“Coleridge is a beautiful luxury cottage in the amazing setting of the Quantock Hills.”

Simon greeted us and supplied lots of useful information that enriched our stay. The cottage is extremely well equipped with all the kitchen gadgets you need when cooking and a spacious open plan living area. The beds are extremely comfy with quality linens, towels, robes and slippers. After a energetic day of walking from your doorstep seeing the herds of deer, the hot tub was a perfect way to unwind before you light the log burner and nestle into the comfy leather sofas. Sipping the nighttime sherry and using the spray to mist your pillow will give you a great night’s sleep. You will wake in the morning to a beautiful sunrise with a view of the sea. The Hood Arms, at the bottom of the lane, is a friendly pub with an excellent Sunday lunch, but early booking is advisable. A walk in the Great Woods with lunch at The Blue Ball at Triscombe and The Foxy Bean at Adscombe are a must. Dunster medieval village and castle are worth a visit as is a trip up to Minehead. It provides everything it says on the tin and more thanks to Simon and Emma. If you want luxury and love walking this is for you even if you don’t have a dog. The hot and cold outdoor taps are ideal for washing off your wellies and water proofs too.

The property

Kilve 1 mile.

This superb, detached wood-clad cottage is in a lovely location at the top of Somerset’s majestic Quantock Hills, one mile from the village of Kilve.

A stunning, single-storey holiday home that’s ideal for couples, small families and your four-legged friends, and at 650ft above sea level, you’re able to admire the superb, panoramic coastal views before entering your little piece of luxury.

Once inside this wonderful holiday home you will instantly relax and start to enjoy all the character features, boutique country styling and mod cons, including an instant boiling hot water tap - no need to even boil the kettle!

There are exposed oak beams in the wonderful, light and airy open plan living area with a cosy woodburning stove, from where you’re able to enjoy countryside views from the floor to ceiling French windows.

There are also two en-suite bedrooms at this delightful cottage, both of which have silk wallpaper, fluffy towels and soft bed linens, they're guaranteed to give you a good night’s sleep after a day’s exploring.

However before resting your head, you need to venture outside and relax in the hot tub, where you can let the stresses of everyday life drift away.

Alternatively, read a chapter or two from a good book whilst lazing on the hammock, or if the weather is a little inclement snuggle down in one of the two deep leather sofas in front of the roaring woodburning stove.

An additional benefit to staying in this charming cottage is that there is no need to pack your or Fido's stuff into the car to go walkies as the Quantock Hills, which offer some of England's very best scenery are literally at the end of the garden and in addition a 3 quarter acre fenced woodland play area complete with agility course for doggie guests to enjoy.

There is also a shop and pub within walking distance, ideal for stocking up on provisions and socialising with the locals.

Somerset is bursting with things to see and do, including walking and admiring the scenery and wildlife on the Quantock Hills, whilst the nearest beach is just 1.5 miles away, where you may be lucky enough to find a fossil, and there’s an abundance of attractions and pretty villages, towns and cities to visit within reach.

About the location

Williton 5 miles; Bridgwater 13 miles.

The small village of Kilve is situated in the Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just five miles from the village of Williton and thirteen miles from the town of Bridgwater in Somerset. Kilve hosts a quaint pub, Post Office and shop for all your general needs, as well as the Old Chantry tea rooms, which are set in an ancient monastery. There’s plenty to see and do from the village, including a beach, just 1.5 miles away, from where you may be lucky enough to spot fossils amongst the rock formations. Your first point of call is surely to explore the Quantock Hills, known locally as ‘the hidden jewel of England’. At 9,500 acres, there’s open moorland and woodlands on offer, along with an abundance of wildlife. The town of Bridgwater is also within each reach, offering several buildings of historical interest and an excellent selection of restaurants and pubs, as well as the annual Bridgwater Illuminated Carnival in November, where the use of over 20,000 light bulbs result in a mesmerising display of colour, sound and entertainment. Also in the area are a number of other beaches at Watchet, Dunster and Minehead, historical places of interest, such as Montacute House, Dunster Castle, Barrington Court, Cleve Abbey and Glastonbury Abbey, as well as the cities of Bristol and Bath, which are well worth a visit. A lovely base for your Somerset retreat.
