Stamford Hill was fought just outside of Poughill on 16th May 1643.
Each year, on the closest Sunday to the anniversary, the battle is
re-enacted and is a great spectacle to witness.
The golden beaches of Bude are just a short distance away and
are certainly worth a visit, whether you are a keen surfer, wish to
spend the day with the family building sand castles, or want embark
