  • "Barn Owl Cottage is simply beautiful."

Myself, husband and 2 children stayed here for one week and we had such a wonderful time. Seeing the horses everyday was a highlight for my daughter. Great area too, local pubs and cafes in the surrounding towns are lovely.

  • "Delightful little cottage which is well equipped with everything that you need for a home away from home."

The owners are friendly and helpful and on hand for anything that you need. The fresh farm eggs left for us, along with a lovely jug of flowers on the kitchen table, were a nice touch. Parking outside the cottage is ample for two cars. If you like a lie in it is worth noting that this is a working farm and noisy with farm traffic from around 6am. The farm is also just off a surprisingly busy road which can also be noisy, especially if you are sleeping on the mezzanine with the roof window open. However we soon got used to this and is a small price to pay for a lovely rural setting with chickens wandering around, the friendly farm dogs popping in for a visit and horses coming past the kitchen window. Plenty to do in the local area for walkers and if walking isn't your thing, there are plenty of places to visit if you want to drive. Southport had some lovely tea rooms and the pretty seaside town of Lytham-St-Annes is only about an hour's drive away (with Blackpool being only an extra ten minutes).

  • "A wonderful stay for a family of 4 over Christmas."

. The free range eggs and flowers a lovely welcome touch . A beautifully decorated, well equipped cottage to a high standard . The animals (horses and chickens) are a lovely extra for children to wake up to every morning. Close to the bus stop for trips out to local stations for Ormskirk, Liverpool and Preston if not wanting to drive. Pubs in walking distance and stunning scenery for canal walks. Looking forward to our return visit, thanks to host Cliff and Claire.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Barn Owl."

The accomodation was beautiful presented, well equipped, clean and set in gorgeous countryside. The small outdoor seating faces east so would have been lovely for breakfast if the weather had been better. The couple we shared with did mention the downstairs bedroom lacked a bit of privacy as it was opposite and near the stables. On a personal viewpoint we found the pillows to be uncomfortable but others may disagree. However overall we would highly recommend the cottage and would stay again if in the area.

Very friendly owners of this working farm.would be heaven for anyone interested in horses or fishing. Plenty to do in immediate area including an excellent collection of independent traders within walking distance. Access to Liverpool via a very rural train service from station within 2 miles. The local folk we met were all extremely friendly. A part of the country that is well worth a visit.

It is on a working farm so be prepared to be woken by the sound of horses going out on their trek. On the doorstep are two interesting shops. Would recommend the cottage to anyone, there are also two other cottages on the site which look equally gorgeous.

Set in a rural location but with good links to all attractions in the area. The cottage has everything you need, it’s well equipped, beautifully furnished and provides a comfortable stay and exceptional value for money. Lovely seeing the horses go back and forth to their stables each day. Can also highly recommend the local pub for amazing evening meals. Will definitely return if in the area and it’s available.

Owners are very friendly and helpful. Very comfortable cottage with all the facilities we needed. Complimentary eggs, ground coffee and biscuits were a real treat. Pub and farm shop within a 5 minute walk. Farm shop has a great range of local produce, beers and wines. There is also butchers located within the shop. Had a great meal at the pub - I would recommend booking as it is popular. Great wi-fi and off road parking directly outside the cottage. For those who enjoy fishing, there are 3 ponds on site that you can fish for free. Lovely countryside surrounding the cottage with lots to do and see in the area. Note: the cottage is located on a working farm.

Absolutely beautiful cottage, situated in lovely surroundings. The cottage was spotless and little added touches like the box of cookies and complimentary eggs from the chicken were wonderful! The owners, Cliff and Claire, were so welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Even when we found our car wouldn't start in the morning - Cliff dutifully brought out his tractor and helped us on our way. Would definitely recommend staying here and would love to stay again ourselves in the not too distant future. Joanna, Southport.

Proprietors are very attentive but never intrusive. Location is excellent for coastal visits and country arts, crafts and food farms.

There is plenty around to do if you feel like being active, lovely walks and pubs, an extremely well stocked local farm shop with a butchers. One thing I would say is that this is a working farm so there is some noise, didn't bother us much but it starts pretty early so if you like a lie in take some earplugs :)
