This fascinating landmark sits on the fringes of Holyrood Park and the Royal Mile. Built in the 16th-century, the Palace of Holyroodhouse boasts regal interiors and artefacts showcasing Edinburgh’s royal history.

History buffs will want to get their hands on Palace of Holyroodhouse tickets! These allow you to tour the range of royal apartments, such as Mary, Queen of Scots’ chambers.

The palace contains many royal treasures, from tapestries to swords; these relics provide great insight into the royal family’s past. The palace’s thrones, commissioned by George IV, take centre stage and can be uncovered in The Throne Room.

The 12th-century ruins of Holyrood Abbey rest next door, where you can wander through its Gothic architecture and catch glimpses of the Salisbury Crags. The abbey opens out to the four-hectare greenery of the Palace Gardens, surrounded by Holyrood Park’s views.

The Queen’s Gallery, Palace of Holyroodhouse

The palace also enjoys ties to current Monarchs, with Queen Elizabeth II staying here once per year. The Queen’s Gallery is where the Queen hosts dinners and events, surrounded by artwork.
