Runswick Bay Cottages
Please find below a selection of self catering holiday
cottages to rent in Runswick Bay, Yorkshire.
For peace and tranquillity by the sea, things don't come
much better than a Runswick Bay cottage holiday.
Just six miles along the coast from Whitby, this picture-postcard
village was once a bustling fishing community but today is
primarily an idyllic retreat for holidaymakers. Nestled at the end
of a wide, sandy beach, the white painted cottages appear to tumble
down the hillside as they cling to the rugged cliffs. Down on the
seafront you'll find the last remaining thatched cottage on the
Yorkshire coast, the former coastguard's cottage.
If you like beachcombing, especially for fossils, this is the ideal
place. The rocks along the beach are millions of years old and
fossils from the lower Jurassic period are frequently washed
ashore. The beach is also a hive of activity for the local beach
and sailing club - and whether you're a hands-on sailor or just
a spectator, a great day will be had by all.
A walk along the Cleveland Way never fails to impress, hugging the
dramatic Heritage Coastline and then heading deep into the North
York Moors National Park. There are lots of things to see and do in
the area - explore the Moors by steam train, discover traditional
market towns like Pickering, visit the Captain Cook Heritage Centre
in Staithes or, if you dare, meet Dracula in Whitby! Following a
day's fun and activity, enjoy locally brewed ales, traditional
Yorkshire food and warm hospitality at the local inn then retire to
your Runswick Bay cottage for a good night's sleep.
