"We had a very relaxing stay at the Byre."
The large bed was particularly comfortable. It was lovely having the fire in the kitchen/living room as the storage heaters were tricky to manage. We did find the sofa and chairs tired and uncomfortable after a long day of walking. On the whole we had a great time with our four legged friend and would recommend as plenty of walks in the area and close to the Lake District. The pubs all seemed to be dog friendly which is great if you are looking for eating out. Equally the kitchen at the Byre is very well equipped.
"What a lovely place."
We stayed in The Byres & had a smashing time. Very clean & tidy with everything you need to enjoy a break. A vacuum cleaner would be an added bonus to be able to keep it clean & tidy during your stay. The dog proof garden was an absolute godsend. We will visit again.
"We have stayed at this location before, in Swallows Cottage."
We booked the Byre, whilst a new boiler was being fitted at our home. This accommodation is ideally located and is close to both Northumberland and the Lake District. Accommodation was clean, homely and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and after a days exploring, relaxed in our surroundings. Dog friendly too, for the little feller and his first holiday. Would stay again and recommend to others. Thank you to the Ackerley's.
"The property was warm and comfortable, every thing was there that was needed."
Some great walks from the location and the local village of Brampton had all you needed from shops, post offices, pub etc. The owners were also great when the were any questions.
"Lovely cottage, and host."
Good, quiet location with plenty to do near by.
"Great location very close to Hadrian’s wall , short drive to the Lake District."
The cottage was clean and homely with everything you would need. We had a dog with us and the garden was secure for him. The people I spoke to about check in were very friendly and advised that we could could call them if we needed anything.
"Whilst the cottage has everything needed to cook etc, it lies on a very busy and noisy road."
We’re used to that so it didn’t bother us. To my mind new mattresses are required on all beds, the singles especially, and a new duvet on the king size bed. The outside balcony has wire mesh on the wooden base. I kept tripping over it as it lifted at the edge in places. Also the side wooden fence on the balcony is not safe as it moves. It wouldn’t take much for someone to lean on it and it gives way. In general the cottage is adequate but is tired and in need of a refurb.
"The cottage was very nice."
Spacious rooms, nice and comfortable big bed and large TV. It was in a good location close to a lot of nice areas for dog walking and sight seeing. One minor complaint was that the provision of DVD player and radio were advertised but not available and we were told we had Netflix on a smart TV. However for the first 3 days we could not access it. The owners were very helpful and once it had been sorted it was a reasonable replacement. We would suggest details are updated on your site.
"Internet did not work , but owner was helpful to make it work for us."
The Toilet flush handle did not funtion proper, took some doing put managed to make it work , just was a stuggle each time. Everything else was very good, lots of room , Clean , owner was helpful,
"Comfortable and convenient location with very hospitable host."
Well equipped and furnished. Lovely rural setting.
"The cottage was well equipped and spotlessly clean."
Beds were very comfortable and we especially appreciated the large fridge/ freezer as we did a lot of our own cooking given the current situation. The dishwasher was therefore also very welcome! Mabel made sure we were happy with everything and she gave some wonderful advice on where to visit locally. The location is also superb, we explored all around the Sollway Estuary both on the English and Scottish side and both Carlisle and Dumfries are easy drives from here. The nearby town of Brampton is also a delightful place. We look forward to coming back!
"Very beautiful cottage we all loved it."
Very chilled out and loads to do inside cottage. Hot tub was great but could of been better if all jets worked. Other than that I couldn't complain. We will be returning
"We really enjoyed our stay here, the owners were very helpful, giving some nice places to visit, where our puppy would enjoy a walk, and most likely go back!"
"Just got back from a fabulous few days away at The Byre."
Easy to find and lots of parking available. We were shown straight to our cottage and the lady was very informative about the surrounding area and which places to visit. Cottage was lovely, clean and cosy. Perfect for dogs as the garden was very enclosed. We will definitely be back.
"We had a fantastic holiday weekend at this beautiful cottage."
The cottage itself was cosy, beautifully decorated, spotless clean and to top it all had a lovely wood burning fire. Fantastic location for exploring Hadrians Wall and Roman Ruins, and great walks for taking my dog Storm exploring. Will definitely be back next summer and might even try out the hot tub next time. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.
"We loved it!"
Great location to head off to the rest of the Lakes and up to Scotland. Cottage is nice, clean and spacious. Having our own enclosed garden was perfect to our dog. Kitchen is well equipped. Owners were very helpful. We will be back next year! Good dining options within a few miles. WiFi is good, smart TV was a bonus.
"Very comfortable, private and cosy cottage with enclosed garden which was great for our dog."
Location is fantastic for all things Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle and gorgeous countryside and there are plenty of other attractions if you get time. Would like to go back there again.
"Excellent cottage and facilities."
The pictures on the site do not really do it justice, the cottage was much larger and more attractive, inside and out, than we expected. The owners were really friendly and helpful and made us feel really welcome. The location is excellent for walking and history, Hadrians wall is almost on your doorstep and the surrounding countryside is really stunning. We would recommend the cottage and the location to anybody.

