Lanyon Quoit

Lanyon Quoit is possibly one of the most photographed stone monuments in Cornwall. Although, it was subject to collapse during a storm and went through re-erection in the 19th century.

It originally dates to the early Neolithic period and consisted of a large capstone with four upright stone supports similar to Chûn Quoit. Some stones became fractured and during the 1842 rebuilding; the capstone was placed on only three uprights which were shortened and squared off.

During this, it lost its height and the distinctive box-like appearance of the other quoits. Still, Lanyon Quoit continues to be a fascinating landmark with plenty of visitors.
