Just show me Dean Holiday Cottages

Within touching distance of the Lake District National Park, our Dean cottage rentals are a big hit with those who want to explore the Lakes whilst avoiding its well-trodden tourist towns.

The village of Dean in Cumbria's wild Allerdale District is a superb holiday base for several reasons - not least because of its proximity to the Lake District. Just five miles from Cockermouth - the Cumbrian town famed as birthplace of 19th century poet William Wordsworth - Dean lies at the gateway to the Lake District, with the nearest mere being Loweswater, just six miles from the village.

Rent a cottage in Dean, the gateway to the Lake District

To the west of your Dean holiday cottage, you'll find the Cumbrian seaboard, a hidden gem of a coastline boasting an array of golden beaches and ancient Roman towns built to defend the coast from Scottish Raiders. Of the beaches nearest Dean, St Bees springs to mind. Here you'll find a ribbon of sand flanked by a magnificent sloping headland - the perfect place to lay your beach towel on a balmy day.

Drive East during your Dean cottage break and get lost amid the mighty fells of the Lake District. Beyond Loweswater lies Buttermere, thought to be one of the prettiest and most peaceful meres in the District. Spend a morning hiking in the hills that surround the water before descending into Buttermere village to indulge in a hearty lunch in one of the village's welcoming country pubs - what could be better on a bracing day?

Other attractions near our Dean cottages include Wordsworth House in Cockermouth, the childhood home of William Wordsworth transformed into a fascinating visitor centre. There are plenty of natural attractions near Dean too, including Spout Force Waterfall, Whinlatter Pass and the Lake District's one and only lake, Bassenthwaite, all of which are well worth exploring on your self-catering cottage holiday in Dean.
