The setting is magical. For the best views, climb to the top of McCaig's Tower, perched high above the town. See the houses tumbling down the hillsides and look out across the calm waters of the bay to the islands of the Inner Hebrides.

Browse Oban's winding streets, lined with shops and all kinds of distractions. There's the Oban Distillery, the War & Peace Museum, a cinema, art gallery - even a chocolate factory showcasing a feast of delectable delights.

The colourful harbour brims with pleasure craft and fishing boats. Watch the fishermen unload their catch; then sample sensational seafood at one of the many fish restaurants in Scotland's 'Seafood Capital'.

Feeling sporty? In and around Oban is a hotspot for divers, whether you're new to the sport, or an absolute aficionado seeking serious drifts and wrecks. Sea kayaking is also popular, with a chance to encounter seals, porpoises, otters, even whales. Or choose a leisurely wildlife or sightseeing cruise across to the isles of Mull or Kerrera.