Cottage was wonderful made a grate base for exploring Only thing missing was a vacume so that we could tidy up before we left
"We came last year for a long weekend and liked it so much we booked up again as soon as we got home!"
Lovely little cottage, owners very friendly and welcoming. Enclosed garden great for the dogs and location is perfect.
"My children and I had a fabulous break, the owners were wonderful and very helpful."
"We loved our family (of four, kids 6 & 9 years) stay for three nights, cottage had everything we needed."
Cooked In two nights. Also used the hot tub, and although it is shared we had no difficulties using it and it was a lovely relaxing addition. The open fire was great, and the owners had stocked with plenty of wood, which lasted our stay. We also stayed with our two dogs (agreed by owner), the cottage was perfect for them as it had a secure garden. The rooms were very spacious. The only slight issue we had was that the toilet flush wasn’t working very well. Owners there to help if needed.
"Would be nice to have a window that opens in the main open plan area of The Byre."
Otherwise the only option for ventilation is having the door open. The access to The Byre is not really suitable for people with mobility issues. Well equipped holiday home with the benefit of a full size bath and a separate shower.
"Had an amazing weekend with my friends we all loved it and said we will definitely be going back with our families"
"The owners were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, the cottages were finished to a high standard , and we will definitely be going back !"
"Lovely cottage, very comfortable, loved the log burning stove"
"Lovely comfortable cottage, enclosed garden was ideal with having dog."
Owners very helpful and quick to respond when we had problem with TV and this was resolved in no time. Water pressure wasn't great but other than that we loved it and will definitely be back.
"The location was fantastic, the owners were more than welcoming."
Beautiful cottage that had everything, the owners thought of everything. Thank you very much would definitely recommend The Byre.

The pictures don't really do this cottage justice when we got there the lovely lady owner showed us round and I was very surprised how lovely it really was would definitely go back
"The bathroom had some issues: the cold sink tap constantly ran, the mixer tap on the bath did not work (could only fill using the shower head) and upon arrival, we had to clean the shower cubicle."
"A very warm welcome and a lovely place to stay."
Very clean and well kept. The only issue we had was that Unfortunately the WiFi wasn't working whilst we were there. We will definitely be re visiting at some point in the future. Would be a great place also if you were a large group

About the location
Brampton 2 miles; Hadrian's Wall 7 miles; Carlisle 11 miles.
The small rural village of Milton is ideally placed for exploring northern Cumbria, including not-to-be-missed Hadrian's Wall, the lovely coastline of the Solway Firth and the dramatic northern Lake District National Park. The nearby market town of Brampton has a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border raiders from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings. Bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton, which is now a shop. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 180 acres, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Further south is Gelt Woods which is an ancient woodland with the River Gelt running through. A superb base for exploring this historic and scenically beautiful area.
