Newton By The Sea Cottages
Please find below a selection of self catering holiday cottages
in Newton By The Sea, Northumberland.
Welcome to a gem on Northumberland's Heritage Coast,
surrounded by soft sands, dunes rich in wildlife and rocky
headlands. Owned almost exclusively by the National Trust,
whitewashed cottages and an historic pub frame the village green.
Fans of 'Oz and James Drink to Britain' may recognise The
Ship Inn, offering sensational food and ales from its micro
brewery. If you're staying in a Newton-by-the-Sea cottage,
you're bound to visit more than once!
The pub is also the start of two great coastal walks. Turn left,
cross the headland to Beadnell Bay, then on to Seahouses and
Bamburgh Castle. Or turn right to Craster, passing the
extraordinary ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle along the way.
Sheltered by an off-shore reef, the bay at Newton is ideal for
dinghy sailing, sea-kayaking and windsurfing; while surfing, kite
surfing, diving and snorkelling can be enjoyed locally at Embleton
and Beadnell Bays. Other sports include golf at Dunstanburgh Castle
Golf Course and horse riding at Embleton Bay.
Spot all kinds of seabirds, shorebirds and wildfowl at the
Newton Pool Bird Reserve, a freshwater lagoon nature reserve close
to the shore, with spectacular breeding activity during May and
June.
Newton is a fabulous spot to bring children, with sandy beaches
great for paddling, rock pooling and sandcastle building. Catch
your supper and fish from the rocks. Take a moonlit stroll along
the beach and listen out for seals. In summer, look out for family
events and wildlife walks.
Then round off your day with a comfortable night's sleep in
your Newton-by-the-Sea cottage, ready for tomorrow's
adventure.
