The Falls of Foyers is a short walk yet allows you to see South Loch Ness! You can take in mesmerising views all along this route, and on return enjoy refreshments at one of the local cafes.

The waterfall has a 140ft drop into a gorge that winds its way through tall trees until it is greeted by the magical Loch Ness.

Note: Watch out for illusive red squirrels and be careful on the steep walk back up the steps at each of the viewpoints.

Directions

  1. From the car park, cross the road and go through the left-hand gate. Follow the path for Falls of Foyers, keeping left at a junction to reach the upper viewpoint.
  2. Continue downhill until you reach the second viewpoint.
  3. When you return to the junction, turn left and follow the path alongside the gorg, which continues downhill through woodland.
  4. The path will eventually emerge at a gate with a hotel to the right, turn left from here and head downhill until you reach the road at a T-junction.
  5. Turn left, pass the medical centre and follow the road to the right.
  6. Further along this path keep left near the power station entrance and follow the road until it crosses Lower Foyers Bridge over River Foyers.
  7. You will head towards the Riverside housing estate and on the far side turn right along a track towards the campsite entrance.
  8. Now follow the walk beside the river, which leads down to the shores of Loch Ness.
  9. Turn left along the pebbly shore, passing a series of fishing huts and just beyond the last hut keep a look out for a path that climbs the bank on the left.
  10. The path will gain more height as it continues above the loch.
  11. Keep going past the pyramidal memorial until you reach a gate, which leads to a local cemetery.
  12. From the cemetery, follow the track back towards the Riverside housing estate, go left through a gate onto the road, and then turn right onto a ‘shortcut’ path that leads you back over the bridge.
  13. From here retrace your steps back past the medical centre and hotel, and then alongside the gorge.
