"A really nice and big cottage."
Everything is like dicribed,2 Terraces. Good for exploring the Arena. Hope to come back again

"We absolutely loved our stay here, we found the facilities to be more than perfect everything we could have possible needed was provided including leaflets for nearby attractions etc."
This barn is BEAUTIFUL
-
"Loved it , would love to come back so peaceful and pubs within walking distance and Abergavenny 5 minutes drive, cottage had everything and lovely comfy bed ."
Thanks
-
"What a lovely place to stay, only 3 miles from Abergavenny."
Plenty of stunning walks around the cottage. The owners just leave you to your own devices but were always around if you wanted them. Would definitely recommend the barn to others.
-
"The Barn is in a great location for accessing Brecon Beacons."
However, as some of the previous reviews have suggested, it's in need of some updating. Rear garden is fully enclosed but there may be sheep in surrounding fields. Unable to sit outside at front due to strong smell of oil from tank.

"On first glance everything looked OK."
Kitchen facilities were good, fridge clean . Space was fantastic. Location good. Not so good lounge carpet is so worn and stained . Beds too soft. Shower screen was not clean ingrained water marks across it all. Obviously not cleaned for months plus seal at bottom that old was disintegrating. All sink taps and plughole dirty underneath. Throughout the property hundreds of cobwebs and spiders especially around windows and corners. Leather chair in lounge spilt across seat. Whole property could do with a thorough spring clean.

"Excellent in every respect!"

"It's the second time at the Barn."
Beautiful setting. We were very comfortable, we had everything we needed. Fabulous. Thank you.
-
"The Ward family were so kind in their hospitality allowing us special conditions to have my wife's family come to see us at the Barn."
We are forever grateful to Windy for her understanding and generosity in letting us catch up after not seeing family for 10 years. Kindest regards, Michael & Angela Phillips

"Thank you for the stay, the fan in the bottom loo wasn't working."
We had a relaxing time, even got out between the rain showers. Louise and Martin

"Lovely barn to stay at."
Great walks and things to do.
-
"We had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at The Barn."
It’s a very peaceful and relaxing place, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Abergavenny and Crick Howell are both good to visit and are only three or four miles away. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful when I spoke to her then left us to get on with holiday. The cottage was very clean and everything was there that we needed. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful holiday.
-
"Peaceful and relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings."
Spacious, comfortable and well equipped property. Well located for Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Wye Valley etc. Would definitely return if in the area.

Beautiful cottage very cosy, well equipped had a lovely relaxing holiday, owner was very helpful and friendly, highly recommend
-
"The cottage was extremely comfortable and very welcoming."
Location is perfect for walking and visiting nearby towns and attractions. Hosts were very helpful and welcoming without being intrusive. Parking right outside cottage. We will look forward to returning in the future.
-
"The property was spacious, clean and in a beautiful setting."
It is in an a good situation for visiting the Brecons. From the picture we anticipated a larger garden area but the garden was a narrow strip behind the property. The front of the property is available for guests to sit out but the open space directly in front of the property is for cars, and horse vans so not ideal. This was disappointing, as we had a child and two dogs with us. The outdoor chairs and table need varnishing or replacing . We didn’t use them as they looked so worn and dingy . This wasn’t great considering the lovely views we had around us. Guests need to follow the Sykes directions exactly as the Sat nav won’t help. The entrance is concealed on a busy road.
-
"The location and barn was lovely and we had a super stay there."
The host was also very sweet and hospitable. The only thing that could have been a bit better was the tv which did not work very often as it kept asking for a card. Nevertheless, we watched some of the super videos and got into Harry Potter for the stay! I would definitely stay here again as it was very convenient for everywhere we wanted to go. As well as having a walk up to the Sugarloaf (which we did not have time for this trip) - Lovely memories though and a super location.
-
"Overall an excellent place to stay , had a lovely break there, beautiful scenery and so peaceful, my dogs loved it !"
Host was very friendly and welcoming. Cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. You do need a car if you want to explore the local area but there are plenty of places to see, would definitely return.
-
"We loved the stay at the barn."
The view is magical! The owners are lovely and helpful. We are definitely coming back in the future
-
"The photos suggest the rear garden is huge but it isn’t."
Although the inside of the property was clean it was tired, drab and dated. The single beds were awful in that they are cheap soft mattresses that offered little support. The sky lights in the bedroom had no blinds so there was no way of shutting out the light. The double bedroom was dark, dreary and very dated. The outside of the property lacked maintenance. The property was functional but lacked care. The linen, towels and carpet were all tired which was a theme that sums up the property.
-
"A beautiful escape with lots of space inside and out."
The Barn has all you need and lovely hosts next door. Welcoming and friendly without being intrusive. Perfect.
-
"Chris and family were all very friendly and particularly accommodating with the arrival of our Canadian friends."
Chris was also so tolerant and patience with my total lack of understanding the Sky television set up. So many thanks for a very enjoyable stay. It's a delightful cottage and extremely well appointed.
-
"Nice stay,clean and painted."
nice propety.

