Porth Oer

Remember to listen carefully as you tread the sand at Porth Oer for its unique squeaking sound! This sound is due to the unusual shape of the sand grains and Porth Oer is one of only two beaches in Europe with this unique feature.

Backed by grassy headland and fields of grazing livestock, Porth Oer makes for a magnificent walking spot. Start from the National Trust car park and walk the 300-metre lane to the beach. From the beach you can join the Wales Coast Path and walk to Aberdaron where you’ll find two pubs to refuel at before returning to Porth Oer!

This beach is popular with families as well as surfers and bodyboarders, although care should be taken when swimming and paddling due to submerged rocks.

During the summer season there is a shop open next to the beach.

Dogs are not allowed on this beach between 1st April and 30th September.

A marvellous day out awaits at Porth Oer…
