for a more leisurely activity, travel to the county town of Dorchester, home to a number of shops for an afternoon of retail therapy.

Alternatively, travel slightly further afield to the coastline to spend your days exploring the delights of Weymouth, West Bay and Lyme Regis, or choose to walk along the 18-mile long Chesil Beach.
