"Exceptional Cottage, Fantastic Location, Highly Recommend
4 adults and one well behaved dachshund stayed here for 5 nights from the 13/04/2026."
Upon entering the property we were overwhelmed by the sheer size of the cottage. Downstairs is mainly open plan including a huge and well equipped kitchen which leads into a very spacious dining room and then a few steps down into an enormous lounge. All 3 bedrooms were very large, as were the 2 bathrooms. From the main bedroom you had spectacular views over to Skiddaw. The garden was lovely and enclosed, which is particular handy when you have your furry friend staying with you! The cottage is located in the lovely and quiet village of Thornthwaite, with only a short drive into Keswick. We all had a fantastic and very enjoyable stay and will definitely be returning.
Thank you for a wonderful review, we are very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us at Gallery Cloisters and we look forward to seeing you when you come back to visit.

"A super place to stay
We had a family get together and had a wonderful time."
Hosts were very welcoming called the day before offering baby items (travel cot) etc. which saved our daughter bringing from home, even when not in listing. The baby quickly learned to climb the steps between the ground floor levels.
Lots of lovely walks nearby and close enough to Keswick but not too near.
No negative comments (we couldn’t find a roasting dish but managed with a shallower baking tray and lots of foil - slightly picky cook created a great roast chicken dinner)
We will come again

"A beautiful property which we would return to in a heartbeat."
Warm, clean, comfortable and huge! The owners were very friendly and chatty when we visited them in the gallery. Also incredible views across to Skiddaw.
The ONLY constructive feedback we could give would be having the fridge freezer actually in the kitchen area. Maybe where the drawer unit? It saves a trek into the utility room.
Thank you for a truly wonderful stay.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Gallery Cloisters."
I would say it was the best equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. The utility room was very handy with it being such a wet week as it was so warm that our clothes dried off in no time. In fact, the whole cottage was very warm and cosy. Lots of places for dog walking straight from the cottage. The Gallery next door was lovely for coffee & cakes plus you get 10% off anything in there being as we were staying in the holiday cottage. The views to Skiddaw from the main bedroom were beautiful & the bed so comfortable that we didn't want to get up in the morning. It was so quiet and peaceful there that we had excellent nights sleep. We would definitely recommend it & will be staying there again.

"What can I say, this place was everything and more."
Spotlessly clean, had everything you could possibly need or want in every way, great kitchen and huge utility room, great for the dog when coming back after a rainy day walking. Fabulous smart tv, lovely, cosy decor throughout. Gorgeous bedrooms and shower, lovely garden with great views, unfortunately not able to benefit from on this visit due to the awful weeks weather we had but hopefully next time we will be able to sit out and enjoy. We could not fault the cottage and would definitely love to return. The only reason I rated 3 for comfort was because we thought the sofa although looks lovely we found it a little uncomfortable but that's just a personal preference.
Thank you for your lovely review. It’s very much appreciated. Really sorry that you didn’t find the sofa as comfortable as you’d have liked and it affected your comfort during your stay. It’s a recent addition so it’s disappointing it’s not for you.

"Excellent home from home accommodation in an ideal location, the only negative point was that the kitchen lights kept tripping for the first few days and we had to go to the fuse box to reset them."
Thank you for taking time to leave a positive review. Really sorry about the lights. It was a mystery but our maintenance team seem to have got to the bottom of it now.

"Gallery Cloisters was the perfect base for our family holiday and Paul was an excellent host from start to finish."
The photos don't do this property justice: every room is spacious, beautiful and comfortable! Beds were large and comfortable. Showers were great. We were delighted to be able to walk to Bassenthwaite Lake and up into Whinlatter Forest without getting in the car. Wheelchair access in and out of the property was good (for anyone who, like me, only uses their chair to mobilise outdoors) and the large utility room had ample space to store a chair or scooter. Having the gallery and tea room right next door was a lovely bonus, and very handy on check-out day for a late breakfast! Would highly recommend.
Super feedback, thank you so much!
Hope to see you again soon!

