Chester Cathedral

Chester Cathedral is a historic gem in the city, dating back to 1093. Once a Saxon place of worship, the Benedictine monks took over the land and built the first, Norman church there.

In 1250, the cathedral was rebuilt in the Gothic style you see today. It is truly a sight to behold, with astonishing stained-glass windows and mosaic floors adorning the interior. Outside, a gorgeous garden packed with flora and plants also awaits.

The cathedral is open Monday-Saturday between 9:30am and 6pm, then 9:30am and 5pm on Sundays. The on-site café is open until 4pm every day, whilst the gift shop is open until 5pm.

When it comes to parking, the cathedral doesn’t offer any on-site, however, Frodsham St Car Park, Delamere St Car Park and Hamilton Place Car Park are nearby.

Chester Cathedral offers guided tours from expert staff on a daily basis, between 11am and 2pm. Be sure to embark on a guided tower tour, where unmatched views of Chester’s rooftops await at the top.

A wealth of Chester Cathedral events take place at the cathedral throughout the year, from poetry workshops to historic exhibitions. Why not get involved?

There’s so much to see and do at Chester Cathedral…