"We booked the barn for 7 nights, only stayed 1night!"
! We parked outside the green oil tank where most holiday people seem to park. Our new car which we'd had only for 1 week was severely damaged by a hit and run driver on the owners big carpark during the night. We are now facing a hefty repair cost. This was reported to the police. It spoilt our long awaited holiday, there were no witnesses and no cctv. Sykes not interested in any form of compensation. It's upset us and even though we haven't had any problem here before, I know we won't be visiting again. The Barn itself is exactly as pictured, some things need repair or replacement.
-
"An absolute gem."
Such a gorgeous cottage in a fabulous location. The converted barn is so spacious and roomy, all mod cons and WiFi, with picturesque surroundings. Perfect for any family, and your four legged friend. So much to see and do in the Brecons, and this is an ideal spot. We loved our week. Thank you.
-
"The Barn is a lovely place so homely this is the second time we have been here and its so lovely and quiet lovely to see the lambs and horses ."
We will be back soon
-
"The barn is a lovely place to stay."
Would of preferred a bigger back garden area the picture on the web does make it appear bigger than it is. Would like more info on where to put the recylable rubbish and food rubbish. But loved the place so much have booked another stay.
-
"We found owners of cottage to be quite rude."
Son called with bin liners and advised his mother dealt with the greeting of guests and would be over soon but never did introduce herself. Never left key to access rear patio doors so after finding key to back door had to let dogs out through back door which was not convenient. Owners dogs were allowed to run freely in front of property and would be unsuitable when not advised if anyone was renting cottage that was nervous of dogs. All plates were chipped. The cottage itself and location was great
-
"We had a wonderful stay at the barn."
Beautiful location. Very spacious accommodation well equipped and comfortable. Owners extremely helpful. Everything we had hoped for. Hope to return in the new year.
-
"A nice, spacious barn conversion in the National Park."
However from my own point of view two vital drawbacks in that the wifi never worked and the vast network of footpaths from the rear of the property were unattainable and blocked off. The entrance to the driveway of the property is unmarked and on a fast road and you need to be very careful. Owner Wendy was nice and friendly but there were no welcome items such as milk and biscuits that I have always had in previous Sykes properties.
-
"This is the 2nd time we have stayed and we have booked again next year."
Always welcoming, plenty of space exactly as pictures show. Loads of room for parking outside the property leading up from a narrow gravel track from the A40 (no sign for it so use the Powys border one as a marker) The Barn was cosy and lovely and warm, the heating being on most of the time. The new mattresses were a medium to soft which suited us. The only thing they could do with is a clock in the livingroom and curtains in the twin bedroom as the sensor light from the owners property lights up the bedroom during the night from the wildlife passing by. There is a small strip of grass at the back approached by steps, our dog found them quite steep being elderly so I took her out the front most of the time. Views of sheep and horses from the patio doors in the livingroom give a lovely site on a wet day and the mountains through the trees at the front. We are looking forward to going again next year. Abergavenny about 4miles has everything plus free parking on Byfield Lane carpark except, Tuesday Market day.
-
"The cottage was lovely and comfortable it had everything that we needed the sound of the horse's and sheep were nice the owner was very welcoming."
This was our first time in Wales but we are going to book again
-
"Very spacious and well equipped cottage."
We had a really lovely stay and were so grateful for the weather, a chance to explore the beautiful surroundings and countryside and come back to comfort and peace. Wendy and crew and their lovely dogs were quietly around if we needed them . My comments are minor We recommend A. fitting retractable blackout blinds to the bedroom roof velux windows B. Providing garden recliners eg https://www.therange.co.uk/outdoor-living/garden-furniture/garden-chairs/set-of-2-heavy-duty-textoline-zero-gravity-chairs/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwuO6WBhDLARIsAIdeyDLXhg81DD_EIxMzvQaUS8Dgf0GTehG0yqH-PnyKI_18Yyn_-o7hW-waAvjyEALw_wcB#5258528 C. Sharpen the kitchen knives! D. Sand down and resrain/paint the garden furniture Here is a little suggestion - the local area is so beautiful. Ask guests to send you photos of any beautiful scenes and then turn these in to large framed picture photos to hang throughout the cottage rather than the odd and very mixed assortment of pictures you currently have. One final comment - the floor vinyl in the kitchen and utility is significantly ripped in several places, and is loose.

