Tideswell Cottages
Six miles east of Buxton, the pretty stone village of Tideswell
sits high on a limestone plateau in the Peak District National
Park. It's an ideal place for a quiet, relaxing break with
great walks from your Tideswell cottage door.
The village dates from Saxon times and you'll find lots of
interesting buildings as you wander the narrow streets. Pride of
place goes to the Church of St. John the Baptist, known locally as
the 'Cathedral of the Peak' due to its size and beauty and
featuring some fine carved tombs and intricate wood carvings. Look
out for Bagshaw Hall in Market Place, built as Oddfellows Hall,
then transformed into a dance hall, a cinema and now a lovely
private home.
