The beautiful coastal village of Aberffraw, on the south west of the Isle of Anglesey, is a fantastic destination for your next North Wales holiday.

It will come as no surprise that Aberffraw Beach is locally referred to as "Traeth Mawr", the Welsh translation for "long beach". Its beautiful golden sands stretch on for miles and it is the ultimate beach for walkers.

Over a thousand years ago, this small village was the capital of the Kingdom of Gwynedd. From 560 until 1170, the village of Aberffraw was the most important political centre in mediaeval Wales. The nearby Llys was the throne of the Kings of Gwynedd, until it was dismantled to provide materials for the nearby Beaumaris Castle. Today, much of the area's history can be discovered at the Coastal Heritage Centre at Llys Llywelyn. If you head east to Llangadwaladr, you will find the church of Llangwyfan. This church was built on the ancient site of the burial ground of the Kings of Gwynedd.
