House was clean, airy, yet cosy and a good size. Great to have the garden too with having the dog with us. Location was good too. Quiet and only a 10 min walk into into centre of town. We would happily return here.

  • "Overall a lovely cottage and location is perfect, just a 5 minute walk to town centre."

We had a lovely week stay with our dog Maggie and the enclosed garden was perfect. The cottage was very clean but dated and just a few additions would improve it so much. The TV is ridiculously small. We didn't turn it on at all as we'd brought our firestick to watch but it's that old, it's not even a smart TV. Bring a tablet/laptop to watch. Radio - resorted to this every night but literally only BBC Radio 1/2/3/4 or smooth!! Could not tune anything else. Bring a DAB if you have one. USBs. Make sure you bring a plug if you have devices to charge as no smart devices here. We used the one on the router to charge our dogs tracker. Basics - no salt, pepper, dishcloths, toilet roll etc. Not a problem, just make sure you bring some. Parking is tight but you can park outside the garage belonging to cottage. No radiators (the old ducted air heating) to dry damp or washed clothing, an airer would have been appreciated. Emergencies - hopefully you won't have any as the numbers provided don't answer!! We had a leak in the 2nd bedroom during our stay - water literally pouring through the ceiling. Housekeeper, emergency number and owner all failed to answer multiple times. Eventually spoke to someone at Sykes (3rd try) who said they'd contact the maintenance company but 3 days later (when we left) it was still leaking and no one had been to our knowledge..

Really loved some of the personal artwork which gave it a lovely feel. We decided not to take our dog in the end despite booking it. The property was immaculately clean and tidy. There were just a coupe of very minor maintenance points. the RH shower door as you look at it, has a runner missing off the bottom of the door which if not careful leaves a gap in the door whilst showering. The front door lock sometimes does not lock from the outside so please double check when leaving the property (could be due to the corresponding latch on the inside - needs checking). Otherwise beautifully appointed and located for central Keswick and the lakes. Will definitely recommend and stay again. p.s. would have left a personal comment but the visitors book was full. Thanks again

Location was ideal and easy to get in and out of Keswick. However, if this is advertised as a dog friendly place then ideally the garden should've been more secure. We didn't feel we could go out there and enjoy it without having her on a lead due to the small gate. Next door had a lovely full gate, that would've made the property perfect.

  • "Little Hallgarth was a lovely little cottage a stones throw away from the heart of Keswick."

A very short walk through the scenic park and you where slap bang in the centre. The cottage is in an ideal location with plenty of off road parking. Its a cosey little property but suited us well for our stay. The bedrooms are a little dated but thats just down to taste - we quite liked it. The owners have took previous advice and put up roller blinds behind the curtains in these rooms to help with the light! My only gripe with the bedroom is that the double bed seemed smaller than your regular double my feet where touching the bars on the bottom & the pillows could do with being renewed! They where quite flat. Loved the artwork on the stairs, made the place feel very homeley. The garden looked lovely too although we didn't bring the pup this time so didn't use it much as we were rained off! The TV in the living room is tiny and not very well placed on the bookshelf - but this doesn't matter during the day when ur out up a mountain. We enjoyed our stay here and we've all said we'd definitely come back! Although we'd probably bring our own pillows next time & I do think it would be nice to have some small touches like a coffee machine with some pods, additional toilet paper, tea bags etc

The bathroom behind the toilet needs a clean and the shower drain also needs some attention. The shower itself was amazing and the bed and bedding immaculately clean and very comfortable. It can't be helped that the walls are thin but over the weekend the neighbours were up into the small hours and it seemed like they were in our accommodation. Over all though a lovely stay thankyou.

Bedrooms a little dated and could definitely do with heavier/lined curtains, we have a two year old and we struggled to get him to sleep as the bedroom was so light. He also wakened early for the same reason. TV in lounge is quite poor both in quality of picture and size, very small. All in all these are minor points and we did enjoy our stay in reasonably comfortable accommodation.