"The Barn was absolutely fabulous."
Such a peaceful holiday but the owners were always on hand if we wanted anything. We were very relaxed within the first hour of being there. Our two Jack Russells Gypsy and Molly thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the secure garden. The views were unbelievable!
-
"We really loved staying here Our hosts were welcoming friendly and helpful We found the accommodation very spacious adequate and central for our walking."
Highly recommend this lovely quiet place
-
"Very spacious and very well equipped."
Excellent location, we spent a week here and every day we were very happy. The host was very accommodating and made us all feel welcome. We brought our cat with us as we often do and the host was made us all feel very welcome. The washing machine was very useful and two toilets was a very nice surprise. The double bed was a little on the soft side, so if you like that then you will be extremely happy, we would have preferred firmer beds/matress.
-
"Lovely cottage, spacious, clean, quiet."
Great location for mountain walks, garden was secure for the dog, handy for places to visit, would definitely revisit. Thanks.
-
"This was our second visit to The Barn and we enjoyed another comfortable holiday here."
Our dog also enjoyed her holiday and seemed happy in the garden watching the sheep. The owner is very friendly and accommodating.
-
"The Barn is an extremely spacious and private accommodation surrounded by beautiful countryside."
It has everything you need for a peaceful getaway in beautiful Brecons. The owners next door were friendly and approachable, on hand if you needed them but also gave you privacy to enjoy your holiday. Our labrador was safe exploring the enclosed garden (normally barking at the sheep!) It would be great to visit again in the warmer months so we can explore the footpaths to the rambling walks because we had to navigate the busy A40 at the end of the property entrance to go anywhere off site on foot or to get to places by car. A beautiful part of the world!
-
"Excellent communication with the owners, clear instructions etc."
Property in a good location, quiet countryside but near enough to main roads, shops restaurants etc. The Barn is larger than the pictures show and we were pleased to have the extra downstairs toilet and utility room. The well fenced garden gave us peace of mind whilst our little Westie was in it. Although it was not the weather to sit out we imagine it would be lovely in summer. The addition of a dishwasher and a larger dining table would make the property even better. We are used to very firm mattresses and pillows so it was disappointing to find the beds very soft-but don't take this as a problem as its surely down to one's preferences. Parking is right outside the front terrace. Owners discrete but available if needed. We enjoyed a lovely break at this property and would most certainly book again.
-
"Comfortable and warm."
An ideal property to take a dog, the enclosed garden was really helpful. Well situated to enjoy lots of different walks a short drive away. We were disappointed that the main footpath from the property was so overgrown that it was not useable as we were hoping to be able to walk from the property which was not possible. We would book to stay again.
-
"Great property in splendid picturesque location"
-
"Nice clean, good place to stay, would say again."
-
"We had a lovely stay at The Barn for a week and wished we had booked longer."
The Barn is very spacious and in a beautiful location, with shops close by and lots of lovely walks. All amenities catered for. The owner was friendly and welcoming and was at hand if needed, whilst giving us space to enjoy our stay. Would highly recommend and stay there again. Thank you.
-
"Beautiful accommodation and in a wonderful location."
Views are also wonderful from every window. No complaints at all. Thank you Mrs Burt for a great stay. We hope to visit again Chris Marion Robert Duncan and Hattie
-
"This barn desperately needs new beds sad to say."
Numerous people have mentioned it over the last few years but still no change. The double is very soft with no support and the singles you can feel the springs on them and are extremely soft with a collapsing feel . I had backache all week normally no trouble with it. The owners are welcoming, but no welcome pack as in other places we've been, just a small amount of tea coffee and sugar. There's plenty of room to park, but the entrance needs a sign on the track. I know the area well, but we still shot past it, as its opposite the powys sign from Aber, or the yellow 40 sign from Crick. It is the same as the pictures open plan loads of room. They have 4 welcoming dogs and several cats. The back strip of grass on the secured patio is steep to get to and was not big enough for my 2 cavs to have a gallop. I know there was no dish washer, but there was no washing up liquid provided, a good job I took some with me, yet washing powder was provided for the washing machine.
-
"We have now stayed at the barn for the third time in less than 12 months."
This is fast becoming a family favourite ! It is a peaceful setting with lovely views plus a highly convenient location for getting to Crickhowell and Abergavenny. The friendly and helpful owners live in the next door farmhouse.
-
"The Barn was very comfortable and homely."
It worked very well for our family and dog. The small enclosed garden was perfect for letting the dog out first thing while you are still in your pyjamas. The surrounding views of the hills and fields were lovely. We had most of our meals out in Crickhowell which is a gorgeous spot with really good independent local shops for food and gifts. We had excellent meals in The Bear and also The Dragon which were both dog friendly. The Barn is very well placed to explore the area. Sugarloaf mountain is beautiful and close by. We also drove for days out hiking at Pen y Fan, Cribbyn and the Four Waterfalls. Fantastic holiday.
-
