Directions

  1. Start in Reeth village with the war memorial on your left and the church to the right. Continue down the road, crossing over the bridge.
  2. Turn right after 200 metres and go through the wooden gated, following the sign to Grinton. Continue with the river on your right.
  3. Upon reaching the road, bear left to cross over the road and turn right to join the footpath again. Continue straight with the river on your right.
  4. Cross over the stile before turning right to walk on the paved road. Follow the road for 1.1 miles.
  5. Pass an old Priory and Education Centre on your right, and then bear left to go over the cattle grid. Turn left through the metal gate and then immediately right, heading towards the gate in the drywall and into the woodland. Follow the ‘Nun’s Steps’ through the woodland.
  6. Carry on through the gate at the end of the woods and continue through the fields with the drywall on your right.
  7. Follow the route along the road when it becomes paved (ignore both a left and right turn).
  8. After 400 yards turn right towards the post box. Turn right again onto the road signed ‘no through road’, following the sign for ‘Coast to Coast’.
  9. Turn left after passing the Old School Building, following the sign to Marske and the Coast to Coast. Follow through the gates in the walls.
  10. Bear right to go under the overhead lines and onto the grassy path, going through another gate after 200 metres. Bear right again when you reach the bottom right corner of the field.
  11. Go through the metal gate and then turn right to join the gravel road. Turn left after 20 metres to follow the footpath sign. Head towards the stone gate on the right of the stone farm building.
  12. Pass the gate beside the farm building and turn right to join the grassy path. Continue through several gates following the signposts.
  13. Once you’ve passed cottages to your left, turn left through the gate and go over the bridge. Bear right to go over the field towards a second gates. Pass through the gate on the left gate and then bear left, crossing the field diagonally.
  14. Turn right onto the muddy road, heading towards a barn. Turn left after 50 metres to pass through a wooden gate, then bear right, going over the stile. Bear left to go diagonally across the field, following the yellow arrows as you go.
  15. Cross over the stile and continue straight, with the wall on your right. Turn right after 100 metres to go through the gate and then bear left, going over the vehicle tracks and heading diagonally across the field.
  16. Turn right to join the paved road and ignore all side roads for 900 metres.
  17. Turn left to cross the bridge, following the sign for Ravensworth, and Whashton and the Coast to Coast. Continue through Marske, ignoring the public footpath and continuing with St Edmund’s Church on your left.
  18. Bear right to follow the road towards Richmond, then turn right into the field at the wooden signpost. Ignore the gate directly on the left and bear left across the grassy track towards the gate.
  19. Once through the gate and go across the field towards a second gate.
  20. Continue straight through the centre of the field, past another couple of gates, and towards the hill ahead.
  21. Cross over the bridge and bear right across the boardwalk to go along the muddy path. Continue straight across the two sets of vehicle tracks, ascending towards the stone cairn.
  22. When you’ve passed the stone cairn on your left, turn right to join the road.
  23. At the crossroads, turn right to pass through the gate and then turn immediately left.
  24. Upon reaching the wooden signpost, continue straight, passing a fate and crossing the paved road. Pass another gate and follow the signs to Whitcliffe Wood and Richmond.
  25. Go through the gate near the water trough and continue straight on. Cross the road after 100 metres and go over the stile, continuing straight after this with the drywall on your left.
  26. Bear left to join the grassy track going uphill and go through the gate into the woodland.
  27. Continue straight along the paved road, and ignore all side roads and paths for 1.2 miles. After this, bear left when you reach the junction at the road, heading towards the min-roundabout. Turn left at the mini-roundabout to take the first exit.
  28. Continue with the cricket ground on your left and then turn right onto the one-way road near the zebra crossing. Next, turn left onto Finkle Street.
  29. Finish your walk within Richmond’s Market Square.