I’m very glad you enjoyed your stay at Little Hallgarth and I will definitely look into improving blackout in the bedrooms as you are not the first guests who have commented on this. Best Wishes. Property Owner

Little Halgarth is a lovely wee property and it had everything we needed. We arrived and used the keysafe with no issues. Everything and more is supplied in the kitchen. We absolutely loved the little garden and sat out there most days and nights. The property has a house either side of it but it did feel very private. It was quiet in the mornings and lovely to wake up hearing the river. The beds were super comfy and there was ample wardrobe space for myself, my husband and our daughter. The shower was great and really powerful. Plenty of room in the bathroom too. Towels and bedding all supplied and were super fresh and clean. Washing machine with tumble dryer and dishwasher all in the kitchen. Comfy cushions on the sofas and livingroom had everything that we needed. Lots of lovely art prints throughout the property. Location of the property was fabulous, a quick walk into keswick town centre no more than a few minutes. Wifi was excellent and thats important with a 12 year old! Our daughter loved the twin room, plenty of space for all her lake district purchases! We took our dog with us and she had lots of fun too, having the garden space. Nice garden chairs supplied and they were a godsend as it was hot hot hot while we were there. Parking was not an issue as theres plenty of spaces close to the house. There was never an issue for us in the 2 weeks we were there. We miss Little Hallgarth and really want to get back next year. All of the above said, I would just like to add some constructive points that I feel would only benefit the property. As we were there for 2 weeks, we would have loved a wee retractable washing line to pop washing out, this would obviously save money on energy bills for the owner. The bathroom, although great, could have done with a little more TLC in terms of cleanliness around the external base of the shower and the shower head itself - would benefit from regular cleaning. There was a high pitched low level noise from the toilet when flushed, presumably due to air escaping the system somewhere??? The shrubs at the entrance to the house are extremely overgrown and could do with trimming back. And the property could definitely benefit from a new hoover as Henry wasnt fit for purpose. Staying 2 weeks we felt that we wanted to hoover, if only there a couple of nights then that would be different. Overall, a fabulous wee property that we really want to get back to. We loved our holiday there and many thanks to the owner and Sykes Cottages for a lovely stay.

Only a couple of things we found an issue with. Curtains in both bedrooms did not have blackout linings (or blinds) and therefore rooms were very bright till late on and early morning so difficulty in sleeping then. • "Beautiful cottage in the perfect location and more than adequately equipped."

Securely enclosed back garden provided a safe space for the dog as well as breakfasting in the morning sunshine/ having a post walk chilled out drink in the evening. The town centre was only a five minute walk away through the park with any amount of good walks available straight from the front door. The kitchen was well equipped allowing for plenty of home cooked meals, although you are spoilt for choice if you prefer eating out. The shower was amazing, plenty of powerful hot water in a very roomy cubicle. The sitting was room comfy and furnished with everything you could need to keep a family entertained. Although parking wasn't immediately out the front door it was easily accessible and we didn't have an issue finding space. We would come back in a heart beat, and hope to book up again very soon. Just two house keeping/ maintenance issues; the knob to switch the gas on the fire was broken and we couldn't put it on for the below zero evening we had there..not essential as the central heating system functioned really well (and was easy to control)..but would have been nice. Secondly on stripping the beds on leaving we found the mattress protector covered in hair (not ours) and dust, obviously not having been washed for a while. There were old stains on it too. Not things that would put us off staying but maybe need to be pointed out to management rather than owners? In summary though this is probably the best holiday cottage we have found in the Lakes so far.

We are delighted that you enjoyed ‘Little Hallgarth’. Thankyou very much for your score of 100%. It means a great deal to me, as owner, and also to our housekeeper. We will certainly address the two minor points you made immediately. as a mammamaturgencyurgency. Property Owner

But then I read the reviews, and the visitors book, how can people be so nitterty-pickerty about minor faults & decorations, so mean,Little Hallgarth was perfect in every way (will be 100% when fitted with power shower) but I thought it was still 100%.