"Entrance not easy to find ."
Superb location for Brecon Beacons , Sugar loaf , Abergavenny for shops lovely countryside
-
"Lovely location and views."
Would get 5* from us if there was a better double mattress ...
-
"A most enjoyable stay at the Barn."
Well located and comfortable, we loved being right in the middle of a working farm, waking up to the sound of sheep almost directly outside the back door.
-
"Locks on the toilet doors would be an improvement."
Excellent area to holiday in
-
"The Barn was set in a very pleasant situation, with horses and sheep all around, the garden was fenced in allowing are dog to enjoy the peace and quiet as we sat enjoying a drink and taking in the view of the hills and woodland."
The accommodation was clean, well thought out, with every little thing you would need for your holiday,Laura was available to rectify any problem(we didn't have any)and very friendly. There was plenty of eating places and shopping was easy, especially with Morrisons super market nearby. We have recommended this pleasant accommodation to our friends and family.
-
"Beautiful accommodation with wonderfully friendly hosts."
Great location with plenty to do around you and great facilities within the barn. Would highly recommend for a family getaway. Thank you.
-
"A lovely, spacious barn conversation with everything you need."
Very comfy and warm for cold evenings/nights. The Host was very friendly and welcoming. The holiday cottage was in an ideal situation for travelling to towns around mid Wales - Abergavenny, Breacon, Hay, etc. We were lucky with the weather as well - only rained on one afternoon!
-
"Lovely accommodation and location."
Great for the dogs and good time was had by all.
-
"Very enjoyable time at The Barn which was in a good position for getting to shops and exploring the local area."
Very secure fencing which was perfect for our dog. The one thing that was missing was a welcome pack which we have always had in a cottage before.
-
"An excellent Cottage for people who want to walk"
-
"The Barn is a home from home much thought has been given by the owners to ensuring everything you need is provided ."
There are lovely walks nearby our dog enjoyed the holiday as much as we did. Shopping can be found in Abergavenny which is only 5 to 10 minutes away by car. On a clear night one can enjoy stargazing.
-
"The Barn is in a lovely spot and is very quiet."
Easy stroll to a good pub. It was nice to wake up and see sheep and ponies grazing in the neighbouring fields. It is centrally placed for lots of walks in the Black mountains and the market town of Abergavenny is just a couple of miles away.
-
"Quiet and peaceful location, the barn is very spacious with good facilities to easily accommodate four people."
easy access to Abergavenny and the Black Mountains.
-
"We very much enjoyed beautiful views up the hill in back and across the valley in front through large windows."
Lounge was very roomy and comfortable. Our visit was in the end of October, but the cottage was warm and cosy. We also appreciated the utility/mudroom for cleaning our dog up after walks. The farm the cottage is on is clean and tidy (didn't see piles of rubbish lying around). There is a public footpath leading up into the hills. The owner is friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Directions: We rang the owner and got very good directions. Found the cottage on the first try.
-
"Really spacious place to stay , very convenient position , very dog friendly and we would go again."
-
"The directions to get to The Barn are poorly explained."
We had to go onto GoogleEarth to locate the very small entrance which has no sign directing you off the A40. Wendy had provided everything you need for a very enjoyable stay including a massive collection of DVD
-
"Fabulous location for us."
Well resourced. Good facilities and everything you could need to make our stay comfy and enjoyable. Friendly and helpful. (Tricky to find as postcode vague. Maybe suggest explaining driveway is opposite big council road sign/label? ) Thank you Sharon
-
"Had a really good time ."
A couple of minor issues bed mattress too soft so aggravated an ongoing back issue . I think the track to the cottage needs a sign post as would be very difficult to locate in the dark . Otherwise the cottage was really nice
-
"The location was excellent and the cottage very spacious."
Wendy was very helpful. The enclosed garden was very good for our dog, this meant we could have the french windows open in the hot weather. We think a visitors book would be helpful, as it usually gives a good indication of restaurants that people have found to be good and attractions in the locality. Overall a very nice cottage.
-
"The Barn was more than expected apart from the garden."
Smaller than expected and fence not high enough for greyhound dogs as they could have jumped the fence no problem. But that's not taking anything away from the facilities of the Barn itself, which was top class
-
"The location was good within easy reach of Crick Howell and Abergavenny."
The site was very pleasant and quiet with ample parking and lovely views of the surrounding hills.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay at the Barn."
Loved the property and the surrounding area. The owners were lovely and very helpful. Great for the dog. The only minor issue was the mattress on the double bed is past its best. Otherwise would definitely recommend and book again.
-
"Good property with more than adequate rooms."
Road entrance requires attentive driving. Only improvement that we would have liked to see would have been a small fence across the front of the property to be able to sit out in the afternoon sun but still retains privacy . Would definitely use again and recommend
-
"This property is located in a great place to explore the south of Wales."
Also about 30 minutes from Bike Park Wales. Property was spacious and had all the facilities needed for a family holiday with a dog. Would definitely return there.
-