"Overall, a fantastic property that, had everyone turned up (3 could not stay in the end) would have been perfect for our needs."
Lots and lots of space, great drying room/utility/dog room. Some nice touches, including the power blinds on the first floor! The main shower was prefect after a long day walking. Definitely, try the toasted cheese scones in the gallery. Our only criticism was that the main double bed had the hardest mattress we have ever slept in. Note for the owners: the oven fan sounds like the bearings are going and the kitchen tap washer may need replacing.

"We really enjoyed our stay at this property."
It was very clean and spacious. We very much appreciated the extras provided, such as a carton of milk in the fridge, some biscuits and plenty of toilet rolls! Also loved the Bath House products provided in the bathrooms. The house is well situated for Keswick, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. Hopefully we will be back next year.

"A very lovely house to stay in, especially the beautiful living space downstairs and the view from the main bedroom."
Parking right outside; kitchen well equipped; beds comfortable; lots of wardrobe and storage space; showers good. Lounge seating nice but would likely be a bit of a squash for 6. The fridge is in the utility room, up a couple of steps and across the hall from the kitchen - not a problem for us but not as convenient as if it were in the kitchen. The 2nd bathroom (shower) is on the ground floor and adequate but quite small.
No folder provided with information on the house (eg instructions for heating or equipment) or local information.
We had our own plan for our week but I’ve also never stayed in a cottage in the Lake District with no books of walks or local recommendations! I always enjoy leafing through these and discovering new ideas.
Overall a lovely house that we would be very happy to return to.
Thank you for taking time to write your review and we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay.
We always take on board constructive feedback and where appropriate, we endeavour to continually improve the accommodation. We did check to make sure the information folder was in the house and we found it was in the kitchen area but a good reminder for us to ensure it’s in an obvious place for our guests and also to add some “what’s on” leaflets which hadn’t been replaced for this season. We look forward to welcoming you back at Cloisters in the near future.

"We felt it was a little tired and the chairs in the lounge were not that comfortable otherwise met our requirements"
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I’m really sorry you felt that way about our cottage. The sofa is new and is from “Loaf” so we are disappointed you found that it wasn’t comfortable.
I did speak to Mrs Grundy before you left and she told me you were very happy with your stay and the cottage. We will definitely take on board your comments and will check through to see what may be updated going forward. I believe the photos are a clear representation of the accommodation but again will check this also.

"Firstly this is a lovely property that is generously proportioned and is lovely and warm."
We very much enjoyed our stay. None of our feedback would deter us from booking again. Here are the things that houskeeping/maintenace could take on board to earn the property 5 stars instead of 4.
- The property takes dogs and the welcome pack asks dog owners to clean up after their pooch(s). However, oversights do happen. The garden should be checked between bookings to confirm this has been done. We had to clear up a heap of someone else's doggy jobbies.
- There are two bathrooms. We arrived to find less than half a loo roll between them.
- It would be nice to provide some kitchen roll on the holder
- The resident spiders are very industrious. The cleaning regime should keep on top of these pesky critters
- Two bulbs not working in the main bedroom. One dim bulb in the kitchen. Bulbs should be checked and replaced if necessary between bookings
- Downstairs shower has missing grout and some black mould that needs attention.
Thank you for taking your time to give us you feedback. WE have taken your comments on board. Hope to see you again soon.

"Just wow. Was dubious about booking this property as at time of booking it had no reviews as yet, but we took a risk and so glad we did."
Reason for no reviews was it was new to the holiday letting market.
Immaculate property, newly decorated and new fittings and fixtures. Tastefully furnished, bright and airy. Just wonderful.
Amazing hosts not too far away always on hand to help or answer questions.
We stayed as a family of 4 with two young children and they loved it too.
We will definitely be back.
Thank you!