Easy walking distance to the town, Lake Derwentwater and the numerous parks around town. We had no issues finding a car parking space, although note that there are roadworks which block the most direct route to the cottage. The kitchen was especially well furnished, with all of the home comforts you would want. The beds in the twin rooms were soft and could do with replacing. Others has mentioned the shower already which could be improved however this didn't have a negative impact on the holiday. Overall a lovely home from home.

The shower water pressure was very poor. Kitchen and bathroom could do with an update. The artificial flower arrangement in the small bedroom either needs to be removed or given a good clean. This is our third stay in as as many years.

The cottage itself has everything required e.g. well equipped kitchen, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, washer/drier and lovely outdoor patio area. The double bed was very uncomfortable with a hard mattress but I guess this is down to preference. The shower could do with being more powerful. Blackout curtains would be a good addition to the bedrooms. Overall, we had a good stay however the cottage was not up to expectations in terms of cleanliness. The whole cottage was very dusty. The many ornaments and fake flowers plus table in the bedroom and stands in bathroom were covered in dust. The shower head needs a good clean as does all the grout in the tiles. There are also notes asking for customers to use the spray provided to wipe down surfaces before leaving but no spray left. Luckily, I took my own spray and bleach plus cloths which I used on arrival (as wasn’t very clean) and before we left as requested.

Could do with a more powerful shower and a larger tv that you can see from both sofas, and curtains in the bedroom that block out the light more. Cottage was clean, comfortable beds and everything else needed for a great stay. The road to the cottage was closed when we went, and I believe had been for some time so we had to go round and find an alternative route. Would have been a nice touch if Sykes had let us know this prior to arrival. All in all a lovely stay though, and would stay again.

The cottage has everything that you need for a relaxing comfortable stay. We love all of the art work in the cottage, its like being in your own gallery. The rear garden area is nice and enclosed and a lovely sun trap. It is in an ideal location, right next to Fitz Park, which is absolutely beautiful. It's only a five minute walk into town, where everything is available. Keswick has some great cafes, pubs and bars. Hope Park is also stunning, leading you down to the lake. The revamped old railway line is just a short walk from the cottage, which as a great walk down to Threlkeld, through lovely scenery. The only thing that I would recommend for the cottage is a power shower. We look forward to going back next year and hopefully we'll have the same good weather.

We were delighted to receive your 100% rating for Little Hallgarth and we are so glad that you have now had three happy holidays there. We just wanted to let you know that other guests have also, previously, mentioned the need for a power shower and we are, therefore, planning to have one installed in January 2022. - Kitchen very dated and unfortunately not cleaned well (grease, finger prints, kettle dirty and broken) - Shower lacked in water pressure - Too many ornaments about As a result, I feel that the property does not deserve the 4 tick rating and at least a new kettle should be urgently provided. Ideally thought the whole kitchen (including cutting boards, plates, mugs, etc) could do with an update.

I am extremely sorry that you felt that Little Hallgarth did not meet your expectations, but I just wanted to let you know that, in fact, I had already ordered new crockery, glassware and chopping boards for the kitchen and am currently awaiting delivery. I am also aware that it is time to update the kitchen and am in discussions with a kitchen designer with a view to doing renewal works in January 2022. Similarly, I had also, already, arranged for installation of a power shower, as this has come up previously in other peoples reviews. There were far too many ornaments and pictures, we are in our 70's ourselves but to have Toby jugs and patterned plates on picture rails everywhere is old fashioned. When I stripped the double bed down the quilt needed to be replaced or cleaned. This all might seem picky but the place was not cheap and quite honestly we have stayed in far better houses for less. The one good thing about the house is its location which is absolutely perfect, the river is behind the house and two fabulous parks and the swimming pool are just a couple of minutes walk away, plus it is only 5 minutes walk into the town centre which could not be better. Some maintenance on the outside and replacing of cushions and things that heave been there for quite a while would help the place a lot.