Fantastic holiday, accommodation very clean and spacious, great location for a quiet break , made all the better by the glorious weather
-
"Beautiful barn well worth the visit"
-
"Fantastic area to stay - lovely accommodation, look forward to staying another time."
-
"The accommodation and location was idyllic at the foot of the Brecon Beacons on a small working farm the reason for the stay ,I've recently become a widow and bought a Cockerpoo puppy for a companion and after searching the internet for dog Friendly accommodation I came across the Barn Cottage it seemed perfect so myself and my 89year old mum and her dog had a very relaxing week ,and the owner's kindly let us use an empty field so the dogs had the time of their lives ."
Thankyou Helpful Holidays.
-
"We were really very pleased with the cottage, there are only two things that would improve another stay at the cottage which would be new mattress on the Beds they were not comfortable more so if you have a bad Back as I have."
Also finding the property was very difficult there needs to be something at the end of the drive (the road end) as you can go passed it and not see the entrance..!! as we did three times, we had to ask at the garage up the road and with there help found the drive.
-
"Brilliant cottage but there are a lot of farm cats, something to watch if your dog doesn't like cats."
-
"The owner and family were lovely, happy to stop and chat, let our daughter meet their new foal and their kittens!"
The place itself was spot on for us, plenty of space for 3 people and 2 dogs (collie and spaniel) to relax after long walks. Looking to rebook when we can!
-
"We were disappointed regarding the outdoor space the fron is colourful but ..."
We were disappointed regarding the outdoor space the fron is colourful but faces the parking area not a good view the rear space has very poor space as grass bank steep there is limited seating only the table and chairs so no comfortable space to sit out directions to property very difficult and driveway needs a signpost as hard to spot even when we knew where to look
-
