    “Wonderful Stay”

We had a wonderful stay at Row Foot. It’s a cosy (but big!) cottage in such a beautiful surrounding. We were two families with young kids and it could not have been more perfect. The hosts David and Vivien are lovely people, always happy to help with any questions or requests we had.

The property

Ravenstonedale 1 mile.

This wonderful, historic 17th century, detached stone cottage is set in the owner’s grounds, in a tranquil location surrounded by beautiful countryside on the outskirts of the attractive village of Ravenstondale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

This former farmhouse is surrounded by views to Wild Boar, Mallerstang and the Howgills yet is situated just half a mile from Ravenstonedale with its two excellent pubs and hotels selling local ales and mouth-watering food.

Dating back, it is believed, to Charles II and being one of the earliest recorded homes in the parish, you will be delighted to see the history throughout this large cottage which oozes character with wooden floors, period fireplaces, fabulous latch doors, beams, spice cupboards and quirky doors leading to the garden.

There is so much space both inside and out making this property ideal for family and friends wishing to spend time together whilst being able to enjoy and explore this scenic area.

There are two reception rooms both with woodburners, a dining kitchen and a more formal dining room.

A tuned piano adorns the main reception room for any aficionados within your group.

A garden room has doors leading to the stunning garden with patios, lawns and uninterrupted views to the countryside and beyond.

Upstairs there are generous comfortable bedrooms, all with views, while two have en-suites.

How about a soak in the fabulous claw foot bath at the end of your day’s activities?

Nature lovers and walkers will be in their element with the almost daily visits from red squirrels and Paradise Tarn is just a field away.

Pop on your boots, they even have their own room, and visit this lovely area which has breeding swans, lapwings, gulls, geese, curlews and ducks.

Aside from this the cottage sees swallows, blackbirds and blue tits nesting, hares boxing, buzzards soaring and gambolling lambs when in season.

Enjoy a morning drink in the delightful large enclosed garden while deciding on your day’s activities, and its also a perfect spot for enjoying sunsets and stargazing later in the day.

Locally, Ravenstonedale is a popular village nestling at the foot of the Howgills, boasting a 9/18 hole golf course, children’s playground, tennis court, art gallery and St Oswald’s church, with its Gilbertine Monastery ruins as well as the gastro pubs serving delicious fare.

The quaint town of Kirby Stephen is just 15 minutes away with its historic buildings, cobbled streets and the Wainwrights coast to coast walk passes through and the famous Settle to Carlisle railway can also be enjoyed from here.

With the Yorkshire Dales on your door step and the Lake District easily accessible, this cottage is a superb base for relaxing, enjoying the peace and quiet and exploring the surrounding areas.
